What you get for your money.
Duck magic scrubs comes in a little plastic tub with a lid. The firm sponge handle is shaped with a flat bottom and curved handle. Also included in this starter pack were two sealed packets each containing 2 refill pads. The instructions are printed on the outer cardboard sleeve. I paid £1.50 for my pack from Asda but they usually sell for around £2.35. Refill packs cost £2.00 for 6 pads. Duck magic scrubs is made by S.C Johnson.
How do they work?
To use you will need to attach a pad to the bottom of the sponge handle, moisten slightly and press to release the cleaner. The pad will foam and is now ready to use. Magic scrubs are not recommended for stone, marble, wood or brass. The idea is that magic scrubs is a cleaner and sponge in one. When you have finished cleaning with the sponge you will need to rinse well to leave a shine. Each pad should provide enough cleaner for one bathroom. Once you have finished cleaning the pad is thrown away, it should not be flushed down the loo! The sponge handle is then stored in the little plastic tub provided. For awkward areas such as behind taps, you can detach the pad and use it without the handle.
I found attaching the pads to the handle easy. The handle has two Velcro strips for attaching the pads and I thought these might weaken with time. However I have now used all the pads in my starter pack without any problems with them coming undone.
The sponge is very easy to hold and allows you to apply good elbow grease to stubborn marks. The pads foam up well and I like the citrus scent. They were great for cleaning my shower, first decent clean it's had in ages! The system was also good for cleaning the bath and it was certainly less like hard work, so thumbs up from me!
On checking the packaging I see that the pads contain a cleaning substance that can cause eye irritation and dry skin. Like most cleaning products it is recommended you wear rubber gloves when using this product. The pads also contain Limonene naturally occurring substance found in the peel of citrus fruits. Limonene has a similar action to white spirit and is a well-known degreasing agent. At least the limonene is non-toxic!
As I have said this system did get my bathroom clean with little effort. I like the shape of the firm sponge handle; it was easy to hold and enabled me to get into awkward corners. The pads are easy to attach and can be used alone for awkward places.
I love the citrus scent and was pleased to note it lasted well; my bathroom still spent fresh several hours after I had cleaned. This system means you don't have to use a separate cloth and cleaner, so no more clothes to wash!
This is a very expensive way to clean a bathroom! I had expected a pad to last for more than one clean! However after cleaning my shower, bath and hand basin, the pad stopped foaming. As a pack of refills costs £2 for 6 this is very expensive!
After cleaning you still have to rinse. This is fine when you are cleaning the bath or hand basin, but not so good when you are cleaning a large area of tiles. My chemical free cloth can be used with just water and does a god job although takes more effort.
Once I have used up my refill pack I won't be buying any more due to the cost .The sponge handle will still be used, but with my chemical free cloth fixed onto the bottom for cleaning my shower! Overall not a bad product but a bit of an expensive gimmick really! If you want to give them a try they are available from Asda and Tesco and no doubt other large supermarkets.
