Sainsbury's Washing Up Liquid
Advantages: Very cheap, works well
Disadvantages: Not the best smelling liquid, greasy spots left
For the 2011-2012 academic year I decided to house share with 4 other fellow students as it was much cheaper than university owned accommodation. Living in a house with friends has its ups and its downs. One of the down sides is that we always forget who's turn it is to buy the essentials such as toilet rolls. Despite the promise that we will draw up a rota this has not been forthcoming and therefore we have the weekly debate about just who's turn it is to make the purchase. Last week I drew the short straw and we agreed that
I would buy the washing up liquid for everybody's use and with 5 people living in the house and thus, 5 lots of washing up it isn't as easy as just picking up the cheapest bottle of washing up liquid as it is finished within the week. However, now it is that easy since I discovered this little gem: Sainsbury's basics washing up liquid.
Sainsbury's basics range all has the same packaging: primarily white with orange text and this bottle is no different. It comes in a plastic squeezable bottle with a plastic stopper which prevents the liquid from spilling out. It contains all the information that you should need on the back and a basic description on the front. It is not very aesthetically pleasing but, at the end of the day, it is just washing up liquid!
Upon opening the washing up liquid the smell was not very prominent and I noticed that the liquid came out very quickly. The lack of viscosity concerned me as it had the same consistency as water and therefore it meant that I added more than usual to the hot running water. Very quickly lots of soft bubbles formed in the bowl and the smell became apparent the smell is quite hard to describe but it was by no means unpleasant but it did smell slightly chemical but that is to be expected. The washing up liquid was fit for purpose and helped to lift even the toughest stains from plates and cups and left my glasses with a shine however, if some soap is still present on the washing up instead of 'running off' on the draining board it leaves oily resin which is almost greasy and means that I have to re-wash the offending items.
I paid 40p from Sainsburys for 500ml of washing up liquid which is very reasonable in my opinion.
