Despite having a child who is coming up to just 1 month old cleaning is still a part of my daily routine and over the years I have used various products and have never really stayed loyal to any brand. I normally buy whatever is on offer or if something has been highly recommended. Recently in my local Morrisons I picked up a can of Pledge Multi-Surface (aerosol not spray bottle) as it was on offer for just £1.00. Having run out of my other polish I thought this was a bargain and it would mean that I wouldn't need to use so many other products to clean the mirrors, windows etc. I bought the jasmine version but it is also available in original and lime.
** History **
Pledge is a company owned by SC & Johnson a huge global company which does seem to dominate the cleaning aisle of any store! Pledge is a household name and was originally a parquet flooring company back in 1886 in Wisconsin, USA and was recognised for its floor wax. The company has been owned and run by the Johnson family for five generations and is now in 70 countries worldwide.
** Pledge Multi-Surface Aerosol **
The multi surface spray is meant to provide cleaning and dust removal on all surfaces such as wood and glass. It is meant to be able to tackle those everyday marks on any surface. It also contains antistatic agents meaning you can pick up more dust without leaving streaks or marks on surfaces.
** Packaging **
The multi surface spray comes in a tall slim aerosol can which is pale blue and yellow in colour (the original version is just blue) and it has the Pledge logo on the front and small text which simply tells you what the product is. On the back is all the usual information you would expect about contact information, what is actually in the spray and warning advice such as keep out the way of children etc.
** Using the Spray **
You can either spray directly onto the surface or onto a dry cloth. I've tried both methods and I don't particularly have a favourite! I just make sure the dust is dusted off before using the spray. In my living room and dining room there is quite a lot of glass such as our TV table and I find that even using a small amount of this multi surface spray that it leaves streaks on the glass. I have tried various cloths even using newspaper to clean the glass with this spray and I'm still left with marks on the glass. Albeit the dust has completely gone and there is a slightly subtle aroma of the jasmine you can still see the streaks and I do have to resort to using a glass spray to remove these marks.
Using it on wooden surfaces such as the window sills and dining table I find this spray a dream to use as within a few strokes of the cloth the surface is clean and there is no dust in sight. The jasmine fragrance is incredibly subtle but it seems to stay in the room and on the newly cleaned area which is nice. The spray comes out as a white velvet cream type liquid which is quite a thick consistency and if it is left on a surface without immediately cleaning it will dry and leave a residue.
I also use this multi surface spray on our faux leather bedstead and also on the leather areas of our corner sofa and again they clean these areas incredibly well without leaving any marks or causing any discolouration. Pledge do say you can use the spray on TV and Hi-fi equipment but I wouldn't spray it on them directly and I simply spray a small amount onto the cloth and wipe over gently. My TV screen has however been left with a few streaks when doing it this way so I simply just use the same cloth which I have used to clean other surfaces but as it is slightly damp I can still get the TV screen clean.
** Price and Availability **
Pledge Multi-Surface Spray (aerosol version) is available at all good supermarkets and discount stores and prices may vary. The aerosol is available in three varieties; original, jasmine (which I have) and lime. For those with allergies Pledge do a dust and allergen version which removes the allergens while you dust.
Current prices for November 2010:
Tesco - £1.32
Asda - £1.40
Sainburys - £1.32
** Overall **
I really do like the multi surface spray as it does cut down the amount of products you use but I am slightly disappointed that it leaves marks on glass and I do have to resort to using another product which slightly defeats the object of the multi surface spray! You don't need to use a lot of the spray to get the surfaces clean either which means the aerosol will last for quite some considerable time but I will debate whether to buy it again just because of the streaks it leaves on the glass. Other than that it cleans the other surfaces incredibly well and seems to reduce the dust in between cleaning. Something to try at least once.
Pledge Multi Surface is great for dusting.
What I really like about it is that it suitable for using on wood, glass, electronics and metal so I only need one product to do all the dusting in my home. I have the Jasmine fragrance and it smells lovely and fresh and flowery and leaves my house smelling lovely after I have used it. It is like using an air freshner which is an added bonus. The spray nozzle is really easy to use and squirts out a good amount easily.
I paid £1 for it which is a very good price as it is a big can and has lasted for ages. I find it dusts very well and doesn't take long for me to achieve a clean streak free surface. I use it on most of my furniture including a tv cabinet which is both wood and glass and it cleans the glass as good as a window cleaner product and leaves it very shiny and with no marks. I have used it on my tv and computer and it leaves them clean and dust free but doesn't cause any marks on them or scratch the surface.
I would definately recommend this as it makes cleaning easier and quicker and you don't have to keep changing to a different product as this cleans everything.
For as long as I can remember, Pledge has been a staple part of our family cleaning. My mum used to to hand myself and my brother a duster and a bottle of Pledge every weekend and instruct us what needed cleaning! Oh the joys of cleaning! As a result, I have become somewhat of a cleaning freak myself, always dusting, vacuuming and looking for ways to get the perfect clean looking house.
Pledge have a range of products, but this polish spray is designed for use on a range of surfaces. This has helped me no end. There is nothing more annoying than using a spray for windows, a different one for work surfaces and then another for wood. Luckily, this spray promises that you can use it for all surfaces, including wood and even glass. Glass I was dubious about, as polish usually leaves streaks. In fairness, when I tested it on windows, it was not bad at all, though it did not deliver as smooth a sheen as my trusted bottle of vinegar!
It performed a lot better on skirting boards, chests of drawers and enamel surfaces. I found the best results came from bedroom equipment like stereos and racks. It has kept the dust off for a few days and collects pretty much all dusty residue with one swipe of the duster. I have even used this on my car to do the bonnet and it has worked well on that too, delivering a decent streak free shine.
