Advantages: Does remove gentle odours
Disadvantages: Initial smell is heavy and then all of the smell takes a hike!
I adore my bedroom. It's my sanctuary and it's my private space. Living with the parents it's either my room I escape to or the pub! However not only am I mega messy (you wouldn't believe the tip I'm sat in right now for real!) but I am naughty for smoking in my room, and this is a none smoking house!. I do lean right out of my bedroom window and very rarely do I get caught for smoking with my acrobatics but I am terribly conscious of it and would hate to make the whole house stink. I have my windows openly constantly which upsets my Mother deeply as she has the heating on constantly at the moment (well it is January after all!) and usually I'm so paranoid about unwanted whiffs that I end up grabbing some body spray and wafting it about through the air like a mad woman. However when I remember to I do buy air freshener and this week I remembered to actually get some!
My can in the one that is shown in the review photograph at the top of this page. It's a 300ml aluminium white can with a bright green integrated push button aerosol sprayer to the top of it. On the front, at the top there is a pretty picture of a countryside scene, under that in dark blue bold lettering I'm told it is Oust and that it Odour Eliminates. Under that in squiggly lilac writing I'm then told it eliminates odours without just masking them and then in the same colour writing I'm told some stuff in a foreign languages I don't understand then bottom right hand corner there is a picture of a leaf drawn on and I'm told in dark blue writing that it is 'Outdoor Scent' (my chosen fragrance). Under that in a blue box and in white writing I'm finally told it is Johnson, A Family Company (Une Enterprise Familiare). On the back all in dark blue writing once again I'm told a bit about the product, directions for use, warnings are given, size is stated (as I've listed already), I'm warned that solvent abuse can kill, the recycle symbol is shown and finally there is bar-code and most of the written information is shown in different languages too. It's an ok can with plenty of information on it and looks functional and trustworthy rather than pretty.
A Bit About The Product (According To The Back Of The Can)....
Oust Odour Eliminator - eliminates odours without just masking. It's special formula neutralises bad odour molecules in the air, such as pet, bathroom, smoke and musty/mildew odours, leaving your home smelling clean and fresh.
Directions For Use...
Shake can well. To eliminate odours, point can towards centre of the room and spray. This product is not recommended for use on fabric.
Well firstly I do like the push button you spray with. It's integrated within plastic and there is a dip to place your finger into and the other side has a small hole of which the product dispenses from. You simply press and a fine white mist comes out that is highly visible. What I also like about it is that during shaking the can prior to using it and when you spray it you don't get liquid all over yourself. It comes out as a mist that is of course wet and shoots out quickly but I can't tell you how many times I have stained my ceiling with stuff such as this in the past and although this is a fast sprayer that is powerful I haven't ended up with a greasy mess on my ceiling and it doesn't get mess on my beige carpet either. So using it is simple and I always just spray a good old amount into my room, keeping an eye out for unwanted moisture. you do have to watch for this and so less of the product is more.
The smell to me is quite like alpine though not too heavy. Other people who have written reviews on this product have said it hits the backs of their throats and I totally agree with that because it does with me too even if I spray a small amount and on the odd occasion I've even felt like I can taste it but it's all rather odd because after that initial burst of rather strong fragrance within about 5 minutes the smell (to me) has completely vanished. Even if I leave the room and come back I can't smell the spray. However any nasty odours have seem to be eaten and taken away with this which is the plan anyway and my odours have gone.
A nice enough smelling fragrance to the nasal passages but does make me thirsty as hell but it's bearable. The initial smell is very pleasant and not sickly or anything, though it doesn't stay put anyway and it does seem to steal unwanted smells. However my smells really arnt that bad considering I'm not smoking many fags anyway and if I do it's right out the window. I don't think it would be a good cover up for a 40 a day habit and I doubt very much anything other than bathing your stinky dog will help remove nasty pet odour for long! However it's ok at removing cooking smells (or if you've been eating a curry in your bedroom watching celebrity big brother) and things like that. It's simply an ok, easy to use air freshener but it isn't a miracle product!
I bought mine in Sainsbury's at the current price of £1.58 and as far as I can tell there are just two other fragrances in the range which are Garden Fresh and Clean Scent (same prices apply) though do look about in other supermarkets etc as it is widely available for purchase.
Summary: It's ok air freshener but there are better one's out there
