I have a confession to make that will shock many faithful users of this site. I have never, no never, Yankee Candled. I can hear the gasps from here!. Neither have I Airwicked nor Ambipured or Ambi airiated (made that word up). Poor deprived woman, why should this be?" I shall tell you. Living on boats that are normally stuffed full of miles of electric cables to feed pumps, appliances, air con, navigation equipment and all the other stuff, (and there is a lot,) that you need to run a large Gin Palace, your nose becomes an early warning system. The words "I can smell something and it smells hot" strikes fear into the heart of Capt Splishsplash and has averted quite a few incidents over the years . Bearing this in mind we tend not to mask smells with "Tropical Rain Burst" or Cinnamon Reindeer Frolic" so now that we have partially moved ashore I am fighting my instincts and have dipped my toe into the world of home fragrances starting with the lovely fresh smell of Fresh Citrus Oust which we bought about 6months ago from our local Spanish supermarket.

To Oust or not to Oust

Oust is an areosol air freshner made by Johnsons and this "flavour" comes in a tall, jolly yellow topped cannister with a design of lemon groves surrounding the top of the can and Oust written clearly on the front of the can in large letters .It holds 300ml of lovely lemon, citrus fresh spray and claims to actually eliminate bad odours instead of just masking them. How the little particles in the can do this I do not know but they seem to latch on to the bad smells and neutralise them. The bright yellow top has an indent of about 45degrees which you press to release a vertical burst of the freshner from the head of the cylinder as opposed to most fly sprays type cans which have a 90degree nozzle. I actually have to use my thumb to press the spray release and genaerally just give a quick 1sec burst. On the back of the can are the normal warnings for this type of product, keep out of the sun and heat and remember that it is extremly flammable. Don't inhale or use around a naked flame and use in well ventilated places. Rather a lot of warnings actually!

When do I Oust?

We have a very lovely Golden Retriever who is the dog version of Marilyn Monroe except I bet Marilyn didn't honk when she got wet. I do not like to inflict this smell on guests and a quick burst seems to dispell that smell very well. I also use it if we have had fish for our evening meal as, at this time of year all the windows are closed at night and Oust stops the smell pervading its way all through the flat. It also gets rid of whiffy drain and bathroom smell effectively and I feel more confident that the flat smell pleasant when guests arrive if I have had a quick Oust!


My Opinion.

It suits our needs very well as a quick method of getting rid of an unpleasant smell. Iwouldn't say the citrus scent lasts very long but it does do what it claims to do on the can. The citrus scent is very fresh and pleasant without being overpowering and I would recommend it as an efficient , pleasant way of Ousting your household smells.

I paid around 1.60pounds for my can and I will continue to buy it when my present can runs out. My only concern is that it was not eco friendly but I see on the can that it does not contain CFC gases so 5 stars from me for a happy smell free home.
