A can of odour eliminating spray is usually in my trolley, and I generally buy whatever is the best price at the time (and I do like to try different ones).This is how I came to buy Oust odour eliminator in citrus scent. Strangely, considering Oust was one of the first widely advertised to eliminate rather than mask odours as far as I am aware, I had never tried it before (with the exception of the Glade REfresh I love, which has 'Oust technology'). I got it in Semi Chem for the princely sum of £1, which is what I usually try to pay for these sprays since there's always one to be had for around that price.

This comes in a regular 300ml aerosol can, with the dispensing nozzle built in to the yellow lid. The button here is at an angle so your finger rests comfortably on it while in use. The front of the can is mostly taken up with product info in different languages but there is a picture along the top of a lemon grove on a sunny day. The back of the can displays all the usual information such as directions, ingredients and safety considerations, in various languages. You are directed to simply aim at the centre of a room and spray, and informed that this is not designed to be used on fabrics.

The product itself is dispensed as a very dry, thick spray (from the top of the lid) that you can see dispersing through the room. You really don't need to use a huge amount of this at one time as it does spread really well. I really like that you can actually see the spray moving through the room, it lets you see it reaching (or not) whatever areas you want it to get to. The scent is very fresh and it does have hints of citrus, but there is no tang to it. It's softer, if that's the right way to describe it, almost a powdery floral rather than sharp citrus. I prefer zingy citrus fragrances as they are 'cleaner'. It is a very pleasant smell though, just not quite what I expected or hoped for!

It does do a good job of making the place smell nice and fresh, but I find the fragrance and the odour eliminating effects do disappear quite quickly. The best example I can give, is from a little while back; we had Dogface at the beach, so of course he came home wet. While I am actually a bit partial to the smell of [a clean, well kept] wet dog, I don't want the living room to smell of it as it gets musty in a room if it's not addressed. After he had been dried off and had a snooze in the living room, I tidied up and had a spray of this (while he was out the room of course) but sadly a short while later the smell of wet dog was apparent again.

I prefer a wetter spray, as they seem to hang around better, clinging to carpets etc as they dry. I know this states that it's not meant to be used directly on fabrics, but I do spray it in the vicinity of the sofa and curtains, and while it hasn't caused any problems it doesn't really do that much either; it doesn't rest on the fabrics, appearing to simply roll off into the air instead. Another reason I prefer wetter sprays, as your room will smell stale if the soft furnishings within it have smells clinging to them, even if the air itself has been freshened.

So for those reasons, this is not one I will buy again, and I wouldn't generally recommend it. It does work fine for a quick blast before visitors though, but I have used much better sprays which can be had for the same price. The scent is nice, it's easy to use and the good price makes it excellent value in terms of how long it lasts, but it just doesn't work for me. And so, I'm Ou(s)t!
