SC Johnson Duck Magic Scrubs
Advantages: easy to use
Disadvantages: not brilliant results, very wasteful
I'm a sucker for buying the latest cleaning product designed to make your home that little bit cleaner without you making any effort. One of my buys was the magic scrub bathroom cleaning system from SC Johnston which cost around £3 for a starter pack although I think they are more commonly seen in pound shops these days.
The starter kit consists of a flexible foam handle and four scrubby pads. To use the system you affix one of the pads onto the handle with the velcro and wet the pad to begin cleaning your bathroom.
These scrubbers are already filled with cleaning fluid and by wetting the pad you activate this fluid and can then use the handle to hold the pad meaning your hands dont need to come into contact with cleaning products or grimy surfaces.
Each pad is around 3 by 4 inches in size, I have found that the pad contains exactly the right amount of cleaning product to adequately clean my small bathroom before the foam runs out, anyone with a bigger bathroom would need two pads to do the job properly.
The foam handle is easy to grip and is surprisingly flexible which makes it easy to get into all the corners and nooks and crannies without taking the pad off. I like using the pad to clean the toilet as it meant that I never had to touch the underside of the seat at all. The cleaning fluid is reasonably good but certainly far from the best bathroom cleaner I have used. It seems to cope well with all the usual bathroom dirt of dried in toothpaste and soap scum but I found that it left everything clean but looking a bit dull so needing a polish to look nice.
I doubt if the foam handle would last for very long before needing replacing as the velcro seems to have lost its stick a bit after using the four pads from the starter pack. I find the whole system is really wasteful as you need to throw out a large pad every time you clean and the product also has a lot of packaging.
If you can pick up the magic scrub system in a pound shop then it is worth a try but it is definitely not worth paying more for. Another gimmicky product that is really not very good.
Summary: a gimmicky product
