I usually use Harpic toilet cleaner, and when it ran out my mind was pretty much made up to buy it again but when in Iceland recently I spotted this Bloo fruity burst on sale for £1 in Iceland and I decided to try something new. I am I am a bit of a germaphobe and so a good cleaning product is a must, especially for the bathroom. So is it any good?
*** What it does ***
Kills 99.9% bacteria
Removes limescale and stains
*** My opinion ***
The Bloo toilet cleaner is a rather runny pink liquid, in a transparent plastic bottle which has a narrow pointed spout at the top for easy application around the rim of the toilet bowl which is ideal for me! In the bottle it has a nice slightly berry smell, which reminds me of a cheap shampoo or some basic shower gel. In the bottle it is much more appealing because as soon as it lands in the toilet bowl it pretty much disappears and is barely smelt at all!
In terms of it's efficiency in cleaning limescale and stains it doesn't really do much as I have noticed limescale build up at the bottom of our loo and it is pretty useless at removing it as it has not budged one bit! Where it does not remove stains so easily also, and requires a good scrubbing I have opted to just use some cheap bleach as it does a much more efficient job!
It is probably normal to pick up a 750ml bottle for £1 in Iceland and its not great value for money as I've had it less than a week and almost half the bottle is already gone as it needs loads to make any difference. Unfortunately I would definitely not recommend it for anyone who wants a cleaner to freshen up their loo as it did not work any wonders in our toilet so I will be sticking with Harpic in future!
I was instinctively drawn to this limited edition bottle of Bloo toilet disinfectant when I was shopping my local B&M store. I am a big fan of bleach and use it in our toilets nearly every day so I do like to try new brands all the time. I must admit it was the thought of a pink loo that made me want to try this though!
I squirted a generous amount around the toilet bowl, and found it used around a tenth of the bottle each time so this will last me around a fortnight in our bathroom. The lid has a tamper proof screw top but it is easy to open if you squeeze it in the right place. The liquid immediately covers the toilet bowl with a see through pink colour and this is also cleaning the toilet if you leave it on a while before you flush.
I think I was expecting this to turn the water in the toilet pink a bit like the other bloo (blue) loo products but actually, it flushes clear which is OK as I don't know why I wanted pink toilet water anyway! My two year old daughter inspected our loo after I had used this and wanted to know what it was down the toilet which worried me a bit as the usual bleach is clear and not noticible (other than by smell) so I didn't want her to get too interested in this cleaner so perhaps the colour is a bit of a draw for her. The smell was quite fruity and pleasant but not overpowering and not at all like the usual bleachy smell (which I don't actually mind!). It also cleaned the toilet well without me having to even get a brush to it so for minimum effort you did get a white sparkly toilet.
I paid only £1 for the 750ml bottle in B&M which I thought was a great price.
I love the way this turns the toilet pink for a bit although it disappears after one flush and just leaves a clean foamy water. It is great in that it kills that magic 99.9 germs percentage and the bottle is angled ideally for squirting around the rim of the toilet. A shame perhaps that it is limited edition so not forced to be on the shop shelves for a long time. I realise not everyone wants a pink loo but it is good for showing where you might have missed which you can't always tell with the clear bleach. This is definitely not one my husband would pick up and is definitely aimed at women!

The product I am reviewing is a toilet cleaner by Bloo which is part of the Jeyes Group. The toilet cleaner is limited edition as they seem to bring out different toilet cleaners each season. I am reviewing the Fruity Burst one, but you can also purchase Flower Festival as well which is blue in colour. The toilet cleaner comes in a plastic bottle which is smooth to touch. The bottle is clear and you can see the bright coloured liquid in the bottle which is a bright pink colour. On the front of the bottle it states what the product is and that it kills 99.9% of germs and also helps to remove lime scale. On the back of the bottle you will find some information about the product such as how to use it and a list of ingredients. I have used some Bloo products before, mainly the blocks that go in the cistern to colour the water and leave the toilet fresh and clean. I was in my local Poundland store purchasing some bits for work and one of the things I needed was toilet cleaner so I thought I would give this a go to see what it was like, and it was also a good opportunity to write a new review too! As I purchased this from my local PoundLand store, yes . . You guessed it, it cost me just £1.00 for a 750ml bottle which I thought was pretty good.
