“ Brand: Jeyes / Type: Toilet Cleaner / Subcategory: Limescale Remover / Category: Cleaning & Disinfectant „
Like most people I like a fresh clean toilet and have always got some sort of cistern cleaner or rim block on the go and sometimes both. Obviously these don't replace a good old loo brush (which I buy from Poundland or similar as I don't like keeping them for too long for obvious reasons!) but I do like the idea that they are working without having to do much with them.
I bought this Bloo Max from Tesco about four weeks ago and paid £1.50 which is a bit more than I would usually spend as I tend to go for Tesco's own brands, but thought I would just try it as it was such a reputable make it would do the job really well.
The packaging is quite appealing, it is a bright blue and white card with the block in a clear plastic circle with the words Bloo Max. It tells you that it is a New Formula and that it lasts up to 2 months, also that it is super foaming and gives you fresh blue water. As unlike some of these packagings it was easy to get the block out without using scissors or a knife, I just pulled the card at the back and it came away from the plastic. The block itself is in a dark blue wrapper which you don't have to unwrap as this dissolves in the cistern.
When I first open the packaging I could smell the block which smelled quite fresh but a bit strong. I dropped the block into the opposite end of the cistern to the flush as instructed and allowed 10 minutes before flushing the toilet. After a few flushes the blue started to appear and I could see the bubbles in the water. There was quite a strong smell but it didn't really smell of anything particular apart from a cleaning product. After only about two weeks I noticed that the water was only a very light blue and the bubbles were non existent. Also there was no smell at all which is something I would expect after such a short time. The sides of the toilet did seem to be quite clean but I do also use bleach regularly so this may have been down to this.
All in all I was very disappointed with this product and would have expected it to last much longer and be much stronger than that. I note that the wording is that it lasts UP TO two months but do wonder what the criteria is for this, maybe it is if you only use the loo once or twice a day! There are only the two of us and we are out at work in the day so the loo isn't used excessively so I definitely haven't got my money's worth out of this.
Verdict: Very disappointed, will be reverted back to Tesco's own next time
I bought a Bloo Max on 6th April as the blurb said it would last up to 2 months - suckered again!!!! By yesterday, 19th April, there was no trace of any blue colour in the toilet or Bloo in the cistern. We are an elderly couple who live on our own and my husband saves buckets of bath water to pour down the toilet so here is certainly no over-flushing in our house. This product smells great but I certainly wouldn't buy it again at the price it's on sale for or recommend it to anyone else.
We have tried another cistern block by Jeyes called Bloo Max. The cost was £1.40 but we paid it as it said it would last up to FOUR MONTHS! That sounded like great value for money but sadly it wasn't. Once I had finally managed to prize the round dark blue block from the cardboard and plastic casing I popped it into the cistern as recommended. I flushed the loo after a bit and was rewared with a nice industrial smelling, foaming blue loo. I liked the smell - that was probably the only thing I did like about this cistern block.
I would say this loo block must have worked okay for around four weeks maximum. After that it quickly disintegrated until there was just no foam, no smell, no nothing. I think it did initially make the inside of the toilet bowl look more sparkling and cleaner and a lot whiter but once I had lifted up the cistern to have a look after a few weeks, there was just no sign at all of the loo block. It had vanished.
I don't rate this product at all as a loo cleaner. It certainly does not do what it is meant to do and I resent the fact that I have paid good money yet agaian for another useless loo cleaner.
Not impressed, hence the one star raing for this product.
I do like a clean looking and fresh smelling loo - but I don't like having to swish round it each day with the brush . I was looking for something that would keep my loo nice and fresh for longer between real cleans - and came across the Bloo Max Cistern Block, which according to the packaging would last up to 2 months. It looks exactly like the usual bloo blocks, only larger.
To use this, you simply remove the card and plastic outer wrapping, and you are left with a squidgy block that still appears wrapped. Don't worry about that though - you don't have to peel this - just pop the whole block, as it is, in the cistern, leave for ten minutes, and then give the loo a flush.
On first flush, I got dark blue water, and plenty of foam. It had a slightly bitter cleaning fluid smell to it, and I was fairly confident it was going to keep my loo nice and clean. However, I noticed after a few days that the block really wasn't doing much foaming any more, just giving blue coloured water, and that this too was gradually fading . In all, it took about 3 weeks before I stopped seeing any colour altogether .
Being fair to the block, the toilet in our house gets used quite a lot, as we all make a point of drinking a lot of water to stay hydrated and therefore need a lot of wee's . But I am still disappointed that we didn't get anything near two months use out of our block - perhaps it would last that long in a single persons house, but it's not really going to work out very economically for a family of three or more, especially as a block of this costs around £1.40 , compared to 38p for two slightly smaller own brand value blocks from the supermarket, which would cover the same amount of time and perform just as well.
This might work out well for some people , but left me disappointed - it did clean and foam well at first, but the effects were not long lasting and this is more expensive than comparable products . 2 stars.
As you will see from a previous review I recently tried the lemon fragrance Bloo Loo cistern blocks and was less than impresses. However despite this during a recent trip to Tesco I saw Boo Max In Cistern Block on offer and decided to give it a try, hoping that it may be better than the first ones I tried.
