As I do online shopping with Tesco every 2 weeks for my huge shops, I always seem to be looking at the special offers currently on offer for ages online and came across these candles. I originally bought my favorite - Chocolate & honey but when it was delivered today they had substituted that for the relaxing zen one instead to which I didn't really mind as usually Glade do some nice smelling candles.
Due to them being on special offer I paid £2 for this otherwise it would of been £5 each (which I sometimes think is a tad overpriced for one candle, but they do smell good). When I first looked at the candle it had a cardboard packaging over it with half of the candle showing. The box claims this candle lasts for up to 30 hours although I haven't tried it for 30 hours as it's only been on for 6 hours.
I really like the little pot this comes in, It has a cream colored base on the jar with pretty swirl and flower pattern - it does look really elegant so it can look good sitting anywhere in the house, ours is currently glowing away in my bedroom.
After lighting the wick, I found it does takes a while to start smelling nice as I don't think the smell is overpowering as some fragrances can be and can get right up my nose. But this candle has a mild smell to it which I think has a delicate flowery smell.
I do like this candle as it does last and stays lit for a while without an over powering fragrance so I would recommend this, But I think I prefer the other fragrances such as honey & chocolate or the With love one as sometimes I do like a more stronger smell to it, But this candle is okay if you liked mild smells and as they are half price they're worth buying.
I rate this product 4 stars as I do like it, it lasts ages and looks pretty.
I have noticed that my local Tesco often has this brand of candles on offer so I tend to pick a couple of different fragrances up each time they're reduced.
I bought this particular fragrance - Relaxing Zen a few months ago but because I already had several candles that had already been half used and needed using up it is only recently that I have been using it. The retail price for this candle is around £5 but I got mine when Tesco had them on offer at less than half price so I only paid £2 for it which is a bargain, especially considering how nice the glass candle holder is.
Glade claim that this candle lasts for up to 30 hours and they describe the scent as been a 'contemporary mix of delicate white flowers and soft notes of watery fruits for calm, relaxing moments.' The candle comes in a really nice round candle holder which is made from glass. It is beautifully designed and looks quite expensive. I especially like that I am able to see a warm glow from the candle through the holder, which looks especially nice when the lights are off.
The candle's wick is a good size and I never struggle to light it, however I have noticed that it tends to get black bits of ash on it so these need wiping off once it has cooled down to prevent excessive amounts of smoke when I put the candle out. As the candle is quite burnt down now as I've used over half of it, the wick is quite low down so if you use a lighter you might struggle to light it but I use matches to light it.
As for the smell, it is not what I was expecting but it is still really nice. I was expecting a sharp, fresh scent but it is actually surprisingly creamy and sweet with subtle unusual floral scent to it. It doesn't smell fruity but I do like the smell and although it is stronger than I had expected it isn't overpowering and I really like the sweetness of it. The fragrance is very comforting and warming, and it reminds me of the smell of cookies baking but then there's the relaxing, slightly fresh smell of the floral notes. The description of the scent that glade provide is not very accurate in my opinion!
All in all this is a nice candle with a lovely fragrance and a good quality holder. The only disadvantage is that the smell doesn't linger for very long once the candle has been put out and quite a lot of smoke is produced when I blow it out, but despite this I still give it five out of five stars. Recommended.
I love to keep my home smelling fresh and often use scented candles, I've tried several of the Glade range and have been pleased with them however I do think at £4.00 each they are a bit over priced. I usually wait until they are on offer then I buy several. I actually received this one, Relaxing Zen, as part of a birthday present along with some nice bath products.
Glade candles are sold in a cardboard box with a corner cut out, I like this design as it means you can take a real good sniff before you buy. In the case of Relaxing Zen the box is mainly white with a picture displaying pink flowers and pebbles. The box gives all the usual information and safety advice that you would expect from this type of product.
The candle is in a little round glass container which slightly tapers in at the top, its approximately 7cm's tall and 8cm's wide. The jar has a plastic wrap around it which actually makes it look like the glass is patterned, its quite effective. Relaxing Zen has a creamy coloured wrap with a pretty gold swirly pattern going all around it. The colour is very neutral so it would probably fit in with most colour schemes. The wax is also a creamy colour and comes 2/3 of the way up the container.
Glade describe Relaxing Zen as " A contempory mix of delicate white flowers and soft notes of watery fruits for calm relaxing moments"
Once lit the wax soon melts and the fragrance is released, Relaxing Zen has a lovely floral fragrance, its quite sweet too. I personally cannot detect any watery fruits in it at all but this doesn't matter to me as floral fragrances are my favourite.
