“ Brand: Mr Sheen / Type: Floor Cleaner / Category: Cleaning & Disinfectant „
Last year my husband put wooden floors down in the whole of our downstairs bar the kitchen which has nice tiles on it. I love the wooden floor as it is very easy to keep clean compared to carpets when you have two kids, a dog and a cat roaming about. I find it very easy to clean when it comes to actually cleaning it but it is a bit hard to keep clean in between washes. If you spill anything on it like tea or a drop of liquid here and there the liquid does tend to show up quite well as a spot on the floor and this needs something doing to it to shift it.
I wanted to get something that was not a mop as I don't think its very good for a proper wooden floor to get soaking wet when you are cleaning it so I just wanted to find something that would take the dirt and stains away without soaking the floor and possibly ruining it. A quick survey around the shelves in Sainsburys led me to Mr Sheen wood and floor. I stopped to look at this one in particular mainly as it had wood in the title and I have used Mr Sheen products before and they have always been of good quality. Mr Sheen wood and floor is said to Clean, condition and protect.
THe cleaner is pretty powerful stuff as it contains anionic surfactants, perfume, limonene, hexyl cinnamal, preservative - methylisothiazolinone and benzoisothiazolinone so I definitely recommend being very careful with it. I will only use it on my floor when the kids are either napping or in bed and I do try and keep my pets in the kitchen until I can be sure it has fully dried and I feel a bit safe with it. In fact the directions on the bottle tell you that in case of contact with eyes and skin, rinse with water and seek medical advice. If swallowed, seek medical advice. I use mine with gloves as I actually put my solution on a cloth and rub away the dirt myself instead of using a big mop .
The liquid is easy to use. I just get it wet enough to be effective and then I rub at the places where I know there is dirt. You can actually see the dirt coming up straight away so I find this a very effective cleaner. You do not need much for it to work. The cleaner does have what they call a fresh scent and I find it just a nice neutral smell and not a chemical smell which is lovely as i hate nothing more than your floors smelling like you have put disinfectant on them.
A 750ml bottle costs £3 and we have had ours forever now and I can see it lasting for quite a few months more so in my opinion is very good value for money and a product that works.
Cleaning floor surfaces is a major issue for me because most of mine are laminate flooring and besides the utility room and the kitchen which have tiles everywhere is almost laminated.
With tiles in the kitchen I usually have a mop and boiling hot water and just spray a disinfectant or a small amount of bleach and begin cleaning and often it leaves behind a cruel smell and never seems to offer great results.
In my local Tesco I saw this Mr Sheen cleaner which says on the bottle it does clean tiles, wood, lino and laminate so it instantly appealed. I have had Mr Sheen polish in the past and this has provided me with excellent results so why not go and get a floor cleaner by the same firm?
The bottle is see-through and you do get 500ml for £2.20 and this is available in many supermarkets and other stores as well. The bottle is a spray function so it means you spray some on the floor and use a mop to rub it in.
The first place I tried this item was on laminate wood which I decided I would take a small step first to see how it performs. The wood is quite dark in some rooms and lighter in others so I tried the lighter wood texture.
I spray some of this Mr Sheen solution onto the floor and go my cloth I use for laminate flooring and begin to make some moves around the wood and I became aware the dirt was disappearing. There is a nice smell which comes from this product as well much nicer than bleach can offer.
After a few moments I began to take a look at the cloth and it was black from the amount of dirt it was picking up from the floor yet the floor never looked that dirty to the human eye.
I then decided to continue using this around the home and the floor does look slippery at first but within a few minutes this wet looking surface dries up without smears and looks superb.
I thought the results for the laminate flooring were sensational it offered a quick clean with little effort and not much liquid is needed to produce those great results. I did find however that the smell was lovely and it lasted but if you use this throughout your home on the same day it can become overpowering.
I tried this on lino I have in a shed outside and again the results were excellent and to see it work on other surfaces besides laminated wood was a nice feeling because then you know the product is producing super results.
The last place to try was tiles on my kitchen floor and to be honest I was not holding out much hope for anything other than a quick clean like most products do with tiles. After a few moments of using this I found I was drying up too quickly.
I did put some hot water on the floor and then sprayed this liquid into that water and began to mop around the tiled floor and the results soon began to work better for me which was really nice. Again the smell was there and you do not need to use too much of this item to get good results.
I have used it on the surfaces mentioned and found excellent results which are great and the price although might put people off is about right in my view. You're paying for a product which gives you great results and also from a well-known brand which you can trust at the same time.
