“ Brand: Sainsbury's / Type: All Purpose Cleaner / Subcategory: Cleaning Spray / Category: Cleaning & Disinfectant „
I normally used Dettol antibacterial surface spray but as I'm always looking for ways to save a few pence here and there I thought I would try Sainsbury's own brand antibacterial spray cleaner.
750ml of the Dettol variety costs £2.99, equating to £3.99 per litre.
The Sainsbury's product is sold in two sizes - 500ml at a cost of £1.40 = £2.80 per litre. The larger 750ml costs £1.60 resulting in a bargain price of £2.13 per litre. Much more cost effective I'm sure you'll agree.
The spray is sold on a clear plastic trigger action bottle. It is simply packaged with a blue label on the front. Red and white text displays the Sainsbury's logo and the name of the product. A white label is on the reverse explaining instructions for use and other product information.
In order to spray the product, the nozzle must be twisted to 'on' before depressing the trigger to release the spray. The spray is released quite forcefully covering a fairly large area - it coats around two thirds of my standard size four ring hob.
Instructions for use are simple. Spray desired surface and then wipe with a clean dry paper towel.
I have to admit, I don't follow the above! I spray the area and leave for a couple of minutes contact time. I then wipe over with a clean damp cloth. If I'm being really good, I'll dry off with a clean dry tea towel but usually leave to dry naturally.
The spray works really well as a cleaner, effective on grease and removes stubborn marks and stains with the help of a little elbow grease.
I use it in both the kitchen and bathroom and also on my sons high chair - it here that it receives it's greatest test!!
The spray doesn't have much of an aroma other than an unintrusive fresh, clean smell.
The cleaning power combined with the antibacterial properties make this product an excellent buy.
The packaging states that it its use can protect against salmonella, listeria, MRSA, E.Coli and also kills Influenza H1N1.
Composition Amongst other ingredients
Less than 5% Non-ionic Surfactant, Disinfectant, Perfume.
This product will certainly remain on my shopping list. At £1.86 cheaper per litre than Dettol, I believe I have found the perfect, safe, all round general cleaning spray.
Why pay much more for a product which does exactly the same thing as this cheaper version of many of the branded products which is just as good quality as the more expensive ones. I have been using the Sainsbury's Antibacterial Spray Cleaner for several years now, and it really does the job just as well as many of the branded products do. I switched to this product from using Flash branded products because of it's much cheaper price and I haven't looked back since.
I use the spray to clean absolutely everything, from the bath and the toilet through to the kitchen worktops and even our wooden placemats. The spray works really well. It cuts through grease and grime, even the dried on residue on the oven when a saucepan boils over, and it leaves my worktops gleaming. It even copes with the difficult task of polishing up our stainless steel worktop in our kitchen and leaving it shining and mark free and anyone who has stainless steel in their kitchen will know how hard it is to get a good finish!
Now since I don't have a microscope I cannot vouch for it's antibacterial powers other then saying that whilst using the Sainsbury's antibacterial cleaner, we have never been ill with food poisoning or anything else, so I assume it is doing it's job correctly.
The cleaner comes in a clear plastic bottle so you can see how much you have left which is really useful. It actually lasts for a very long time because you don't need much of the cleaner at all. A few sprays will clean the entire kitchen worktop surface or the bath. As I am sure you suspect since it is called a "spray cleaner", the bottle has a spray top lid, which works really well and covers quite a wide area when you use it.
Price wise, this product is fantastically priced compared to some of the more expensive brands. At £0.98 a time, you can't go wrong. A fabulous price for a fabulous product.
Overall I give the Sainsbury's antibacterial spray cleaner a 10/10. It is a fabulous product that does exactly what it is supposed to do at a very high standard. I will never go back to using a more expensive product after having used this cleaner.
- Packaging -
This comes in a transparent, plastic bottle with a very simple blue sticker on the front and a matching blue nozzle just as the picture shows.