I usually light my Glade candle for a couple of hours at a time, Relaxing Zen has a delicate smell which is very detectable but certainly not overpowering. The smell does travel around the room well but unlike some other candles the fragrance doesn't filter up stairs and all around the house. I'm finding the wax is burning down evenly so none is being wasted. Glade state this will give you up to 30 hours burning time, I haven't used all the wax yet but on the whole I would say this is slightly optimistic.
Glade candles including Relaxing Zen are available from most of the major supermarkets where they are priced at £4.00, however Asda are currently selling this for £3.00.
I would certainly recommend Relaxing Zen, and would agree it is a delicate relaxing fragrance, its very flowery and sweet and makes a nice background scent. If you like scented candles and floral fragrances then this one may well be for you.
Living in a rented accomodation means that you are stuck with what is there for many things and unfortunately for my wife and I that means that we are stuck with a bath rather than a shower. When I have a bath I occasionally like to have a nice relax and part of this is to have a nice candle to create a calming atmosphere and after purchasing a few Yankee Candles and finding my wife to be allergic to them I decided to give the Glade relaxing zen candle a try in the hope this would relax me and not cause my wife to continually sneeze but did it deliver on either front?
The Glade range of candles are all beautifully designed and come in their own glass casing so that once lit you can feel safe that these are not going to burn wax or oils on to anywhere they shouldn't. The reason I picked these over other candles was due to the glass surround as for someone wishing to use this whilst in the bath it provides piece of mind and a bit more safety than simply having a candle sitting on its own.
The fragrance from the Glade relaxing zen candle is very fresh and does calm your mind a little but for me it is a very subtle fragrance when compared to other candles out there (this maybe due to the fact it is meant to be a relaxing candle). The fragrance is a described as a mixture of soft notes of watery fruits and delicate white flowers to create a calm and relaxing fragrance which for me it does fairly well.
The candles will last for up to 30 hours and when you consider that they only cost around £2 each then this is a very impressive price for a candle that comes with its own glass surround.
The glass surround is very nice and something I do really like but when you are trying to relight the candle after a few hours of usage then I have found it can be quite difficult to get to the wick without having to hold the cadle completely upside down.
For me the fragrance just needs to have a little more strength to it as it feels like it is more of a very light scent which whilst nice does not make for the best candle if you have a larger room.
Overall this is a very nice looking candle that does have a nice and light fragrance which you will get a great deal of use out of but for me this is not a strong enough fragrance to fill a room and so this somewhat lets it down. The fact my wife did not have any allergic reaction to this candle is great but I am unsure if this is linked to the fragrance being so light or not. For me this is an ok candle that works to a fair level if in a small room like a bathroom but anything bigger and I feel the fragrance is too weak to register to any real degree.
I recently bought a couple of Candles from my local Home Bargains shop as I like scented Candles and they were a good price in here. I picked up this one for a bargain £1.49 and although this brand can cost anything up to £3 and I wouldn't pay that for a candle like this but £1.49 was just a right price I would say for such a thing.
The candle looks like the picture. So you see the body of the Candle sticking out of the cardboard sleeve so you can see the size of this easily enough. The candle is in a glass round bit and is isn't too wide or tall. There is a decoration around the glass bit and I guess the colouring of the Cream and the gold swirls on here look quite subdued and not all that bright, so perhaps in keeping with the Zen theme.
You can smell the scent of this Candle in the shop before you buy it just by moving a bit of the cardboard and although this wasn't that strong a scent it was nice.
When you burn the Candle you get just the nice gentle scent from this. I find it hard to say what this smells like, but it seems to just have a crisp, clean scent to it. I think it smells a bit creamy as well, and there seems to be a dash of perhaps Lilly through this as well. There also seems to be a slight touch of a richer kind of scent perhaps Sandalwood, but I can't realyl be sure of all the scents in here. It's all nice and goes together nice.
This Candle lasts a good enough lenght of time as well. I tend to light the Candle and leave it on for hours. I believe that this will burn for approx 30 hours and i've never counted it, but I don't perhaps feel it lasts all that long. I may be wrong through.
A nice light subtle scent from a good range of scented Candles.
I love candles and have tons of holders scattered around my house so I can create the perfect romantic or haunting lighting effects. I particularly like fragranced candles as they create a lovely atmosphere, especially during the evenings when you want to feel all cosy. I saw this range of Glade scented candles advertised over Christmas time and have been trying out all the different scent varieties ever since. This Relaxing Zen scented candle is available from many high street retailers and I bought mine from Wilkinsons for £1.47, which is a good saving at just half the RRP.
Product description: "A contemporary mix of delicate white flowers and soft notes of watery fruits for calm, relaxing moments."