Using the Product

The bottle has a safety cap on it and the side need to be squeezed in and the lid needs to be twisted before you can actually get the lid off. This is easy for an adult to do, but not for children which is good. I put the nozzle under the rim of the toilet bowl and squeezed the bottle a little as I moved it round the rim. As I did this I could see how much of the cleaner I was applying as it was bright pink and showed up on the toilet bowl. I actually thought this toilet cleaner was really quite runny, compared to others I have used before; perhaps it was me just being silly though. I could smell the fruity smell of the cleaner, this was ok but smelt a little too fake to me. I decided to leave the cleaner for a good 30mins to work and then I would come back to flush it and see the results. I went back to toilet after approximately 30 minutes and I could really smell the fruity smell of the product, I wasn't really sure whether I liked this or not and I think I preferred more of a bleach smell to this as bleach smells cleaner. Most of the pink liquid had run down the inside of the bowl now and a section of liquid had gathered on the bottom of the bowl in the water. I flushed the toilet and immediately it foamed up. As the toilet flushed it washed away the bright pink liquid and left white foam sitting on top of the water in the bowl. The bowl itself did look cleaner and a lot shinier than it had done before so I was very pleased as this clearly cleans the toilet very well. I can't actually comment on the lime scale side of things as the toilet didn't have any lime scale anyway. Since using the toilet cleaner I certainly haven't noticed any lime scale either so this must be doing a good job of keeping it at bay.

Although I'm not really a pink person I think the brightness of the liquid is what attracted me to buying this product in the first place. It is a brand I am aware of and have used before so I did expect the cleaner to be reasonably good and work quite well. In terms of cleaning the toilet bowl I think it did a brilliant job and it left the bowl looking clean and shiny. The toilet cleaner definitely leaves your toilet with a fruity smell, but like me some other people may not really like this smell. As the liquid is coloured you can see where you have applied the product so you can be sure that you don't miss any parts when applying it under the rim of the bowl. I use the cleaner a few times a week and I also apply it on Friday before leaving work and leave it to work all weekend ready to flush the toilet when I come into work on the Monday. In terms of value I can't really complain as I only paid £1.00 for the product. This will probably cost you more if you purchase it from a supermarket such as Sainsbury's or Tesco. I'm not sure I would purchase this product again as I'm not too keen on the smell and I think other products out there can probably do a better job than this one.
(review also on ciao)
In one of my trips to town I made the obligatory visit to my local Poundland to see if they had any new products since I had last been in. Whilst having a quick skim of the shelves my eye was caught by a bright pink bottle of 'Bloo' toilet cleaner. I decided to give it a god as my toilet doesn't have a cistern so I don't get to have lovely coloured water which I most annoyed about but however. Of course it only cost me £1 but I have seen it in regular supermarkets for around the £1.60 mark for 750mls of product which isn't bad but I tend to stick to cleaners £1 or less as there are always plenty of offers on, it does however mean I'm not loyal to any particular brand.
As Jeyes is a well established brand with a good reputation I decided that this would have to be at the very least a decent product so before I had even opened the bottle I was happy with my purchase. This product comes as most other toilet cleaners do with an angled neck and spout to get under the rim and make the toilet extra clean and fresh. The bottle is transparent which allows you to see the bright pink cleaning fluid within making it easy to know when you are going to need to buy more. With it being this colour it is definitely eye catching and stands out from other such cleaners. The label has a floral image in more muted tones of pink with 'Bloo' written in white contained within a blue bubble, this clearly points us to the brand name which is a cleaver tactic I think.