The nozzle has a handle attached to it which when pulled inwards, dispenses the spray. At the end of the nozzle there is a square section which can be turned on to an 'on' or 'off' setting. Given that I don't have any little ones in the house who could get their little mits on this product, mine tends to stay on the 'on' section. However this feature is good for those of you with young children in the house as it means that they can't 'accidentally' spray any of this on to themselves.
- Price & Availability -
Given that this is a Sainsbury's product, no surprises that it can only be purchased from them!
At the cost of 88p for 500ml it is considerably cheaper than other anti-bacterial sprays such as Dettol which are in the £1.70+ price bracket.
- What does it promise? -
~ Cuts through grease and grime
~ No added colouring
~ Gives antibacterial protection against Salmonella, Listeria and E-coli
- What can it be used on? -
Not surprisingly this can be used on any washable surface and the packaging also suggests that it can be used on high chairs and baby equipment. It also states that you should allow the surface to dry prior to any food preparation.
- My Experience -
I like the smell of this, it has quite a strong scent to it which is fine by me as when I use spray cleaners I like the place to not only look but smell as if it has been cleaned!
This is a clear liquid and the spray dispenses it really well over the surface that is waiting to be cleaned.
In terms of it's ability to clean surfaces, it is fine on areas that aren't really that dirty, e.g. bench areas with a few crumbs on etc but as far as grease is concerned, e.g. on the hob after frying then it falls a bit short of other sprays that I have used. It appears to be far less effective with 'real' grease and grime and my areas don't even get that bad as I'm a bit fanatical about cleaning benches etc.
As far as it's anti-bacterial abilities are concerned, since I can't see the germs and bacteria etc I can't comment on it's effectiveness in this area although I am sure that they couldn't market it as such if they weren't sure that it has such abilities - well I hope not, anyway!
So overall, this is a competitively priced, good smelling, spray cleaner which is ideal for cleaning surfaces that aren't too dirty or have 'caked' on, dried up, food substances, splashes etc on them. If that is what you are looking for then it's considerably cheaper than other branded anti-bacterial sprays. The negative to the product is that it isn't very efficient on grease or 'real' dirt!
Sainsburys antibacterial cleaner
Given that I do most of my shopping at Sainsbury's, it is inevitable that I buy most of my cleaning products from the store.
This one promises to offer antibacterial protection against Salmonalla, Listeria and E-coli. All of this protection comes combined with effective cleaning power which will apparently cut through grease and grime.
PRODUCT AND PACKAGING
The clear product comes in a 500ml plastic bottle with a spray nozzle. There is a cap which can be closed when not in use, which just has to be pressed down to stop the product being accidentally sprayed. When the product is sprayed, it comes out as a fine spray and does indeed have an antibacterial smell. It makes things smell clean but not in a scented way, more of a disinfected way.
The product has no added colours and is safe to use on all washable kitchen and bathroom surfaces. It can also be used on highchairs and baby equipment.
To use it, naturally the front cover protecting the spray nozzle has to be opened. Turn the nozzle into the open position and spray the surface which has to be cleaned. The surface should be left to dry before food is prepared.
*Keep out of the reach of children
*Avoid contact with skin and eyes and do not inhale the product
*Avoid contact with baby bottles and don't use as a sterilising agent.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
Available online at www.sainsbury.co.uk and in store. The product costs 88p for 500ml which I think is great value
The product is made for sainsburys Supermarkets, 33 Holburn Road, London. Customer Services can be contacted on 0800636262.
This product is reasonably priced and easy to use. It makes surfaces smell really clean and fresh which is good, and is quite an effective cleaning agent although I don't know that I would fancy its chances if there was lots of grease and grime to cut through. I can't vouch for the fact that it does offer protection against those nasty germs because I can't see them; it does however smell as though it is disinfecting things, so I will take it as a given.
A recommended cleaning product for anyone wanting an anti bacterial cleaner.
