“ Brand: Sainsbury's / Type: Toilet Cleaner / Category: Cleaning & Disinfectant „
I am currently having a cull on spending unnecessary money, and so now whenever I go shopping I make it my main aim to get things as cheap as possible without compromising quality to an extent where its not even worth the low value. I had used Wilkinsons brand of toilet cleaner in the past which was only 27p and great, so when in Sainsburys I spotted their version for 30p and decided to give it a go!
The packaging is really simple, it comes in a plain white bottle, with the typical orange label showing that it is of the Basic range. It has the usual type spout of a neck, with an orange lid which gives easy access for the liquid to be dispensed around the rim of the toilet bowl - making my job much easier!
The toilet cleaner itself is a green liquid, and here is where I notice the different in quality compared to Harpic which I used to predominantly use in the past. The liquid is a really thin, pale green consistency and so looks very diluted and I end up pouring quite an ample amount around the toilet bowl, doing at least 2 rounds, whereas with more name brand toilet cleaners I can easily get away with just pouring a little squirt out to do the job effectively.
Nevertheless, I am more than happy to use this product as I have found it quite efficient for cleaning limescale and stains and leaving the toilet fresh and clean. It is recommended on the bottle to leave this for 2 hours or overnight, though I usually opt for over night as I can wake up in the morning and not think about cleaning it as it normally has pretty much cleaned itself!
The pine fresh scent is lovely, although again very mild and doesn't hit you as strongly as a branded name would. Leaving it in the loo overnight, the bathroom and toilet still has the smell in the morning, so it definitely is long lasting which is good value.
A 750ml bottle of this toilet cleaner costs only 30p from Sainsburys and the one I currently have is about 75% finished and I have had it for 2 weeks now. To me this is quite reasonable, as I don't clean the toilet every night, usually alternate nights (or when I remember!) so this is great value for money. It works well, and it saves me a fortune so I certainly would recommend it!
=Sainsbury's Basics Liquid Toilet Cleaner=
Last year when we were on holiday I realised I had not packed any toilet cleaner, and Sainsburys was our nearest Supermarket, I brought a bottle of the Basics Liquid Toilet Cleaner.
The bottle is a thick plastic, and has a screw off cap, similar to most toilet cleaners. The bottle is a white bottle and the label is the Sainsburys Basic logo and the information regarding the Bleach is all wrote in the Orange as in all the basics range.
The cleaner is a green colour, it is thinner compared to other toilet cleaners, but then this is a basics range and for 29p for a 750ml bottle, I can't hold that against the bottle.
I find that when I squeeze under the rim, the liquid comes out easily, it does not drip and covers the area well. The smell is that of a mild pine tree.
With the liquid being thinner I find that I did use a bit more than i would do normally.
Once the toilet has been brushed through and flushed, I was surprised that the toilet did look cleaner and it still smelt of pine. It is a fresh smell, and stays around for about an hour.
=Would I recommend=
This is an ok bleach, it is not one that I would use for an everyday purchase, but I keep a bottle at home, in case I run out of the one that I normally use, so that I have one available. I buy a bottle for when I am on holidays as I can leave it there for the next person.
Although it is a basic product, it is one of the better basic products and does a good job, and is value for money. For anyone trying to save a few pennies this is a product to buy.
This is available from Sainsburys stores or as part of their on-line ordering.
With the prices at Tesco increasing at an alarming rate in addition to most of my regular purchases being constantly out of stock, I decided to try Sainsbury's for a change. Whilst I consider myself to be a savvy shopper, I don't generally opt for value branded cleaning products, as past experience has evidenced to me that they do not effectively carry out the job. However, as I rarely shop at Sainsbury's I decided to try out their Basics Liquid Toilet Cleaner and this review discusses my thoughts.
Appearance wise the 750 ml sturdy plastic bottle screams value product and is totally unappealing to the eye with its plain white background and label adorned with the familiar rather dreary Sainsbury's Basics logo. I must admit that following my purchase I was of the opinion that the product wouldn't be up to scratch, particularly as there is no mention of the word limescale. However, as directed, I removed the childlock cap and whilst this was an easy enough task for me, a child would encounter some problems, so it serves its purpose well. The packaging has been updated from the image provided by Dooyoo, as there is now a sufficiently angled dispenser, which enabled me to easily direct the product around the toilet bowl and under the rim.
Despite this being a basics product, I was pleasantly surprised at the consistency of the product and instead of the watery liquid that I anticipated, I witnessed a reasonable consistency of vivid green. The toilet cleaner offered a clean and fresh pine aroma whilst not being overpowering, which is often the case with some of the cheaper brands, which can emit a rather potent scent. Unfortunately, the scent vanished within seconds of application, which disappointed me, as I favour my toilets offering that just cleaned smell. As directed, I left the liquid in the toilet for the two hours before flushing and for the first couple of days with using the product on a daily basis, I was of the opinion that it was carrying out a reasonable enough job. However, by day three limescale was beginning to appear directly below the waterline and as a result I had to revert back to my usual Domestos cleaner, which effectively removed the stubborn stains.
