Glitzy and blingy dustpan and brush.
This is a nice little bit of glam for your kitchen, at a super price. No kitchen can be without the trusted old dustpan and brush, having animals and kids it seems my life's work is following around sweeping up messes...lol! I purchased mine from pound land (this shop is ideal for all the little nick knacks for a kitchen) and to be honest wasn't expecting amazing things, at the end of the day it's a simple cheap dustpan and brush, the pan itself is made of black plastic and has a bright cerise pink rubber edge on the pan which helps to prevent dust sliding under the pan which it did help a little but did allow some bits through. The pan has no glitz on it but is quite striking with the contrast of the black and the very bright pink. The brush again is black but has a decoration of pink gems(obviously fake!!!) lol.
The item is quite cheaply made and the pan seems a little thin and flexible and the brush is although hard not brilliant it does take a few brushes to collect all of the dust but I am very pleased with it. Ideally the brush could be bigger with longer bristles but does fine, the whole item is quite compact at about 30cmx23cm8cm which makes storage a little easier and the brush clips into the pan and both have a hole on the end of the handle for hanging up. I have used mine on all sorts of surface from carpet to lino and even the garden and always found it to be sufficient, however it does struggle a little with cut grass but I found all cheap ones have the same problem and have since purchased and wooden and metal one for the garden but taking all things into consideration this has been a great buy. It does what it needs to do and at an exceptional price with a little bit of glam into the bargain, what more can you ask for??
My niece loves to play with it when she comes round and spends ages dust panning my garden...lol! I was considering buying her a toy cleaning set for her birthday but may have to include her own little blinggy set.
Overall I'm happy with my little bargain and would recommend the item to anyone needing a new dustpan and brush but would caution you against buying one for the purpose of gardening where it failed a little on performance.
I'd had my eye on this Glitzy dust pan and brush set from Poundland for ages. I kept picking it up and putting it back, I know it's only a pound but I didn't need one as I had one. Mine got stepped on (again) so I had an excuse to get a glam model.
My dustpan and brush is black plastic with a pink rubber strip on front of the pan and a glitzy 'diamante' sticker on the top of the brush.
It's seems small- 12 inches long, 9 wide and 3 inches deep at the back- and flimsy, you can bend it around....had I took more notice I may not have bought it.....
The pan has a hanging up hole but it doesn't line up with the hole in the handle. The brush handle slots into the pan but doesn't click in properly, so most of the time it falls out. The brush itself is small compared to other brushes, this part being 5 inches long and 1!/2 inches wide. Nevertheless there are plenty of bristles, nylon I think.
There's a pink rubber strip on the front of the pan which does help with brushing up, it's not that snug to the floor so I need to do a few sweeps over the area- every set I've had is like that though. The pan has teeth on one side to clean the brush with, which it does.
Reading my description you'd think I didn't like the brush but I do. It's small size doesn't hold a great deal of dirt, however the brush gets into nooks and crannies. Being flimsy doesn't impair it's ability, it doesn't bend enough under the weight to deposit the dirt back on the floor. The bristles are still in good shape, they haven't splayed out everywhere.
I've had it a while and used it loads, it's still in one piece (touch wood), the pink rubber strip hasn't come undone and even the sticker has stayed on. I can't really complain about it's flimsy quality especially for a pound and it does do the job.
In view of the cost 5 stars from me!
I'm reviewing my little glitzy dustpan and brush.
It cost me £1 in our local select shop just before it closed earlier this year (2013).
It was available in black/pink or purple/pink, or pink/pink. Mine is the pink/pink one.
=WHY I BOUGHT THIS=
For the sparkling little brush and pinkness. Seriously, that was the reason.
When my dustpan and brush that I use indoors gets raggedy looking and loses efficiency due to bristle loss etc I relegate it to the garden shed for use outdoors and storing among the gardening stuff. Then I buy a nice new set. But if tidying up on the patio front or back my husband just grabs the household dustpan and brush, no matter how mucky the mess is that he is clearing up outside. He rarely uses the outdoor set .So the indoor dustpan and brush end up filthy and with bristles askew . He has ruined countless sets doing that , so when I saw this one in Select I thought "BINGO!". Perfect for the home and hubby wouldn't be seen dead using a pink handbrush covered in sparkling diamante outside the house.
This is a neat little set, made from plastic and with the necessary rubber strip along the front edge of the dustpan.
The brush has black bristles and plenty of them ,and the top of the brush is covered in pretend jewels in pink and mauve/lilac.
The handle is not the sturdiest, but is perfectly fine for light household things.
The brush and dustpan click together in the handle area which is always useful ,and both items have a hole in their handles which means you can pop the set onto a nail in a cupboard for storing it.
=USAGE and MY OPINION=
This can be used anywhere you need to use a dustpan and brush, even in the garden if that is your choice ,but bear in mind it is not heavy duty gear. With having a cat AND a dog there is a certain amount of hair shedding that happens and I usually prefer to use the dustpan and brush on small areas rather than drag the hoover out .
When I air the pet blankets on the washing line I like to swipe the bling brush across them a few times to dislodge hair .
The bristles seem to retain the pet hairs and fluff (like most of these brushes do) ,but they simply pull away easily for disposal and swishing your hand over the bristles a few times clears any stray hairs or fluff.
The dustpan is OK, but a bit on the flimsy side . This is NOT a heavy duty set at all . The plastic is all right for light jobs around the home but I've been very aware of it's flimsiness when using for slightly heavier jobs, like when my oven grill door exploded showering glass all over the kitchen (I'd left it on to heat dinner plates and forgot about it. Plate exploded and shattered the glass door. OOPS! ) Anyway, the glass shattered into tiny beads and when brushing them up I found I could only half (or less) fill the dustpan because the plastic started to wobble under the weight of the glass beads if I loaded it too much. The sides are not exceptionally high anyway . It is no big deal, just means being careful not to overload the dustpan .
