Mr Muscle Lemon Kitchen Cleaner
Advantages: Cleans effortlessly and leaves your kitchen sparkling.
Disadvantages: Smells overbearing.
I purchased this spray recently as it was on special offer, which is the reason that most of my household cleaning products end up in my cupboard. I'm not brand loyal generally- just thrifty! This product generally retails at around £1.60, which is reasonable enough within its range. I always look for two things in a kitchen cleaner (OK- three things, but we already know I'm thrifty). I like it to be anti bacterial as that makes me feel like a better mum/wife, and I like it to have a nice smell so that, driven by my senses, I can convince myself that my kitchen is clean even if I've just tickled a corner with a cloth. Of course it needs to clean well- but I just assume that any popular branded cleaning product I buy will do so...
~~An Exciting Day!~~
The particular bottle of Mr Muscle Lemon Kitchen cleaner that I have is orange with a yellow label, unlike the picture, but it looks like they may have changed it recently as it states 'Same great Formula' on the label. The weedy little man that we all know and love is still present! It's eye catching when you're shopping (I believe I heard once that orange is the most eye catching colour?), and the discounted price helped so I was pleased to take it home and own. I simply could not wait to try it out on my cooker and surfaces!!! That's actually not even a flippant comment...I was pretty excited as I obviously need to get out more...
~~Armed and Dangerous~~
So armed with damp cloth and my new exciting bottle of wonder cleaner, off I go on the kitchen work surfaces. It states that you should spray it on the surface and leave for five minutes before wiping. I really don't have the patience for that kind of carry on, so I intended to get in there and wipe as soon as possible...and this moment could not come soon enough when the smell hit me.
~~A fantastic handy man- shame about your odour...~~
Whatever the smell is, it's about as far from Lemon Fresh as you can get...it's just pungent and vile! Unfortunately I had made like Quick Draw Mcgraw and squirted it all over the kitchen in a micro second. I wiped it off as quickly as I could and the surfaces instantly came up nicely. I have a Belfast sink, which is a pain to clean, and a quick whizz around with a cloth after it had been Mr Muscled was enough to have it sparkling and the more stubborn stains removed without much effort- so I imagine that if it was left to to its thing for the full five minutes as it should be, cleaning would be effortless. The taps looked lovely and shiny. The cooker was no challenge to the Muscle at all and any gunk vanished instantly. There was no residue and my kitchen looked lovely- unfortunately it smelt horrid. I did numerous cloth rinses and had to go over the surfaces again to try to get rid of the smell. Unfortunately, it's still lingering six hours later. When cooking earlier, I could barely smell the meal over the bleachey rancidness. It really is unappetising! What really disturbed me was the smell in the microwave after heating my toddler's milk tonight, as it's really not nice to smell chemicals when your baby's drink is being prepared- and I'd not even squirted it in the microwave- I'd just used the same cloth to wipe it down earlier! I think the smell is going to linger in my home forever!
I'll have to give this chap three stars- he'd get five if he smelt better and less overbearing!
All in all, I can't fault the cleaning power of Mr Muscle, but the smell of him means that I shan't be inviting him into my home again!
Summary: Too stinky for me, I won't buy it again, which is a shame as it's a great cleaner.