Whilst my initial impressions were fairly good, I was not happy with the results and I will not compromise with cleaning products, particularly on areas that harbour germs. In order not to waste the remainder of the product I used it a couple of hours after I had applied a quality product, so the vivid green liquid gave a clean and fresh appearance to the loo as opposed to anything else. As the 750 ml bottle cost me only 27p, I don't feel I can grumble, particularly as there were no miracle claims of preventing limescale, but this is a not a purchase I will be making again. I feel a one star rating is appropriate, as the cleaner smells fresh although it is short lived and it offers a good consistency, but unfortunately, it fails on every other aspect.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
With money being tight (as it is for the majority of us at the moment!) I am always on the lookout for cheaper cleaning products as I get through so many of them. At the same time though I don't want rubbish and ineffective stuff of course however I am more than willing to try products out such as this when they only cost 27p a bottle I can tell you!
I don't normally shop in Sainsbury's. I usually do my shopping in Asda or if I fancy a change Tesco with the odd bits and bobs coming from Aldi, Marks & Spencers, Morrison's or Waitrose as I love to shop and mooch about and grab bargains and things that are on offer in the main.
However my best mate drives and she likes Sainsbury's and Morrison's the best and so the other day whilst we were out she needed to grab a few things so I found myself with little in mind to buy just looking at the cleaning products and at the price it cost and knowing I was ruining out back at home of such a productbI picked myself a bottle up to try.
The bottle is very cheap looking and very distinctive within the Sainsbury's Basics branded product range. It is a white plastic bottle with a nozzle style head to the top of it with a twist and squeeze red safety cap/lid to the top of it and then on the front of the bottle which is bright orange and white in colour scheme we are told that it is Sainsbury's Basics Liquid Toilet Cleaner and directions for use are given as are warnings , the size is stated which is 750ml and the only size I have ever seen this to purchase in by the way, the ingredients are listed and contact details for Sainsbury's are given. Like I say there is no getting away from the fact that this is a cheap to buy product as it looks a cheap product but the bottle does contain all the information on it you should need and you can always hide it or decant it into another bottle if you feel the shame of owning it lol.
Well this is a toilet cleaner, and that is all its designed to be and its easy to use. The liquid is dark green and transparent with a fresh and rather hefty fragrance of pine to it which is actually really nice and rather strong without being breathtaking and all you do is direct it under the toilet rim and leave it for at least 2 hours or overnight if you prefer which is what I usually do.
Now on the bottle we are not told what this should do apart from helping to remove stubborn stains. No where on it are we promised that it kills germs or anything however on the ingredient list on the bottle one of the ingredients listed in it is disinfectant so I do trust it is meant to banish germs at least somewhat.
Easy to use, I use plenty of it mainly at night simply for extra freshness really. It does make my loo and my little room smell nice actually for the duration I have it in my toilet bowl and it does make my loo easier to clean but I still need to manually wipe it or use a toilet brush...... this doesn't clean all by itself.
What I appreciate about this product most though is its odour neutralising capabilities. Toilets can get less than smelling lovely eh considering what they are after all and who wants a smelly bog? Well you don't have to anymore with this only costing 27p a bottle eh!
This does also make my toilet look clean and feel it and although I have no idea if it kills germs or anything I'm pretty sure it helps to keep my toilet fresher for longer and that's good enough for me!
Only available from Sainsbury's stores.

I do not mind buying a shops own brand of toilet cleaner for my home. I am lucky enough to have more than one toilet in my home and so I use more toilet cleaners to clean them. Shops own brands are very cheap to buy and this one is one that I buy often to save money.
The cleaner is housed in a thick plastic bottle and it has a screw off cap. The nozzle is a good size. It easily can be placed under the rim of the toilet with no problems. The cleaner is a nice green colour and it flows well from the bottle because it has a nice consistency and is not too runny. It does not drip from the bottle or come out of it too fast as some tend to do, or shoot and make a mess of the toilet bowl. It is however it is not as thick as a branded one but that is expected with a cheaper brand but it is a good one for the price.
It has a nice smell to it and it smells of pine and smells really refreshing and clean. It does not smell at all nasty or unpleasant. It just smells of pine but with a little extra fragrance. The bottle is easy to squeeze to release the cleaner. I do find I do not use much more than what I use with a branded one, maybe just a little bit more because it is not as thick. It clings well onto the toilet bowl and it flushes well indeed. It cleans the toilet well too and I am happy with both the clean toilet and the fragrance of it. The smell also lingers in the toilet for quite some time after flushing. I thought it would just clean a toilet and leave no fresh smell after flushing but this is not the case, I can smell it in the bathroom well after flushing it.