A bottle cost me about two pounds and it has lasted a while. The only gripe I have is that the scent does make me sneeze, but then I am sensitive to anything in a can! I will continue to buy this though and it is just as good as Mr Sheen and pefect for all round cleaning in the home.
Description: Brand: Pledge / Surface Cleaner / Pledge Multi-Surface provides superior cleaning and dust removal on everyday marks and can be used on all surfaces from wood to glass.
I am not a fan of housework and can think of a million things that I would rather be doing with my spare time. Having said that, I do like my house to be clean, fresh and tidy and obviously, this won't happen without me putting the work in! In order to try and keep the place looking like I want it to with the minimum fuss and hassle, I try to use products which make the job easier and have found that this polish from Pledge is a tried and trusted favourite.
The benefit of this polish is that it can be used on most surfaces, eliminating the need for using different cleaners for wood, metal, glass etc. This also makes it cheaper as when shopping, you only have to buy one product instead of two or three.
A 250ml can of this multi surface cleaner will cost in the region of £2 per can although I recently found it on offer for just £1 in a local supermarket (and then proceeded to snap up three cans since it was such a bargain!) and comes in a light blue tin.
The fragrance is really pleasant to, it is lime scented which makes it a little bit different to most other polishes where no matter what scent they claim to have, they all smell the same - of furniture polish! This one is light and fresh and leaves rooms smelling as well as looking great.
To use, simply spray on and then wipe with a clean cloth. The product genuinely does leave all surfaces sparkling clean and whether you are using it on windows, tables and sideboards or electrical items, you are sure to be impressed by the results.
If like me, you used to buy separate cleaning products for around your home, then this is something that you should definitely try. It works well on all surfaces and leaves your home smelling deliciously fresh, what more could you ask for!
I didn't know this existed until just recently, whilst browsing in the pound shop I saw pledge multi surface cleaner in the dusting isle. I have been after something that I can use to dust with that is suitable for surfaces that are not wood, to be honest I didn't think it even existed, so when I saw this for £1 I snapped it up.
It comes in a 250ml canister, which stands roughly just under 30cm tall, and is made from some form of metal.
On the front of the can there are small pictures of what it can be used on and these include:
The can is mainly blue in colour and the has a nice big picture of a lime on the front (as it has a lime fragrance)
You will then find on the back is all the information on how to use and other safety precautions you must adhere to.
To use, simply shake the can for 5 seconds and hold the can around 6 inches away from the area you want to clean, you then push down on the nozzle at the top of the can and hold until you have the desired amount on the area you wish to clean, or alternatively you can spray it onto a cloth first.
For best results you should polish immediately with a soft cloth.
It is advised that you do not use this on floors because it will make them very slippery to walk on and you could easily fall over.
With it being in a canister you must keep it out of direct sunlight and away from flames as it could ignite or explode, it is also equally important that you keep it out of reach pf children.
So, does it work?
Yes, with normal dusting I just find that I wipe away the dust and within half an hour is settles back down again, with Pledge, the dust sticks to your cloth and remains dust free
I really like the fragrance and it doesn't really smell of a polish, and does smell a lot like limes which leaves your house smelling fresh and clean, its really leave a lovely citrus smell around the house.
I also found that as a polish it works very well and works on almost anything, it brings my windows up sparkling and clean and cleans my TV stand beautifully and best of all it doesn't leave any marks!
I am so glad I found this product and I will continue to use it.
One of my favourite pastimes is cleaning. I'm not joking honest! I'm an absolute maniac and have been known to cancel dates and going out with my mates in favour of de-gunking my bedroom! I love cleaning products as much as I love my toiletries and so when I saw this (usual price £2.29 a can) reduced to £1.00 in my local Sainsbury's store I really liked the idea of a can of multi-surface cleaner for some reason and the price swung it for me too! I rally do love me bargains after-all lol.
Well the can I have in front of me is dark blue with a large integrated plastic push button sprayer to the top of it. On the front I'm told it's Pledge Multi Surface Polish 'Clean & Dust' and gives a Streak-Free Shine and that this one is scented with Jasmine and it's suitable for metal, electronics, glass and wood and is a Johnson & Johnson product. On the back of the can I'm told a bit about the product, cautions and warnings are given, ingredients are listed, the recycle symbol and the bar-code is displayed. Nice enough can and very large and as far as I'm aware this is the only size this product is available in to purchase so offers great value for money and you don't need to be heavy handed with this at all to get brill results.
Me Using It....
Well I picked this up thinking it was a furniture product only because it looked like regular cans of furniture polish! I have alot of wood to buff up in bedroom and I normally buy any furniture polish and gently wipe over metal, electronics and everything anyway and usually find it to be ok but it takes a little work to remain smear free of course.
However you use this in the same way as furniture polish and it's designed to be used anywhere really apart from windows of course.
I spray a little of the highly fragranced Jasmine polish direct to wood or onto a cloth if going near electrics, metal or glass etc. It sprays out rather fast, white and slightly frothy/foamy and you simply wipe it till gone. No scrubbing is required with this as it's quite wet opposed to fine and I just gently wipe off grease, grime and dirt with my cloth until satisfied. The only thing I would say is to be careful going near glass and only use a small amount as it is quite greasy but work with it and it gives great results.
It polishes wood beautifully and is great on everything! Fuss free to use it really does cut through dirt and lifts it with ease and leaves where you have cleaned shiny and fragranced for a good couple of hours too!
This is a great buy and it's nice to need to purchase less products and you don't have to watch what your doing and where you touch with this which is great. I found this to really deter dust for a good few days whilst leaving the area looking fresh and clean. This makes cleaning alot easier in my opinion and is a product I will re-buy without a doubt!
