Morning Fresh Washing Up Liquid
Advantages: Only need a little bit, works really well at cleaning dishes, smells good, lasts a long time
Disadvantages: Husband chose it and was proved right :(
After all his moaning and groaning about the ineffectiveness of the last bottle of washing up liquid we had (see Easy washing up liquid review to find out just how bad it is!), when it finally came to an end I asked my husband to pop to the shops for another bottle, giving him strict instructions to only come back with Fairy as I had no intention of listening to him going on about another bad washing up liquid every night.
So, when he came home looking pleased as punch with himself because he'd got a "bargain" I assumed that he must have found Fairy on offer. Alas no, he produced a bottle of Morning Fresh in the Original Fresh variety which he's purchased for £1 on special offer, including 50% extra free, so nearly 700ml of washing up liquid for £1. After the last disaster I was a bit miffed to say the least and told him in no uncertain terms that when this one turned out to be rubbish too he'd better not moan about it because we'd agreed that this was not a product we were going to scrimp on in future and it would be his own fault if his nightly washing up chore was made worse by this purchase.
In case you hadn't gathered, I actually wanted not to like this washing up liquid and was fully expecting that to be the case. I was really really hoping that this one would turn out to be rubbish too because I do like to be proved right! Annoyingly though, it has in fact turned out to be actually quite good and so really was a bargain!
The bottle shape has changed from the picture shown above but not drastically, it just has a more pointy top now. It still comes in a clear plastic bottle with a nozzle on top through which the washing up liquid is dispensed and the liquid itself is a nice deep green colour. The label tells us it now includes 'Sparklex' to give superior grease cutting performance for sparkling clean dishes. On the back there are the usual list of ingredients (I'm not going to bore you by listing them all, don't worry!) and a contact address for the company, along with advice about washing your hands after use, keeping out of the reach of children and not using on fabrics.
When you lift the lid you're greeted with a smell that took me straight back to the summery days of my childhood when we used to try and blow bubbles, it's a proper traditional smelling washing up liquid which is exactly what I like. I know a lot of people favour them, but I really don't like fragrances liquids like lavender, berry etc. I can just about cope with lemon scented ones, but definitely prefer the classic fragrance and would always choose this one.
Despite the fact that my husband does tend to do most of the washing up in our house (I do most of the cooking so it's only fair!) I actually ended up using this first. I was determined that it was going to be as bad as the last cheap washing up liquid so squeezed a good old amount into the bowl whilst running the hot tap over it, assuming I would need to use lots of this to get any kind of results too. I was very surprised then, when a huge amount of soft, frothy bubbles formed, filling half of my washing up bowl and limiting how much water I could actually fit into it. Lesson learnt! Squeeze a small amount first, then add more if needed!
I attacked the dishes with my washing up sponge, still thinking there was no way this one was going to be a good performer. But to my annoyance each dish that I washed came up sparkling clean really quickly with no need to stand there scrubbing at it for ages. Obviously dishes with dried on leftovers or grease, casserole dishes and frying pans etc can benefit from a bit of a soak before you have a go at them or will need extra elbow grease to bring them up nice and clean, but for the most part this is a very effective washing up liquid. It cuts through general dirty dishes quickly and makes washing up that bit more bearable.
After having used Easy immediately before this it is easy to see the difference in the dishes straight away. Since we started using Morning Fresh I haven't noticed any leftover little bits of food stuck on bowls or plates, no telltale drips of coffee on a mug rim and the glasses have all been left sparkling (which I assume can only be thanks to the addition of the Sparklex!) with no marks left on them. And as you only need a small amount it lasts for a long time. We're about halfway through our bottle now after about a month of use.
The best bit for me is the fragrance of it. It really does smell like a traditional washing up liquid and actually fills the entire kitchen with it's scent. So that, combined with the lovely soft, foamy bubbles it creates and the ease with which it cleans dishes means that I can do nothing but recommend this washing up liquid. Whether I'd love it so much if we were testing it straight after having used Fairy rather than Easy I can't say, but what I can tell you is that I would definitely consider buying this again if I found it on offer rather than Fairy, which from me is a big recommendation!
PS HE likes it too! Grrrrrrrrr
Summary: A good washing up liquid that does what a washing up liquid should do
