I don’t normally watch home shopping channels, but for some reason at round 6.15am almost every channel on German TV is taken over by infomercials. It was while eating my cornflakes one morning that I first heard about this product. Similar to Oxi Clean, another home shopping favourite, Quick n Brite is marketed as “an amazing, multi purpose household cleaner, guaranteed to save you money while giving you a wonderfully clean home in the process”. Despite the glowing recommendation, I wouldn’t have bought it over the phone, not least because their “super money saving package”, including lotion, paste, specially “mixing pot” and lots more costs around 50 Euros. But, they started selling the basic pots of Quick n Brite cleaner in one of the shops near me, and for about a fiver I figured it was worth a go. The stuff comes in a plastic container with a lid, much like you might use to store stuff in in the kitchen. I don’t know what I was expecting it would be like inside, but certainly not the pink wax it turned out to be. That’s right: wax (though they call it by the less worrying term “paste”). Something normally associated with causing stains rather than removing them. The instructions were not at all clear, so I waited until I was in work the next day and printed some others off the website (given below). Basically for most purposes you need to melt the wax in a microwave or on a hob, and mix it with the right amount of water. What they don’t tell you, however, is that warm wax and room temperature water don’t really mix well, so you need to warm some water up at the same time to stop it solidifying almost immediately when you mix the two. I found this a bit tricky the first few times, and even now I’m used to it, I still see the whole process as a bit of a pain. Also, the strength of the solution you mix up varies depending on the material you are going to use
it on, and the stain involved, so you can’t just make up a huge batch and whiz round using it in every room of your house. Quick n Brite is marketed as being multi purpose, and indeed that’s what I’ve found it to be. It has worked so far on everything I’ve tried in on, including: - Removing drops of olive oil from my favourite top - Getting rid off unidentifiable marks from the carpet that have been there since before I moved into the flat - Cleaning my windows without leaving them stripy or smudged (hands up who’s proud of me – I’m practically still a teenager and I cleaned my windows. Twice! Without anyone having to tell me to.) - Vanishing away random marks in my shower (blue, but not mould – any ideas?) and generally leaving the whole bathroom bright and sparkling - Polishing up my kitchen, de-gunking the hob and making the whole place shine The wax is semi-good for the environment in that it is biodegradable and non-toxic. Also, it doesn’t harm your skin, so you don’t need to wear gloves when using it to clean. The only danger I could see is that if you over heat it, the wax might get uncomfortably hot. It’s an unusual cleaner in that it is safe to use all over the house, including where children or pets might get at it. Obviously you shouldn’t go out of your way to feed them the stuff, but if there’s a bit lying around and they swallow it, they won’t die. It has no odour to speak of, and a 20 year shelf life (supposedly), both bonus points with household cleaners. It’s a useful product, but not the miracle one it’s portrayed as being on the informericals (no surprise there). It is effective, and it’s not that expensive (I think Asda have a reasonable sized tub for a fiver in most stores) but the preparation and detailed instructions are a hassle, especially if all you’re after is a
quick fix stain remover. I’ll use up the tub I have, but I’m not sure whether I’d bother with it again. https://www.quicknbrite.com/

Some time ago, my partner bought this product from the QVC shopping channel and came in for a great deal of stick from myself and our friends! For a couple of years the product sat in a cupboard under the sink gathering dust. When we moved house and inherited a grease-encrusted oven the 'Quick and Bright' got its first opportunity to prove its worth. A large tub of solid pink 'stuff' it looks quite innocuous but when lathered up it turns into a grease-busting animal! This pink slime ate its way through years of solidified fat in minutes. It is easy to apply and does not smell at all unpleasant. My deep fat fryer has been sat in the garage for ages because I cannot get the grease off – well, three guesses what Quick & Bright’s next job is!! The tub will last for years as not much is needed to obtain a decent lather. Also in the package came 2 bottles of liquid Q & B with an empty bottle complete with spray top for cleaning bathrooms, kitchens … well, anywhere you want to clean I suppose. You simply dilute the solution according to the instructions and fire away. It can also clean blood stains and you can use it clean the car, the patio, in fact absolutely anything and is also environmentally friendly. I have been extremely impressed with this product and would recommend it to anyone. The only place other than QVC that I have found to buy this product is the web site below but it would be well worth the effort! http://www.tvadvertisedproducts.com/online-store/housewares/quicknbrite.html