The item comes packaged in a decorative cardboard sleeve, and the different candles seem to each have their own colour packaging so you can easily tell the different scents apart from one another. This one is clearly decorated with nice "spa" type images of stacked pebbles and flowers. It's a bit vague if you're trying to guess what the candle will smell like, but it is nice to look at. These candles come in their own rounded glass holders, which have a printed image on the outside. This one has a pretty scrolling floral design in a neutral colour, which allows it to fit in with most other colkours and decorations that you might have in your home. The candle itself is made of a bright lime green coloured wax.
I have really enjoyed using other candles from this range, and in terms of quality I already know what to expect, although as for the actual scent I still felt a little in the dark as there was not a great deal of information based on the information on the box, or clues from the presentation. As the candle was burning it quickly released a lovely fragrance that spread around the room. I would say that the scent is mainly floral, but has a fresh clean edge to it that is perfect for Sping, and perfumes a room without leaving the air overloaded. The best comparison I could make is that it smells sort of like bamboo! This is something that I could see appealing to most people, as it is a wonderful fragrance that is neither too masculine nor too feminine. My boyfriend particularly likes this candle, although I normally prefer the sweeter ones this is a nice change and is perfect for a lighter fragrance that lifts the atmosphere and makes the area smell clean and clear.
These candles are well filled, weighing in at 120g, and claim to give at least 30 hours of burning time. I must say that this has lived up to my expectations, if not surpassed them. You really do get a lot of use from them and the candle burns down slowly but effectively. It is very effective at boosting the mood and freshening up your rooms. Because the candles releases its fragrance so quickly I used to make the mistake of only leaving it burning for an hour or two at a time, but I now know that this is why the wax was melting down unevenly and leaving unmelted sections around the edges. I now leave the candle burning for at least three hours at a time to ensure that it burns down more venly. Instead of overloading one room with fragrance for the full 3+ hours, I tend to (carefully!) move the candle around from room to room, so that I can enjoy the fragrance in my dining room, living room, hallway and bedroom.
After the candle has completely burned out you are left with a pretty holder which can then be re-used. I had a few tiny bits of wax left in the bottom of the holder that I managed to chip out and am saving up with other leftovers so that I can make my own recycled candles when I have enough wax. You could also just pop a tea light in the bottom of the holder to use it again, or clean it out & remove the outer label and then send it for recycling.
I would definitely buy Glade scented candles again as they are great value for money, produce a wonderful effect and look lovely too. This particular fragrance is very pleasant and I am looking forward to trying the others that I have in this range.
Scented candles are what I usually buy when I see one that I may think smells nice or one that has been recommended to me by my family or friends. This range of candles was recommended to me and so I thought I would buy this one when I spotted it on the shelf while out shopping.
This candle is inside a glass jar, it comes in a cardboard box. The jar looks nice looking, it is a cream colour with a pattern, the jar is not flimsy and the base is a good one to place it around the home. Inside the jar, the candle is a cream colour. The wick is a good size to light with a match etc. the smell of the candle is really nice, I think it is a floral fragrance, it is a pleasant smell and quite strong.
The candle is supposed to last for up to 30 hours burning time in total. I have been using this one for a couple of hours at night time for around a week or so and there is still half the wax left in the jar, so I would say it probably would last for the hours it states on the box. It releases a lovely scent into the air, this scent is quite strong, I thought it would not be as strong and that it may be a little weak but I was wrong. This one is really good, I placed it in my lounge and I could definitely smell it in the air and was pleased I had bought it.
It cost just £3.30, I think for this price it is excellent. This is very good value for the money. I like candles even if they are not the scented ones and so when I saw this one with a scent I was happy to try it and I am pleased I did. The fragrance in the air makes it a lovely smell when returning to my room. I can smell it straightaway on my return.
I have been happy with this candle, I like the smell it releases in the air for my home, I think it helps remove the cooking smells too, I often cook at night time as I snack a lot and often eat something like sausages etc or I have heated up some left over food from dinner and this candle has definitely disguised the smell as much as a smell could be disguised. The candle must not be left burning if you leave the home for safety reasons of which we all know we have to do with candles.
I recommend this candle to anyone who loves candles. It is one that I will buy again and it is available in most supermarkets and well worth a try.
I rate it 5 stars.
I bought a few of this brand of candles a while ago when I saw them on special offer, they were only £1.50 at the time and so half the usual price. I just love candles as I think they smell gorgeous around the home. I find if you have pets like myself, they just help the rooms smell a little better and remove some of the pet odours that all pets leave in every home.
