Luckily, most of the new flat has carpeted flooring so there isn't much need for sweeping. However, our small kitchen does have a wooden floor and when cooking, it is prone to getting crumbs and flour etc. on it. For this, we needed a dustpan and brush and again, Sainsbury's was our choice of shop for it. Usually we still hoover this part of the floor but sometimes it needs a quick sweep first. This dustpan and brush set comes in either white or silver and we opted for silver as most of our other kitchen accessories are this colour. Both the dustpan and handle of the brush are made from plastic which seemed quite tough on first appearances. The handle of the brush is wrapped in a material which makes it possible to grip it easily so it won't slip out of your hands. I thought that this was a great feature on such a cheap product. The bristles of the brush are quite hard but again, this is something that makes the product durable. The dustpan also has a rubber strip on the edge. The dustpan isn't overly large so you cannot clean up a massive mess all at once with it but the size definitely serves my needs. By using the brush, I can clean my kitchen floor easily and unlike most cheap dustpans, this one doesn't miss bits. Sometimes the edge of the dustpan can be slightly raised so when sweeping dirt onto it, it will go underneath but that isn't the case with this product. The fact that the edge of the dustpan touches the floor is what would make me buy this product again should mine ever break. It annoys the hell out of me when you sweep the floor then only have to go over it with a hoover because you can't get all of the bits up. The bristles of the brush are another thing which help to sweep up properly. As they are made from a thick but soft plastic and are very close together, there isn't much chance for bits to get caught up in the bristles. The bristles are also soft enough that they won't scratch your flooring but still tough enough to do the job they were meant for. I find that this brush is really good for both big and small pieces of dirt on the floor instead of just the larger bits. For only £1.50, this is a great every day household product. It seems as though it will last quite well but I know eventually I will have to replace the brush. For the price I paid though, I don't mind this at all as the product is well worth the money. Sainsbury's range of household goods are impressing me more and more each time.
I do not use a dustpan as much as I used to use it as the whole of my house was wooden flooring but now only 2 rooms in my house have wooden flooring so I tend to sweep up with a large brush and brush the pieces on the dust plan to clear it away as it is a lot easier than using a vacuum on wooden flooring. It comes in the colour white which was the only colour available at my store but I do not mind that anyway as it shows the dirt well making it easier to clean. The pan and brush handle are both made of really strong plastic considering the price of them and so are really durable and can be used well without the worry they may snap or break. The bristles of the brush are not too hard and this makes it easy to brush the pieces up without worrying about scratching any of the flooring. The brush and pan are an average size what you would expect with most sets but the handle of the brush is a little shorter and thinner than I am used to it still sits comfortably in my hand and I can still get the job done it just takes a little getting used to really. Normally I find with cheap dust pan and brushes the seal of the pan is too high so when you sweep the dust into the pan it completely misses the ridge that helps it up on to the pan and hides underneath which is really annoying as it takes ages to pick all the muck up and even after a good 5 minutes of trying to get it on to the pan there are still pieces sitting on the floor so I have to get the vacuum cleaner out. With this the ridge of the pan sits really well on the floor and is at a perfect angle to build a ramp for the pieces to move up and on to the pan so you can easily brush the pieces up without it getting trapped underneath. It works well and picks up the small pieces I need to get rid of with no problem at all the brush is small but still a convenient size to both hold in my hand and clean up with and it gets the job done which I purchased it for so I can not complain. The bristles are really close together and there I a fair few of them so it picks up all the pieces easily and a lot of them in one sweep which is great as it makes the job less time consuming. The brush clicks in to the handle of the pan which means it can be stored very easily not taking up too much room and it means the pan and brush are always in one place together which makes it convenient when it is time to use them. As it is made of plastic it can be easily cleaned I just give it a wipe down with a cloth every few uses and it comes up as good as new again which is great. My only downside is the bristles of the brush tend to wear down after a few months thinning out the brush which is not huge to start off with so it makes it harder and more time consuming to sweep the mess up but for the price I paid I still got a fair amount of use out of it. Over all this is a great brush and pan set it only cost me around £1.50 from Sainsbury's and it lasted a good few months before I replaced it as the bristles do tend to thin out after a little while. I would recommend this set to anyone do not expect it to last forever but it is great for a good few month worth of help with the cleaning.
This dustpan and brush set is ideal for indoor cleaning / The ergonomically designed handle makes the set easy and comfortable to use.
