Advantages: Easy to cut, clean and use. Saves so much time and effort in cleaning your oven.
Disadvantages: Box hard to open, doesn't look pretty.
I had a new kitchen put in about four months ago and was adamant that I was going to keep it looking beautiful and clean. I knew just the place to go to help me in my bid to be a domestic goddess. Lakeland.
I hadn't intended to buy an oven liner, in fact I hadn't even heard of one before, but it was displayed next to the oven cleaner and I thought I would give it a try. Here is how I got on.
What is it ? Well it is called Magic oven liner and basically it is a sheet of heat resistant plastic that sits at the bottom of the oven. It can be easily wiped over to keep your oven sparkly and new.
The packaging - It comes rolled up in a long plastic tube. The lid is a horror to remove, it is clipped in so tight and I broke two nails trying to unclip it, perhaps I am just a weakling. On the shelf it doesn't really look like an oven liner, so if you are looking for it you might have to ask. It certainly doesn't jump of the shelf or have any pretty packaging. But it's what's in the inside that counts.
What is in the inside ? Well a 50 cm square piece of the toughest plastic on the block. The magic oven liner is black and made of a really hard wearing plastic. It is heat resistant up to 260 oC which is hot hot hot !! It can be wiped, washed and scrubbed and always comes up as good as new. This is the Mr Bond of plastics.
It is easy to cut to size. I had enough left over to go on one of my small baking trays, which is fab if I am cooking sausages or fish. They just glide off and the liner can be washed in the dishwasher.
How good is it really ?
Well I have had mine on the go for about six months and without sounding really sad, it is one of the best things I have ever bought. I hate cleaning the kitchen, it's one of those awful dirty jobs that always takes so much longer than anticipated. But the magic oven liner really cuts out all that scrubbing and elbow grease. Spilt food just wipes off even things like melted cheese or burnt grease.
I give it a wipe over after most uses and then when I clean the oven trays I put the liner in the dishwasher to give it a big clean. It still looks like new.
When I just looked on the Lakeland website to find out how much it was, I saw that you can use it in the microwave and in the freezer. So would be great if you batch cook to line trays and tins etc.
How much is it ? It costs £9.99 which seems like quite a lot. But I really think that this is worth every penny and will save you so much time, effort and money in oven cleaner.
Where can I buy it ? You can buy it from Lakeland. Either in one of the shops or online at www.lakeland.co.uk . There is a £4.95 delivery charge.
PRICE £9.99
Summary: A fabulous kitchen aid that really works and helps keep your oven like new.