It comes in a nice attractive beige colour jar with a nice design and the candle inside is a nice cream colour of which is a very good quality. The texture of the candle wax is very smooth and the wick is a good size for the candle. It is very easy to light with a match or a lighter whichever is your preference, I light it with a match as I do not have a lighter.
It has a really nice fragrance of which in my opinion smells of flowers and the smell really does circulate around the room, I can smell the fragrance when I leave a room that it is placed in and return. If I close a door and return again the smell is far stronger and just how I like it to smell. Once the candle is lit it can last up to 30 hours and I just think this is a good amount of time and I would say it really does come close to this time in my opinion.
The candle burns slowly to release the fragrance just perfectly and I really do love this brand of candles because I really love the glass jars as I just think they are quite attractive and look lovely wherever they are placed around the home. I like the colour of this one as it is a neutral colour and so suits any colour scheme in a room if a coloured candle is one that you like to use to in a room with a certain colour scheme. The jar does not burn any surfaces and is safe but obviously should not be left alight or unattended when you are not in the home for obvious reasons and safety.
This candle is usually priced at around £3.50 and worth the money in my opinion and I just love all the fragrances in this brand and they are ones that I buy on a regular basis and ones that I know have very good results for my home.
It does make my rooms smell much fresher along side the air fresheners that I use and the candle gives that little extra fragrance for a longer lasting time. I think it is a super quality and worth the price even at the usual price.
This candle does give me all that I expect from a candle and the amount of fragrance and I really do think that it is an affordable one for any budget and it is certainly not a waste of money by no means. I like to place it in my bedroom as I like to light it about an hour before I go to bed at night and when I get into bed it does make me feel nice and relaxed. My bedroom smells gorgeous and pleasant just how I like it to smell to help me sleep much better.
It is available from most supermarkets and often on special offer of up to half the usual price and so I think it is best to buy them while on offer and stock up as I do because I really do not think you would be disappointed with this one or the length of time it lasts and it really does last the amount it says as usually some candles don't but with this one it certainly does last the amount of time it states on the box.
It also comes inside a nice sturdy box to protect the glass jar so that it does not break and I have never had a jar break when I have arrived home as it is securely packed very well indeed.
I highly recommend this candle to anyone who is looking for a good decent, long lasting candle for their home and I will certainly keep buying this one as it really does give me the results I expect from a candle.
I give it 5 stars.
Also on Ciao under my username Pinky50.
Thank you for reading my review.
As far as my husband is concerned, Christmas is now officially over, so has been taking great delight in telling me so and how we soon have to take down the decorations, yes he is a scrooge McDuck!
One of the things that I decided to get this year, more as a treat for myself and also due to the fact we tend to smoke more at Christmas (not in the house of course, but by the back door and the smell does tend to come back in again!), is festive candles, this was the year I discovered Glade!
Now my husband has decided even these should be packed away, though luckily they have near enough been used, so by the "12th day" rule we follow in my house these candles will be gone.
To replace these candles and due to the fact they are still being sold for £1.50 in my local Asda (½ price before the sales even began!), I purchased a couple more, non festive one's to please my husband....worse than kids aren't they!
The candle in question is the "relaxing zen" one in the range, which not only smelt delicious, but was a beautiful colour with a lovely looking glass pot too.
The pot itself is a pale gold colour, with the lime green candle visible through the cut out sections of the glass, giving the pot a luminescent glow to it, even before it is lit.
The cut out sections in the pattern are a pretty flower and vine design, which continues around the entire pot, with an almost italic look to it.
The scent of the candle is described on the "blurb" as a "contemporary mix of delicate white flowers and soft notes of watery fruits for calm and relaxing moments".
What I get (when sniffed before lighting)is a very faint floral scent but mostly overridden by a fresh and distinctive melon scent, very pleasant but not quite as "zen" as I was expecting!
Once lit, and I do find there is no discernable scent for at good few minutes, or at least until the wick has started meting the wax itself, I again found this to be a really subtle candle, and not perhaps the strong scent I was hoping for, but more the sort of thing that could be used in a bathroom, to add an air of ambience, especially if you have to sit quite close to it, this is unlikely to give you a bad head like some of the stronger scents could do.
The scent is a very fresh smell more than a particular scent, though I couldn't detect any of the afore mentioned floral aspect, I could smell what the manufacturers describe as the "watery fruits" scent, though strangely enough not quite as distinctly melon scented anymore.
It does look beautiful though, whether lit to add atmosphere or unlit it looks equally delightful amongst my ornaments and picture frames on my fireplace.
This candle, along with the others in this range have a burning time of around 30 hours, though does at times need the wick trimming or breaking of to prevent unnecessary smoking when lit.
