      a good DIY product

      Decorating is a tough job and anything that makes life easier is a winner for me. I bought this product as it seemed a good solution for preparing surfaces to paint. The usual way would be to sand down the surface before you paint but this causes so much dust that it is takes ages to clean up and ages to do. I do not see the point of sanding down, vacuuming up and then painting as this preparation takes longer than the actual job. I bought this is a quick fix and I'm glad I did as it does the job well.

      ==Price and availability==

      The bottle comes in a litre bottle size and it costs £4.99. You use the product in small amounts so that it lasts for a really long time; you combine it with water to make a solution. You can buy it from various DIY shops such as B&Q and Homebase.

      ==Description and directions==

      The liquid smells but it does not carry that offensive ammonia smell. To use the liquid, I pour around 100ml into a bucket and then one litre of water. You can make up as much as you want it just depends on the area you are you are working on. To use, soak a cloth in the liquid and then rub it onto the surface you want to prepare. I wear rubber gloves when doing this as I do not want to damage my nails or skin. The liquid rubs on and you will notice that the cloth will start to take the paint away a little bit, my cloth went white and the paint work looked less shiny. Once this stage has been achieved, you should let it dry and then you are ready to paint. Once it dries you do not need to wipe it with a damp a cloth or anything and I just apply the paint straight on to the surface.

      ==My experiences==

      This is not a paint striper, it just prepares the surface for painting by stripping off the grease and dirt and leaving a good prepped surface for painting. It is so quick and easy to use and so much more successful than sanding and also makes much less mess. The liquid is lasting a long time and I have some left which I store in the cellar. This product can also be used as a strong cleaner to clean paintwork and take off all the grease and sticky marks. You have to make a really weak solution though or you will take the paint off. I have only done this once to clean some hair dye that "someone" splashed on the skirting board, it did start bringing some of the paint off though so I must have made it too strong.

      I would recommend this product as it is a really big help when decorating. All you need is a cloth and bucket and you can prepare surfaces in minutes rather than an hour of sanding, cleaning and vacuuming!
