Advantages: Left windows shiny

Disadvantages: Quite expensive at full price, did streak

Over the past week, me and my mum have been spring cleaning & washing the patio doors was a task made quite awkward due to the recent hose pipe ban. We decided to pop to Tesco a few days ago as I needed to stock up on some bits and we popped down the cleaning isle on the way to the checkouts to see if there was any cheap window cleaner. I was planning on getting some from the Tesco value range as I don't see the point in spending much money on cleaning products, but as I couldn't find any I just grabbed some of this, which is the Mr Muscle window and glass cleaner. I opted for this as it wasn't too pricey due to it been reduced from £1.98 to just £1.

We stocked up on a couple of bottles due to it been on offer; there is no way I would purchase it at full price when there are much cheaper, just as good versions available. I also picked it up because it's a brand I am familiar with, mainly due to the adverts that used to be shown on telly regulary. The packaging is simple and it comes in a transparent plastic bottle, meaning the green cleaning fluid can be seen. The bottle has a bulky, slightly rounded body and then a neck which is designed to be grasped while cleaning. There is the nozzle thingie at the end of the neck attatched to the lid which has a 'trigger' (not sure how else to describe it!) When the 'trigger' is pulled, liquid sqirts out. The lid can be unscrewed too which is handy if transferring some into a bowl of water. The bottle is made of sturdy plastic and can be recycled.

The branding of the packaging is minimalistic but eyecatching, due to the green and orange colour scheme. For my £1 I got 500ml of the liquid which doesn't sound a lot but it really is and we only used about 1/4 of the bottle to clean our triple patio doors. Using the liquid is very easy. We decided to use it by squirting some onto a sponge and then wiping the windows down, and topping up on the liquid whenever we needed to. Alternatively you could squirt it straight onto the glass and then wipe it with a sponge, tissue, j cloth and so on. You could also transfer some of the liquid into a bowl of water and then clean the windows with the water.

The cleaning fluid is said to 'cut through grease fast and effectively, without smearing.' This isn't really true though as it did smear quite badly and also bubbled quite a bit on the glass, meaning once we'd finished wiping it down with the cleaning fluid we then had to wash it down with some sponges which was a little time consuming and it was like doing the same job twice. The manufacturers also state that the liquid has 'added vinegar for a streak-free shine' which obviously isn't true as it does streak however I have to admit it did leave the glass noticeably shiny.

When it came to getting mud and dried bits of dirt etc off of the glass (near the bottom), it wasn't too hard, it took a lot of scrubbing and I didn't notice that the fluid helped ease the mud etc off of the surface off the glass, however the manufacturers do not claim that it does. The smell is very strong and chemical but as we were outside cleaning the patio doors this wasn't an issue; if I was cleaning the inside i'd certianly make sure a window was open. Once we'd finished cleaning our patio doors with this and had washed them down they looked noticeably shinier and very clean.

We couldn't reach the very top as i'm 5'3 and my mum is 5'0 so we could really see the difference between where we'd cleaned and the small band near the top that we couldn't reach. My brother did the top when he got back home and he found the spray easy to use aswell; the spray nozzle thingie is easy to use and it fires a decent amount of product out with each squirt... I found it quite fun to use lol and to be honest I think my brother had more fun cleaning the windows then he'd want to admit lol. Although we only used this to clean our patio doors it can be used on any glass including mirrors, glass coffee tables and so on.

Overall, I would reccomend this. It makes the windows shiny but although it claims it doesn't streak, it does. They're not hideously noticeable but were bad enough to reqcuire a good wipe down with a wet sponge. Despite this though the product does do what it says when it comes to the 'sparkling clean' claim. I wouldn't pay full price for this but when on offer it's worth stocking up on.

Summary: Wouldn't buy at full price
