Before I get stuck into writing about this product I must tell you that I am reviewing Bloo Toilet Cleaner but the one that I am reviewing is not referred to anywhere on the packaging as Acticlean. Dooyoo have told me to pop my review on here though as they must think that product is the same or at least very similar to it so here I am.
The one thing I am really fussy about is a clean toilet in my home. I hate the thought of a dirty, smelly toilet and in my time I have had the misfortune of having to use them and the likes but never has my own been less than fresh!
I bleach the bowl of my toilet often overnight but after using it in the day time or having visitors that have used it I do like to use a nice fragranced toilet cleaner to freshen it up with.
This Bloo Toilet Cleaner I bought in my local Poundland store. I thought that as usually its more like £1.75 a bottle (in all good supermarkets etc) that, that was a decent enough saving to make and I'd never seen the pink coloured 'Fruity Burst fragrance' before and basically I liked the look of it!
This toilet cleaner comes in a 750ml sized see through bottle with an integrated slightly curved nozzle to the top of it and a clear plastic cap that easily twists on and off that. On the front of the bottle there is a pink and white coloured label and we are told that this is 'Limited Edition' Bloo Super Fragrance Toilet Cleaner 'Fruity Burst' and that it 'Kills 99.9% of germs' and 'Remove limescale' and that it is a Jeyes product. On the back of the bottle there is another label and on that we are told a bit of information about the product and how to use it, warnings are listed, the size is stated (which is 750ml in this case) and contact details for Jeyes Limited are given. You can see the product through the bottle and its a nice bright pink colour and sort of transparent in its appearance.
Well the design of this bottle is good and having a curved nozzle means you can easily tip the bottle upside own, point it under the rim of the toilet and squeeze the bottle gently. Although this is obviously a liquid product its reasonably thin and pours out easily with very little effort required.
The fragrance of this is absolutely wonderfully fresh. It has a sort of Mandarin and satsuma fragrance to it which really is pleasant and natural and doesn't to me smell the colour that it is!
Its meant to kill germs and help to kill off limescale though whether it does or not, in all honesty I don't know. I mean I can't see it killing the germs or anything and I've never had a limescale problem but what I can say is that the fragrance of this banishes nasty niffs brilliantly and for a good hour or so in the fragrance department but even once the initial fragrance is no longer apparent it keeps odour at bay anyway for a good few hours and seems to neutralise it.
It doesn't stain the toilet and when you do flush the toilet after using this it does remove it without leaving any residue in the bowl and all in all I think this is a superb toilet cleaner that leaves my toilet looking and smelling fresh and keeps it looking tip top and shiny. It doesn't remove debris from the toilet, you need a good old bog brush for that but what it does do is adequate enough for my needs!
Available in all good supermarkets etc.
I first purchased the zingy orange coloured bloo toilet cleaner and found that it was quite useful in its instant odour control and when I saw the blue coloured acticlean for 57p from Home Bargains I didn't think twice about trying it. The bottle is fairly slender and inconspicuous with a common safety cap in place to stop little fingers getting into what they shouldn't. As a toilet cleaner on its own, I'm not fully convinced that it does a great job of actually cleaning the pan and is definitely much better used alongside a toilet brush. The liquid seems quite thin when compared to brands such as toilet duck and even more so against bleach and perhaps this could be a reason as to why it does not seem that effective on its own. The fragrance itself is quite pleasant and inoffensive and also freshens the bathroom or toilet up without becoming overpowering, which is negative point of the zingy orange variety.
Overall if you've got a toilet brush and are prepared to use it then this product combined with the price and fragrance it offers, should be fine for you, however if you'd rather squirt and go then I would give it a miss.
A couple of months ago my ten year old granddaughter had a very bad upset stomach while she was staying at my house, not to be too descriptive my toilet bowl looked and smelled absolutely awful by the time she left to go home. I hadn't any toilet cleaner in and on my way to the shop was cussing her for being such an awkward so-and-so who couldn't have waited until the following week when my cleaning cupboard had been replenished.