The Bloo Max Cistern Block came attached to a mainly blue and white card closely covered with a plastic film. The Words Bloo Max are written in large white letters within a blue circle at the top of the card. It says "new formula" in a red circle to the left of this and "Lasts up to 2 months" in blue and red letters to the right of the card. The cistern block is attached to the card below the writing in the middle of a large splash of water. The usual information such as instructions of use, ingredients and warnings are all written on the back of the card. All of this information is clearly written and easy to read.
Directions of Use
You use the Bloo Max Cistern Block in exactly the same was as the original Bloo Loo blocks, you simply drop it into cistern water the opposite side to where the water come in. The block needs to be left for 10 minutes before flushing. That is basically it, once in the water the block is supposed to last for up to 2 months.
The Product & Did it Work?
The Bloo Max cistern block is basically the same in appearance as the regular ones in that is covered in a dissolvable mesh cover and has an almost soapy texture to it, the only difference is that it is twice the size. When I took the block out of the packaging the block was a dark blue in colour and the smell was quite strong so I was hopeful that this Bloo block was going to be much better than the original ones. I followed the instructions and dropped the block into the water and left for 10 minutes before flushing the toilet. After the first flush the water in the toilet was instantly a dark blue in colour and had foamed up quite nicely. On first impression I was quite impressed and was sure that the Bloo Max was going to be a success, however this was shorted lived, one thing I did notice with the Bloo Max was that there was no fragrance whatsoever which particularly disappointed me however if it kept my loo clean between cleans then I could cope with that. But after a couple of days I began to notice that the foam after flushing was gradually getting less and less. Within a week there was not foam at all just bright blue water!!!!! The Bloo Max has not really helped at keeping the toilet clean either, I have also noticed that the blue colour of the water has started to leave a blue mark around the water line which I have to keep cleaning off. So all I can say is no the Bloo Max Cistern Block did not work any better then the original ones I tried. There was no fragrance, a little bit of foam for a week which soon disappeared, and it is leaving a blue mark around the toilet so all in all it was not a success. The card the block came on said that the blocked lasted up to 2 months, whilst the colour has lasted that is about it everything else struggled to last a week. So this was certainly not a success.
15-30% Anionic Surfactants
It is advised that this product does not come into contact with your skin or eyes, however it does also say that should this occur you need to wash your hands thoroughly or if it gets into your eyes rinse them and seek medical advise.
I purchase the Bloo Max Cistern Block for £1 in Tesco when it was on offer however full price it costs £1.32 for one large block.
Overall I was just as unimpressed with the Bloo Max as I was with the original ones. It certainly did not live up to its promise of last for 2 months. As I said previously there was no fragrance to this product once in the water, the was no foaming action as stated on the card. It did leave the water blue in colour as stated on the card however this is now leaving the toilet with a blue line around it. All in all this was a totally unsuccessful product and not one I would recommend.
None really only it was cheap when I bought it
Leaves a blue line around the toilet
No fragrance once in the water
Foam only lasts a week
Does not really keep the loo clean
I just had to write a review on this little block calling it self 'Jeyes Bloo Max' it claims to last up to four months in your toilet cistern cleaning, foaming and freshening with every flush!
Oh I nearly forgot it also claims to help prevent lime scale too.
I bought one of these from Tesco a month ago it cost me 1.25 but at the time I think I was drawn to the Max part of the products title.
'Jeyes' do have a good name, after all they are sponsoring the Bill at the moment even if they are using a very irritating family that do nothing all day but whiff out nasty smells around their house and garden.
It comes on a blue card within a blister pack and quite tricky to remove without getting blue dye and a strong smell of cleaner on your hands, so I suggest you open it carefully by cutting the top of the card and down two sides before peeling the pack off and then pop it into your cistern.
The block itself is covered in a fine mesh to stop it dissolving too quickly I should imagine, and this is then best left for about ten minutes before you flush.
Yes the water flushes blue as described and yes plenty of froth but the smell is horrible, the best way to describe it is a mixture of bubble gum and tar.
Not my cup of tea at all, but because I wanted to do a fair Dooyoo on this product I did leave it for a few days to get the opinions of other members of my family.
Husband couldn't find anything wrong with the smell, well he doesn't notice very much about the house anyway, but my neighbor was rubbing her nose a bit after visiting the loo one afternoon she is very honest and said that she thought the smell was far too overpowering.
OK lets be fair here now, apart from the Yucky smell, does this product do the job it claims too?
The loo stayed clean and the bowl always looked shiny, so I should imagine it would help to prevent lime scale and kill germs. I opened the top of the cistern and noticed that the block had hardly dissolved, which is also good.
I reckon it would last for at least a month in our house, but not up to four months as they state on the packaging, but I am taking an educated guess here because I put my marigolds on and removed the block.
I would not buy this product again purely because of the smell.
Simply drop this concentrated formulation into the cistern and prevent limescale and freshen your loo / This block colours the water blue and foams with every flush!
