Advantages: Leaves your jewellery looking spotless
Disadvantages: Easy to spill... Nothing else
*Introduction*
H Samuel Gold Jewellery Cleaner was the second item that I bought with my £10 gift voucher that I had for the store. Because of the experience I have due to working for H Samuel a few years ago, I knew that the jewellery cloth would not clean the ins and outs of my jewellery. This is why I bought the dip as well so that between them, my jewellery would be thoroughly cleaned and sparkle to perfection.
*The Claim*
H Samuel Gold Jewellery Cleaner is a more intense cleaner formulated for heavily tarnished items (gold, precious stones, diamonds and platinum).
*Directions of Use*
To clean your jewellery using this cleaner you should take the following instructions:
1) Put the item of jewellery in the basket allocated in the pot and dip it into the jewellery cleaner. You should leave this in the solution for approximately 1 - 2 minutes.
2) When you lift up the basket to take your jewellery, use the soft brush that you get in the pot to remove any embedded dirt.
3) Next you should rinse the jewellery thoroughly under clean, warm running water. Shake off any excess water and dry the item dry with a cloth or piece of tissue. Ensure that you wash off the cleaner properly because if you don't I know from experience that it will make your jewellery look even worse than when it was just a little dirty.
You should do this fairly regularly to keep your jewellery clean. If you follow these directions, your jewellery and gems will look at good as new. I use the Dual Action Jewellery Polishing Cloth in conjunction with this dip in order to get optimum results.
*Price and Availability*
You can buy H Samuel Gold Jewellery Cleaner exclusively from H Samuel. Like the cloth, exactly the same dip is sold in Ernest Jones but in different packaging. This is the same product. If you don't have a H Samuel store that is local to you then you can purchase the dip online at www.hsamuel.co.uk and it will arrive the following day with no additional delivery charge.
This jewellery cleaner retails at £3.99. This may sound a little expensive but I consider it to be a very reasonable price. This is because it lasts an extremely long time and is very effective in making your jewellery sparkle again.
*My Opinion*
The packaging: H Samuel Gold Jewellery Cleaner is a white, hard plastic pot with a burgundy sticker that goes around the centre with the name of the product and brief instructions on how to use the cleaner. You access the actual liquid via a screw lid. This lid can be rather stiff to open, even when it is new. When you initially open this jewellery cleaner, it is sealed therefore you have to take this off before you can use it.
Inside this tub, you will find a white plastic basket which you place your jewellery on to clean it. This basket has a long piece of plastic in the middle which comes up to the pretty much the top of the lid. This allows you to pull the basket up and collect your jewellery after it has been cleaned without putting the whole of your hand into the product.
Inside this jewellery cleaner pot, you also get a small brush which allows you to scrub you're the nooks and crannies of your jewellery that the product wouldn't necessarily get at clean.
For the first few times that you open and close this tub, you need to be extremely careful as the liquid often froths up and spills over the side. This can sometimes lead to spillages and waste of the cleaner but after you have used the cleaner a few times, the liquid is reduced slightly and this will no longer happen.
Colour, texture and smell: This liquid is a blue colour which is translucent. Do not worry about the colour transferring onto you jewellery as it doesn't. The texture of this jewellery cleaner is normal liquid although when you use the brush to clean your jewellery more thoroughly, it froths up and bubbles. It also does this if the tub is shaken before you open it leading to overspill so be aware of this.
As for the scent, it smells fairly strongly of cleaning products. As long as you rinse the cleaner off thoroughly after use, the smell of this liquid is removed entirely.
Longevity of the product: This tub of gold jewellery cleaner is extremely enduring. I would go as far as to say that once you have bought a pot you will never have to buy another again. Unless you are a bit clumsy like I am and knock it over, spilling the liquid everywhere. I find it to be superb value for money when you think about the fact that this will do you forever (possibly).
BEWARE! Before you think that this jewellery cleaner is suitable for everything read this. There are a number of stones that are not suitable to use with this jewellery cleaner. These include emeralds, opals, corals, pearls and paste stones. You should also not use this to clean costume jewellery. And believe me this caution is not unwarranted. I had made the mistake of not reading this when I worked for H Samuel and went on to clean an entire tray of opal rings. Oops indeed. Every one of these items were sent back to the Head Office as they were all ruined. The only positive thing was that I didn't make this mistake on an item of my own.
*Would I Recommend This Product?*
I unquestionably recommend this jewellery cleaner dip. It works fantastically to remove dirt and grime from your jewellery to give it back its sparkling shine. Regardless of whether it is a ring that needs cleaning up or a necklace that has lost a bit of its sparkle, this jewellery cleaner will work effectively to get that gold glistening again.
*Overall*
H Samuel Gold Jewellery Cleaner is a great product to clean your jewellery. Whether it is a ring or bracelet, earrings or pendant, this product is perfect for you. If you use this dip, your gold jewellery will sparkle beautifully. And it lasts for an eternity which is an additional bonus.
If you somebody who wears silver, there is also an alternative version that is available to buy. This is just as good the gold version and will take away the appearance of tarnished jewellery.
Summary: Great to use with the cloth