I don't have any real preference for toilet cleaner, really going for the cheapest effective cleaner I can find. This is how I ended up with the Jeyes Bloo Acticlean as it was on special offer at 79p for a 750ml bottle, I have used the Bloo cistern blocks for years and think they are great for cleaning and freshening the toilet so had confidence in this product.
The cleaner looks very nice in the bottle, if a toilet cleaner can ever be classed as looking nice, as it's a thick gel which has small granules of bicarbonate of soda suspended in it. When I gave the bottle a shake I liked the bubbles which floated up and down in the cleaner and also the way the bicarbonate of soda moved around in the liquid.
The bottle is shaped very much like any other toilet cleaner, it has the important child proof top and bent neck to enable me to carefully and accurately squeeze the cleaner around the rim of the toilet bowl.
The first time I used it I squeezed rather too much out and when I flushed the toilet it was filled with bubbles, my granddaughter had been so poorly though that it took more than one squirt to get my loo as spotless as I like it and this is certainly not the fault of Jeyes Bloo Acticlean! Luckily I had had the foresight to buy a toilet brush along with the toilet cleaner so the next squirt I allowed to settle for a few minutes before coming back to scrub it.
Did I say scrub? I meant, well, flush. That was honestly all it took to clean my toilet and bring it back to looking brand new again! After leaving the cleaner to work its magic on the mess I simply used a disposable cloth and wiped around the bowl and rim of the toilet and flushed again. Hey presto, a spotless and very fresh scented toilet. The thickness of the gel meant it clung well to the shiny surface of my toilet bowl and I could see it working on the stains that my granddaughter had left behind, after the first flush most of them had actually disappeared anyway and it was very, very light work to get rid of any specks that remained.
I have the green Jeyes Bloo Acticlean which is pine scented, I'm not usually a big fan of pine smells as I find they can easily become sickly and overpowering but Jeyes have got this one spot on as far as strength of fragrance goes. It scents the immediate area around my toilet and makes it smell fresh and clean without taking over the fragrance of my bathroom air freshener as a lot of loo cleaners do, recently I bought one from Poundland which was so strongly scented that I actually had to open my bedroom window that night because the smell was making me feel rather wheezy.
I shall certainly continue to buy this product, for 79p it takes an awful lot of work out of cleaning my toilet and smells really nice! Plus if it can deal with the results of my granddaughter's nasty stomach complaint so easily then I'm definitely not complaining!
By now most of you will probably realise that I am a tight wad and only buy items when they are reduced or cheap!! This item is no exception, I saw the Bloo acticlean in my local pound shop at the bargain price of 69p for a 750ml bottle. My opinion on toilet cleaners is that they only get flushed down the toilet so I refuse to pay extortionate amounts for them!!
The Bloo acticlean is made by Jeyes which is the manufacturer of those bloo tablets that you put in your toilet cistern and they make your toilet water a dark blue colour, they have now made a toilet cleaner, it comes in a clear plastic bottle with a red screw on cap, the cap has one of the children's safety caps and you have to squeeze at both sides to be able to screw off the cap, it has the usual bent neck to enable you to squirt the liquid underneath the toilet rim. I got the Pine toilet cleaner and the liquid is green and you can see little white bits throughout the green gel, it states on the bottle that it contains bicarbonate of soda, so I presume that this is what the white bits are. As soon as I saw that it contained bicarb I realised it should be a good cleaner, as bicarbonate of soda has been used throughout the years for cleaning all manner of things, including my shower curtain!!
The directions for use are, direct the liquid around the bowl and under the rim, when I do this I usually stick the nozzle under the rim and squirt all around the rim of the toilet, I usually find that this is enough for it to drip down and coat the whole toilet bowl. It then advises you to leave for 2 hours or overnight, you should then scrub with a toilet brush and flush, the toilet should then be left clean.
I have used this on numerous times now and I have to say that it is a very effective toilet cleaner, it leaves the toilet lovely and clean, even the bend at the bottom, where the water is, as I usually find that this part is always the dirtiest but after leaving this toilet cleaner in for a few hours, it makes it look as good as new. It also has a pleasant pine fragrance that lingers in the bathroom.
Contains bicarbonate of soda for even better cleaning! Its refreshing fragrance and foam will leave your toilet hygienically clean / Prevents limescale.