The rubber edging serves it's purpose as much as these things do. I have NEVER found one of these that totally dams the dirt from skiting (local terminology) under it . There is always some dirt escapes meaning backing up and rebrushing a few times. Again, no big deal and par for the course with these sets.
Storing is easy because it is small enough to fit under the sink wedged in beside cleaning products, but personally I hang mine in the cupboard where we keep our tools and other bits and pieces . For hanging it up you will need a good long screw (ooo-er missus!) or nail , because even though the pan and brush click together neatly they still need a clearance of about one and a half inches to hang securely without being constantly knocked off . Another tip is to angle the screw or nail so that the point is just a tiny bit lower than the head.....that way the set is more securely held in place by gravity. Don't even think of using a cup hook because no way will it hold this set.
I'm pleased with this set in that it serves MY needs, but it most definitely isn't top of the range or particularly sturdy.
However in my opinion for light use around the home it fits the bill .
Yes ,it is DEFINITELY girly, no doubt about that , but that was the big plus point for me.
Would I recommend it ? Yes, as long as you are aware of it's limitations.
The price is right and it is good value for £1 .
I think 3 stars fair enough for what is really partially a novelty item.
Thank you for reading ~~~myloh.
I needed to buy a new dustpan and brush as my previous one (which was nearly as old as me) had snapped. I use a dustpan and brush daily in my kitchen as I've got two dogs and 1 of them is very hairy and leaves clumps of black hair everywhere he goes and as they sleep in the kitchen they are in there quite often. I only wanted a cheap one and didn't expect anything fancy as I store it under the stairs anyway so no one see's it and its only to clean up dog hair so didn't want to spend much money on one.
I was in my local pound shop when I spotted the dustpans, they had some plain ones which I would of been happy with but then I spotted this lovely black one which had a bright pink rubber edge and a pink and purple jewel design on the brush handle. I had to buy it, after all it was still the same price as the plain ones anyway and an absolute bargain for only £1.
The feature which I really like about this item is that the brush handle clips into the dustpan handle which really comes in handy. Like I said I store it under the stairs, I didn't tell you that I store everything under the stairs so a lot of things tend to get thrown in never to be seen again and I could always find the brush but not the dustpan. Sadly the two items don't seem to clip together anymore and keep coming apart. I would prefer it if the whole thing was bright pink though rather than black as it would make it easier to find as there's no light under the stairs. The whole thing is good size, small enough so doesn't take up much room but still big enough to hold everything so you don't have to make extra trips to the bin. There's a hole in each handle which I think would be really useful if you could put a small nail up under the stairs then you could hang them up together.
The brush gathers everything off the floor together easily and there are a lot of bristles on the brush so no gaps for anything to go through. Of course the dog hairs get stuck in the bristles but you can easily pull it off and drop in the dustpan. As I said the dustpan can hold quite a lot and the sides are tall enough that things don't spill over the top. My kitchen door leads to the back garden so it means I get a lot of muddy paw prints on the lino, the mud is swept up easily with the brush and can be swept quite easily into the dustpan but can leave a slight line of mud on the floor where it gets stuck against the rubber but the majority of the mud goes in the dustpan and I do think that no matter how much you spend on a dustpan you'll always have that slight line of mud left on the floor.
Overall I am really impressed with my £1 bargain and love the girly design which will brighten up your kitchen if you have nowhere to store it. Its a shame that my brush won't clip into the dustpan properly anymore but I can't complain after it was such a bargain and I know someone else who has this and theirs clips in fine still so I think I just got a faulty one.
As far as I'm concerned a dustpan and brush are a kitchen essential, especially as our glass doors lead straight into the kitchen from the garden. I like to keep my dustpan and brush just for the kitchen and keep another in the garage for outside, the patio, garage etc. Recently I discovered my husband using my kitchen dustpan and brush outside, I wasn't pleased and planned on buying a new one next time I shopped.
I bought my Glamour Dustpan and Brush from my local pound store for the obvious sum of one pound, I must admit I had planned on buying a slightly better one that would cost more but I was drawn to the pink "jewels" that decorated the handle.
The dustpan and brush are made from black plastic and the dustpan has a pink rubber strip along the front edge, the brush measures 28cm's including the handle which is quite comfortable to hold although it does feel slightly thin, this isn't really a problem for me and generally the brush is comfortable to use. As I mentioned the handle is decorated with little imitation pink gems which is what caught my eye in the first place. The bristles are made from black nylon and are quite soft making it an ideal brush to use indoors. The
The pan measures approximately 20 x 18cm'x and is approximately 5cm's deep.
Both the dustpan and brush have a little hanging loop on them and can be hung separately or together if you choose.
All in all I've been pleasantly surprised with this dustpan and brush, for the measly sum of one pound its pretty good quality, the bristles gather up any dirt easily and the rubber strip ensures that the dirt actually goes into the pan rather than pushed underneath like some dustpans I've used in the past, the dustpan is deep enough to hold a reasonable amount of dust and fluff too without it blowing over the edge as you move around.
The pink jewels on the handle don't actually serve any purpose but I like them they make me smile, my local pound store also had these with blue jewels if pink isn't your thing.
If you are looking for a new dustpan and brush and don't have a pound store in your area these can be bought online from
http://www.kitsch.co.uk/acatalog/Funny_Christmas_Presents.html although here they cost £4.95 plus p&p.