Whatever else this maybe it is formost a naked flame, so all the normal safety precautions should be taken, though this is in a heat prove bowl, care should be taken as to were it is stood, mine is always placed on a marble hearth, but on a varnished wooden surface may cause the wood or veneer to blister with the heat.
As I mentioned earlier these are currently available for £1.50 each from www.asda.com, which is fantastic value and should be snapped up if you get the opportunity.

Glade relaxing Zen
I do like candles and especially round Christmas/winter time.
A lot of the Glade candles are on half price offer at Sainsburys right now so it seems a great time to buy them.
PRODUCT AND PACKAGING...
This candle is sold in a cardboard sleeve, with all the information on the back of the sleeve. When I take out the candle, the candle jar is coloured in a cream colour with swirls and flowers almost etched on in decoration. The candle itself is a very pale green colour, nothing spectacular. It always seems a shame afterwards to let the jar go to waste so I always get these types of jars refilled.
The instructions tell me to trim the wick to 5mm but I hadn't read the instructions before lighting it, and it didn't have any adverse effects by not trimming the wick. When I light the candle it lets off a nice glow through the painted glass, although it does take some time for the smell to be discernible. The information on the candle sleeve tells me that this is a contemporary mix of delicate white flowers and soft notes of watery fruits for a calm relaxing moment. For the aroma to really fill the room, it's best to burn the candle for 2-4 hours, as suggested in the instructions.
There are certain warnings such as keep the candle away from children, don't move while the candle is lit, and warns that this is for indoor use only.
The candle is made by SC Johnson, and there is lots of information on the website, www.glade.com. It seems there is a candle for almost every occasion. This cost me £1.50 from Sainsbury but the RRP is £3.
I do as suggested and tend to burn the candle for about three hours at a time and definitely for no longer than 4 hours. It has already lasted 5 days of this type of burning and there is I believe a few days left.
The candle lights easily and unlike some candles does burn right to the bottom of the jar. I hate it when there is a lot of the wax wasted around the edges or when the wick disappears and has to be gauged out of the wax to light. It lets off a very subtle scent and is one which could be burnt all year long. Not sure if I feel relaxed but the smell is nice although not as strong as some of the other candles I have burnt. The smell is pleasant enough but unlike some of the other Glade candles, not really strong enough to eliminate odours. In fact, I have to get quite close to the candle to be able to smell it.
Nice enough but for a candle with real scent try another.
Thanks for reading.
Where to buy...
This is avialable at Tesco, Coop, Waitrose, Asda, Morrisons.
Also at Ocado online.
RRP is £3. These have been BOGOF at Tesco for ages and are currently (November 2010) available at half pirce (£1.50 ) at Tesco, Coop and Asda - at least - ideal!
For £1.50 i have bought a stockpile (well, 6!). They're available in Honey & Chocolate, although i find this a bit sweet for a candle, With Love (which i have also reviewed) and several festive varieties.
Says it lasts 30 hours at least - and does.
This is a solid, green candle inside a glass jar with a plastic coat. The green is a little weird looking, kind of a snot colour - but please don't let that put you off! Once you light it, you can barely notice the colour, so it is fine :o)
The plastic coat makes it appear as if the glass jar is painted, but it is a plastic sheet with a pattern on it which is removable. I really like the pattern on this one, it is white at the bottom, which melds into a very pale gold at the top. That is the background to swirly pale gold flowers. I have a chocolate and beige style living room, and these look perfect.
The picture attached doesn't do it justice.
The packaging is randomly really negative. My nan would say 'health and safety gone mad'! Tells you every danger imaginable (allergy, harm to fish, be careful with kids, make sure you clean and don't use candles as an alternative...etc.).
I like flowery smells. I have Lillies in my kitchen because of their scent, pollen be damned! I like rose hand and face wash. I hate Lavendar, with a passion. The scent of this one is quite fresh, very subtle. The With Love candle is much sweeter and more obvious. This one is definately less obvious, it is kind of 'a trip to the woods' - does that make sense? Smells of fresh rainwaterand the outdoors. Very difficult to describe smells here.
At £1.50 this is excellent. I have one either side of my woodburner - ideal. Looks nice and smells nice. When i'm done, i take them upstairs and add tea lights - works well.
There are several Glade Candle options - i've now tried the Relaxing Zen, With Love & Honey & Chocolate. The other two are much more fragranced and both equally lovely, bu i think this is my favourite for looks and smell.
The Glade US website has these on it. The UK website is SCJohnson and oddly doesnt feature these products despite listing SCJohnson on the packaging.
For £1.50, these are worth every penny.
