Advantages: kills all germs, liquid covers the bowl and clings to the rim

Disadvantages: bit expensive

Being a self employed cleaner, i clean my fair share of toilets, and as i ask the people whos houses i clean to provide the cleaning products and equipment i have therefore come across this harpic toilet cleaner on quite a few occasions. Thankfully most the toilets i come across are generally quite clean, well clean as in they don't have too bad a limescale problem, but toilets being toilets you can bet your bottom dollar that there are still loads of disgusting germs lurking which need to be killed off.

Harpic is a well known toilet cleaning brand and has been around for as long as i remember, and they always seem to have regular advertising campaigns on tele. This particular version i'm reviewing is harpic powerplus toilet cleaner. The bottle is black with a red cap on top of the regular curved neck to reach under the rim. The bottle claims to kill all germs and removes limescale. It comes in a 750ml bottle and on tesco it is priced around £1.70. The bottle has the usual list of precautions and instructions on the bottle.

When i use this i give the bottle a squirt around the rim and leave it as long as possible to allow it to get on with the business of killing the germs. I then get on with the other cleaning tasks and return to the toilet later to finish it off. The liquid is dark blue and allows a good coverage of the bowl. Unlike some other toilet cleaners i have used it also seems to hang around under the rim. The smell varies from a citrus fragrance to a standard chemical fragrance. Neither are too overpowering. After a quick sweep with the toilet brush and a flush and the toilet is left sparkling, fresh and germ free.

Overall i think this is probably one of the best toilet cleaners out there, better than say toilet duck, though saying that i generally use domestos thick bleach on my toilet at home only for the clinical disinfecting reassurance and for that it only costs around a pound. But saying that since harpic contains disinfectant you can be sure that it kills the germs as well as domestos may do, in fact harpic claim that since it removes limescale that bleaches leave behind that it in fact kills germs better than bleach, and after all that what you really need when cleaning a toilet.

Summary: clean toilet.
