Advantages: Easy to use and pleasantly fragranced
Disadvantages: Dispenses upwards not outwards, so be careful
I love being able to fragrance my home with beautifully scented products and whilst I generally tend to opt for plug-ins and candles I regularly use air fresheners for those occasions when I need to quickly get rid of those offensive pongs and no, I'm not referring to hubby's feet!
I simply cannot bear the smell in the house after cooking, particularly following Sunday lunch where we have perhaps eaten cabbage and sprouts! Unfortunately, I'm too impatient to wait for their odours to naturally disappear, so will always use a quick burst of spray. The product I am reviewing today is Oust, which is manufactured by SC Johnson.
The aerosol I own is the citrus scent fragrance, which is contained within a 300ml aerosol can with a bright yellow lid. The familiar Oust logo is situated in the centre of the can and located above is an image of a meadow of lemon trees. The product is quite eye-catching and in my opinion conjures up thoughts of fresh and clean, which is clearly a good marketing ploy as it ended up in my shopping trolley!
Another reason I chose this brand is that we are advised that it eliminates odours without just masking. I'm sure you will agree with me when I say that there is nothing worse than the horrible stench of sprouts or cabbage reappearing after you've digested your food, particularly when you're feeling a little worse for wear as you've eaten far too much!
A positive with this brand is that there are no lids, which I often find detach themselves and get lost in the back of the cupboard. The spray is situated within the upper section and all you need to do is press down hard to enable a rather forceful spurt to dispense upwards. Don't make the same mistake as I did and be under the illusion that the spray will dispense from the front of the can. Unfortunately, I didn't check and ended up spraying myself in the eyes and face! Don't forget - it dispenses upwards!
The fragrance is considerably refreshing and whilst it is not as natural smelling as I would have expected, I cannot say that it smelled unpleasant or artificial. It has a gorgeous lemon aroma that definitely eradicates those nasty smells. When my pussycat, Maizie was alive I frequently had to use this around her litter tray, as whilst she was very dainty and cute she wasn't half whiffy at times!
I cannot say that the fresh lemon aroma lingers for long as I can only generally detect it for about thirty minutes. However, it most definitely does rid you of those horrible pongs! I would advise that you should spray this away from wooden tables and expensive items, particularly as the forceful spray dispenses upwards and subsequently lands on something. I tend to hold the aerosol as high as I can reach and ensure that there is nothing below.
On the rear of the can we are advised that this product is effective due to the special formula where we are able to neutralise odours such as pets, bathroom, smoke and musty/mildew odours. Whilst no-one smokes in our home it is useful for giving our rooms a quick freshen, particularly if the doors have been closed all day when we've been out.
As this is a pressurised container we are provided with the usual warning information, such as do not smoke whilst using, do not pierce or burn and do not leave in direct sunlight. Once empty, the container can be recycled.
Would I recommend this? Yes, most definitely, particularly as it is very efficient and effective and really does live up to its' claims. If you are interested in purchasing Oust I would advise that as of September 2010 you can buy it from Tesco for £1.65. There are various fragrances in the range, such as the citrus scent, which I have today reviewed, Garden Fresh, Outdoor Fresh and Spring Water. Unfortunately, I cannot comment on the other fragrances, as I have always opted for the citrus.
As this is such an effective and pleasantly fragranced product it receives 5 out of 5 dooyoo stars from me.
I hope you found my review useful and would thank you for reading.
Summary: A great smelling product from Oust to eliminate those odours