I thought this one would be a complete waste of money when I first bought it but I could not have been more wrong. It is a nice cleaner and worth the price. The bottle is a good size of 750ml and it is priced at around 27p so a really cheap cleaner. I think it is excellent value for money and a really good quality.
I recommend this cleaner for anyone trying to save a little money. It works well to clean the toilet and it is one that I will keep on buying because it is a good cleaner.
I rate this one 5 stars.
Sainsbury's make a fantastic toilet cleaner for only 24p and it is in their Basic range. It is packaged very plainly and simply in white and orange with no pretty pictures on the front of the sturdy plastic bottle. The bottle contains 750ml of liquid which when you finally manage to get the top open (it is difficult to get the flip top lid up and a bit fiddly, I think) you will see that it smells really nice of fresh outdoors and pine forests. I personally love the smell of this but I know some people are not too keen on pine smells in the home.
The smell is not too overpowering and you do not have to open a window for ventilation but it is strong enough to see that it will do a great job. I always think it actually smells like it is doing a good job at cleaning.
We spray it round the inside of the toilet bowl on a night before we go to bed and just leave it until the following morning. When we flush the loo the next day it is obvious that all the nasty marks have gone and the toilet is left looking nd smeling really lovely and fresh and clean and sparkling as the day we bought it.
This is really very impressive stuff for the price. It clings to the side of the toilet bowl and it is not too thin, in fact we were both very surprised and remarked over tea at how thick the liquid is and what a great job we thought it would do during the night while we slept.
We were not wrong. Fantastic product and works a treat.

I have recently tried out the Sainsbury's Basics Liquid Toilet Cleaner and this is my review.
I have tried out a few of the products in the Sainsbury's Basics range and thought that some of them were very good value for money but other items were to basic for me and I would not buy them again. All of the items in the Sainsbury's Basics range have very plain packaging which is a white background with orange writing and it gives a very plain basic look to the products. This does not put me of to much as I am more bothered about what the items are like and am not to bothered about the packet they come in.
The Sainsbury's Basics Liquid Toilet Cleaner comes in a plain white plastic bottle which can be recycled which is good for me cos I like to do my bit for the environment.
The bottle is 750ml in size and I only paid 27 pence for the bottle which I think is great value. The toilet cleaner I usually buy costs me around 90 pence so I was pleased to save some money when I chose to buy the Sainsbury's cleaner instead of the one I usually buy.
The Sainsbury's Basics liquid toilet cleaner is pine fragranced and I thought the smell was very strong. I could smell the pine fragrance as soon as I took the lid of the bottle. I thought the smell was alright but it was very strong and it felt like it was catching in my throat when I was using it. It passed after a minute or so and this is something that I think happens with most bathroom cleaner products when I am using them. I think it is cos of the strong chemicals and cleaning agents that they have in them.
The toilet cleaner is a bright green colour and this is what I expected it to be like and most other pine toilet cleaners that I have used before have been a green colour too. It was easy to squirt the liquid around the inside of the toilet and there is a little hole on the red lid on top of the bottle so the liquid comes out of there easily and it is not to thick. I leave the liquid for an hour or two then scrub it around the bowl then I flush the toilet to rinse it off. After I have rinsed it off the toilet bowl looks very clean and shiny so I think the Sainsbury's Basics cleaner is good at doing what it says it will do and I thought it worked well and left my toilet nice and shiny. The bright green liquid has never left a stain or mark on my toilet bowl and it rinses off easily and I was pleased about that otherwise it would have meant more work for me to clean the toilet bowl.
I thought the Sainsbury's Basics Toilet Cleaner spread around the bowl easily so I did not need to use to much of the liquid each time I cleaned the toilet so the 750ml bottle will last me quite a long time. I use bleach on my toilet bowl every couple of days to kill germs so by using both products on my toilet bowl I know that it looks clean and smells fresh and I have killed any germs and bacteria that are in the bowl.
I would suggest giving the Sainsbury's Basics Toilet Cleaner a try out and I will buy it again as I thought it was a very good cleaner product and it cost me less than 30 pence so I think it is a good way to save a bit of money on your shopping bill.
I started buying this toilet cleaner last year as my eldest cat at the time was very ill and needed treatment. I had used it a couple of times previously and knew it was affordable at the time for my lower budget so I could pay for the very high vet bills for my eldest cat at the time. I had bought more than one to stock them in my cupboard and so I recently began using this cleaner again.