The cap is a safety cap as many others also have, to remove you simply squeeze either side of the cap and twist. I like this feature as it means that if my son ever were to decided to touch the cleaner her wouldn't be able to get into it and pour it over himself or drink it which is obviously a plus. The bottle has a lovely curved shape to it which makes it extremely easy to hold and pour with one handed. It's a little heavy but not too much so that you would be forced to use 2 hands to pour. Removing the product is as simple as angling the nozzle to where you want it to go and squirting. I find that this comes out rather quickly so to preserve the amount of cleaner you use it's advisable to be gentle with this at first. The cleaner is not incredibly thick but it is thick enough that it clings on well enough for a couple of hours. When I used it overnight I found that there was still a very thin pink layer around the bowl in the morning. Of course it is easy to see where the product has been applied by the bright colour so ensures you get every bit of the bowl clean and shiney.
The scent of this product is not like that of a regular toilet cleaner. It has a very floral scent with an undertone of chemicals, it isn't the most pleasant smell as it does have a fakeness to it as well as being rather strong but it's not so bad that I would never use it again. I do find that the scent doesn't linger as long as some bathroom products. This seems to last a couple of hours before dissolving to nothing.
The product claims to get rid of up to 99.9% of germs but as I can't actively see this I have to assume that this is working. I would hope it would anyway. I find that my toilet is very clean and white after use with a good shine to it. I normally just flush it away in the morning after I have left it overnight but when I've given the bathroom a good clean I'll use a toilet brush and it works well at getting rid of any marks that might be around.
Overall I think this is a great product, it cleans well, looks good and has a better fragrance than some of the other cleaners out there. If it can be bought for £1 I think this is a great buy, I probably wouldn't pay anymore than this for it though as I did find that the bottle didn't last quite as long as some other products I have used in this category, it just seemed to be slightly thinner than others which was a bit of a disappointment but I wouldn't hesitate to give it a go. It's a great little cleaner.
I don't tend to stick to a toilet cleaner brand as there are a few I choose from depending on the price. However, having tried this one, I actually really like it so it's one I'll look out for in future.
Bloo, a Jeyes product, is a popular brand that I consider to be effective and trustworthy. They have a range of cleaners depending on personal preference, but I opted for the Limited Edition one when I saw it in store. I like these as opposed to clip on cleaners sometimes just because I choose when and how much to use, so I find it better value for money and more effective because you target exactly what you want to. This comes in a curvy, clear, thick/sturdy plastic bottle and looks strangely attractive for a toilet cleaner because of the vibrant pink colour of the liquid.
This is described as a 'super fragrance toilet cleaner' in 'Fruity Burst', designed for a 'Bloo kind of freshness'. I liked the sound of something scented but I also wanted it to be effective, which is sounds to be as it claims it also 'kills 99% of germs, removes limescale'. Many cleaners claim to get rid of germs and yucky limescale, but I think this is set apart from others because of its focus on being so scented, and it did stand out on the shelf for me because of its colour
The bottle top is fairly easy to remove by squeezing in the pads on the side to allow the cap to be twisted off. You use this as you would any toilet cleaner : Point the nozzle under the rim of the toilet and squeeze the bottle. You'll see the pink liquid and know exactly which areas you've covered, so you can then flush when ready. If you need more hardcore cleaning, for instance if there's a build-up of limescale, you can leave it overnight.
I've found this to indeed have a 'fruity burst' of scent that's sweet and uplifting but not too overpowering. It actually goes well in a bathroom to make it seem both clean and fresh, so I really like this aspect. It also seems to do a good job at cleaning and washes away well, so it's effective and easy to use at the same time. I bought this in 750ml and don't use a great deal each time, just enough to line the toilet and keep germs/limescale at bay; it seems to last me a reasonable while so I'd say it's fairly good value for money in this respect. Leaving it overnight also does work well for any build-up, so it's not just an airy fairy scented product, it works effectively even when the job is tougher.
Overall, I would recommend this if you want something effective yet pleasant and uplifting for your bathroom cleaning routine.
750ml sells for around £1.60 (also available in Bright Violet)