In my view this is a great product which is good at delivering quick cleaning to floor surfaces which leaves a nice smell behind afterwards which smells fresh and clean.
I usually clean my kitchen floor with flash liquid dissolved in a bucket. But as I have said in previous reviews I have 3 cats and they do tend to make an awful mess round their food bowls or bring little "gifts" home for me. I wanted a floor cleaner that was quick and easy to use on a small area. I got Mr Sheen spray and mop from Tesco. It costs £2.00 for a 500ml.
The bottle has a trigger spray with an on/off end. It is made of clear plastic so you always know how much is left. It has a red label on the front with Mr Sheen spray &mop written on it. Mr Sheen claims its cleans, cares and shines for wood, laminate, tiles and lino. The directions are on the back of the label along with a warning not to use this product on waxed or unsealed floors. Also not to get the cleaner in your eyes and to keep out of the reach of children.
When using this product it does say to sweep or hoover the floor first.
I first time I tried this cleaner was round my cats bowls. I swept the bits up, (why do they have to pull their food out and eat from the floor?) and sprayed the small area. The cleaner sends out a good amount of liquid per spray so usually I only need just one. The liquid smells of oranges, its lovely and quite strong too.
I wiped round the area I wanted to clean and was really pleased. Mr Sheen cleaned the floor quickly and effectively. There's no need to rinse with this product so it is ideal, and as there's no water or mop and bucket involved it saves me so much time.
I have used this on the whole floor and I found it cleaned very well, however I do think when you do this it works out expensive compared to my usual floor cleaner that I dilute.
After using this cleaner the smell does linger, its lovely and orangey, really fresh. If the room is small, like the bathroom, the smell lasted for ages. I used it in the morning and could still smell it at lunch time. This wasn't the case in the other rooms though, but while it lasts its very nice.
I have found Mr Sheen spray & mop so useful. I can quickly wipe away spills and marks from shoes. Its such a time saver in the mornings before work.
It can also be used on skirting boards or windowsills. I've not tried this yet but I do have a wooden pine storage box that I have stained with wood stain so it matches the rest of my furniture and I used the floor cleaner on this. I was so impressed with how shiny it brought it up When my mum came round she asked me if i had restained it!
Despite Mr Sheen spray & mop being a bit on the pricey side I love it. Its so convenient for small areas, I would definatly recommend it.
We have recently had some laminate flooring put down in our hallway, mainly because with two small children I thought it would be easier to keep clean than carpet. In theory, I guess it is, but I have been surprised how easily it does stain especially with muddy little footprints - and it doesn't seem to matter how much you tell them to clean their feet! It was for this reason that I was on the look out for a suitable floor cleaner. I came across the Mr Sheen which says that it cares, shines and cleans wood and laminate and thought I would give it a try!
It comes as a spray and it says it has a smell of oranges. The directions tell you to first sweep or vacuum the area of floor that you want to clean. Once you have done that you then just spray directly onto the floor and then wipe it clean with a damp cloth or mop. It does have a twisting nozzle so you won't leave it on and spray anything inadvertently. Also, as you are spraying directly on the floor there is no need for a bucket or any messy water!
When I first used this product I thought I would just spray on the aforementioned stains and use a cloth to wipe these. However, it's just as easy to spray over a larger area and use my squeezy mop to clean it. I was really impressed at how easily and effortlessly all the marks and stains came away and how clean my floor looked within a couple of seconds! It was very impressive and I was highly delighted. Also there are no smears or residue from the liquid left on the floor and it seemed to dry within seconds so ther was no need to worry about people stepping on it whilst it was still wet.
I am very happy with the cleaning power of this spray but I was a bit disappointed with the smell. I was expecting a lovely lingering citrus smell but I have to say I can hardly smell anything at all. (OK, I admit I do have a bit of a cold but normally the smell of oranges is quite strong and aromatic so I should be able to smell it!) This is a small grumble though as I would definitely rather have something that cleans and a nice smell would just be a bonus.
It is suitable for many surfaces and there is quite a long list on the bottle. These include sealed wood flooring, linoleum, vinyl, ceramic tiles, painted wood, doors and kitchen units. Having read this I tried it on a rather dirty kitchen unit door and it worked pretty well but I had to put in a bit more effort than when I was cleaning the floor. Also, just a small word of warning - it does suggest you just try this spray out on a small inconspicuous area 24 hours before you use it on your whole floor - just in case!
You can buy a 500 ml spray from Sainsburys for only £1.94. As you hardly need to spray any each time you use this - it should last a very long time which at that price makes it very good value!