It comes in a white, thick very sturdy plastic bottle, it is in the usual colours of Orange and White for the Basics range of product. It only cost me 27p for a 750ml bottle from Sainsbury's Basics range of products and so a very good price for the amount in the bottle. The top of the bottle has a pull back bar that is the nozzle to pour the liquid into the toilet, it has a tiny hole for the liquid to pour easily from the bottle into the toilet. The liquid is green in colour, it is also a nice gel of which I like, However the consistency of this one is a little thinner than the branded ones on the market. It does tend to come out of the bottle a little faster too and so it is wise to be more careful when pouring into the toilet and not to be heavy handed while using it.
It is easy to place the nozzle under the rim of the toilet and to squeeze from the bottle, the bottle is a nice slim line design and one that I can easily hold. I tend to just squeeze this one very gently and I then have no problems at all. It has a really nice fragrance for the cheap price and it smells of pine. The smell is quite a pleasant one and quite perfumy.
It cleans the toilet very well and leaves it smelling nice and fresh. It does also cling to the bowl of the toilet extremely well, I did not expect it to cling so well when I first bought it but I was amazed how well a job it did for my toilet.
It tend to leave it for a couple of hours before I actually flush the toilet. I have left it over night and the next day it has rinsed perfectly from the toilet and also it has had the same effect when used for a couple of hours.
The only down side to this cleaner is it does not attack the limescale as a branded one does in the toilet but for the price it is expected not to fully have all the ingredients to work on limescale but apart from that it is a really good, cheap cleaner in my opinion.
The bottle sits nicely inside a cupboard and takes very little room, I would say to remember to push the top back after every use because I once had forgotten to replace it and I tipped it over onto my bathroom floor and because the consistency is a little weaker, the liquid poured over my floor and since I did not know I had tipped it over, it took was all over the floor when I returned to the room and so I made extra work for myself having to clean it from the floor.
A little does go a very long way and the quality is very good, it is also very good value for the price in my opinion. I just think it is a give away price and one that can be bought to try and does not cost the earth and if it is one that you do not like, then you have not wasted a lot of money. It is also a handy price if you have more than one toilet or one to place in a en suite if you are lucky enough to have one, of which I'm not lol. It can be costly buying lots of different cleaners if you have more than one toilet and also if you have a large family and tend to use a lot of cleaners.
It leaves a nice fragrance in the bathroom after using it and it smells nice and refreshing just how I like my bathroom to smell after cleaning my toilet. It disinfects too and kills those nasty germs in a toilet. It works and gives me the results I expect from a toilet cleaner and I highly recommend this one for anyone who is trying to save money or on a lower budget as I do not think you would be disappointed with this cleaner at all.
It is one that I will certainly not hesitate to buy in the future as it is one that I really do like for my toilet.
I give it 5 stars.
Thank you for reading my review and I hope it has been of some help.
Sainsburys basics toilet cleaner
I seem to be buying a lot of the basics products at the moment and on the whole am finding them good value for money and usually as effective as some of the more pricey products.
WHAT IS THIS?
As the name suggests this is a toilet cleaner which promises to clean (and no added promises). So, I don't have to read through the blurb telling me the wondrous things this will do- it cleans and that's what I want it to do!
PRODUCT AND PACKAGING...
As with all of the Basics range, the packaging is very basic and this is no exception. Plain white 750ml plastic bottle with a red lid and a pull up/push down spout. The instructions and information are on a label on the front of the bottle and again these are very basic and to the point. It tells me what the product does- cleans, and gives a few warnings. I actually like the fact that it's very plain and non wordy.
The instructions tell me to direct around the bowl and under the rim, leave for two hours or overnight and then flush. When I squirt some of the product all I have to do is apply some light pressure and out it comes. I is very easy to direct and doesn't tend to squirt about randomly. The product itself is, as I expected for a toilet cleaner, green and does have a nice fresh pine smell. It is quite thick which helps to direct it but when it hits the toilet it's not so thick that it just sits and congeals, but rather runs nicely down the toilet bowl, thereby cleaning the whole lot.
These type of products always come with warning (usually similar) and this is no exception:
* Keep away from children and pets especially as it's not child proof
* Use only in toilet bowl
* If it gets in contact with eyes wash immediately, ditto skin
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY...
Available instore and online at www.sainsburys.co.uk, this costs a meagre 24p. Fantastic- I love a bargain!
Once again, this value product hasn't let me down. After use the toilet smells clean and fresh and if you like a pine smell then it's a winner. The liquid is easy to direct, and I find that after flushing there are no green streaks around the toilet bowl as I have found with more expensive products.
It does promise only to clean although I tend to use it after cleaning the toilet for added freshness, but there is no disinfectant in it, so for those who prefer bleach, then this won't be good.
The fact that it cleans I take on trust, but all in all a great product at a very very cheap price- can't grumble at that.
Thanks for reading
