A few weeks ago I had a much welcomed break from the weekly chore of shopping as hubby offered to carry out the laborious task and armed with my carefully written shopping list he went off to our local Tesco Extra. As hubby has been well trained by yours truly, he carefully scrutinises the labels on the supermarket shelves (well, he says he does!!) to look for the bargains and consequently, he returned home with an alternative all purpose cleaner. I prefer to have one bottle of universal cleaner, rather than lots of individual ones for the bathroom, kitchen and floors etc. He handed me a 1 litre almost transparent bottle of Tesco All Purpose cleaner with a lemon fragrance. The liquid is a bright yellow/green and its' appearance looks luminous (although I haven't tried cleaning in the dark as of yet!). The bottle has a large easy to hold handle and there is a yellow label on the front containing an appealing image of cut lemons and a sparkling oven. Located below we are informed that the cleaner removes stubborn stains, cuts through grease and leaves a sparkling finish. The only downside for me is that the liquid is contained within a screw top bottle and as I prefer to apply my cleaners to the affected areas and leave for a few minutes, this is not possible. However, I always retain bottles from previous liquid cleaners, so I simply poured the liquid into an alternative container. Another concern I have is that the screw cap is not child friendly and was extremely easy to remove. I would have thought Tesco would have been more responsible and in my opinion, they seriously need to reconsider the design, particularly as this product contains ingredients that can cause harm if swallowed or in contact with the eyes. The All Purpose cleaner can be used in a number of ways; undiluted for areas such as sinks, hobs, kitchen surfaces, baths etc or diluted for areas such as floors and wall tiles. You simply need to use two 60ml capfuls per 5 litres of warm water. The fragrance is absolutely delightful and truly smells of fresh lemons. I cannot bear cleaners that smell of bleach and ammonia, as whilst these are clean smells, I do not want my home to smell clinical. The product is both efficient and effective and removes all grease stains from my hob and the soap scum from my bath. It always leaves the areas squeaky clean and beautifully fragranced. I find that minimal elbow grease is needed when using this product. I used the liquid on my black gloss floor tiles in my bathroom, which tend to show up every mark and it left them looking extremely clean with an added shine. We are informed that Tesco All Purpose Cleaner contains less than 5% of non-ionic surfactants, sodium hydroxymethyl, glycinate, perfume, geraniol and limonene. As with most cleaning products, you should not expose to heat and you should keep out of reach of children and pets. We are informed on the rear of the bottle that this product has not been tested on animals. Once empty, the bottle can be recycled. Tesco All Purpose Cleaner is also available in a pine fragrance and normally retails at £1.45 for a 1-litre bottle. However, until 13 July 2010 you can purchase 3 bottles for the price of 2. In my opinion, this product is excellent value for money and achieves the same cleaning standards as the well-known more expensive brands. Consequently, it receives 5 out of 5 dooyoo stars from me. I hope you found my review useful and would thank you for reading.
Tesco All Purpose Cleaner Tesco All Purpose Cleaner is a multi surface cleaner that comes in as see through spray bottle. It is easily recognisable by its bright yellow colour. The bottle comes in one size-500mls and costs 89p. The product is available in all Tesco stores. I like multi surface products as I like to clean my house from top to bottom in the one go so I don't want to be bothered using several different bottles for several different rooms. This product is suitable for cleaning the kitchen and the bathroom, floors and stairs so with the exception of wooden surfaces it does most of my house. My experience- I expected a strong lemon smell from this liquid due to the colour of the bottle but this was not so. The cleaner smells clean and fresh but it is difficult to describe exactly what it smells of. I found the cleaner to be great on my kitchen surfaces removing dirt and grime without a problem. For more stubborn stains like on the cooker I simply spray and leave for a few minutes, the cleaner then removes it without a problem. The clear is also great in the bathroom and leaves your suite with a nice clean shine. I do not however use this on the actual toilet as I feel the need for something strong on this, generally bleach. Overall- This is a well-priced and effective multi surface cleaner leaving surfaces clean and fresh smelling. Highly recommended
Cleaning the bathroom seems to be such a thankless task, and with four people living in our house, who all use the bathroom at least once a day, it is a job that forever needs doing. It is not a job I enjoy, especially after my son has been playing football and has left a muddy ring around the bath. I have been attracted by all the advertising gimmicks on the television, and have spent pounds on bottles of spray, cream, mousse ? you name it I have bought it at some point. Last month I bought a bottle of Tesco All Purpose Cleaner. A 500 ml bottle retails at a very inexpensive 68p, although it does come in a one litre size, costing another 20p, which represents wonderful value for money, provided of course, that it does the job for which it is intended. There are three fragrances in the range, citrus, floral and pine. Compare the 500ml price with that of Flash All Purpose Cleaner, and you will be saving yourself 30p per bottle. The packaging is simple, yet striking. The cleaner is contained within a bright purple plastic bottle, being angular in shape. The bottle has a bright red screw top, over which is a clear plastic cap. When the bottle is shaken, the product sounds quite watery. As I bought the floral variety, I expected a flowery scent to waft from the bottle when it was opened. However, this was not to be. Although there is a hint of sweetness, the cleaner has more of an antiseptic smell than a floral one. Tipping the bottle, I expected a watery stream of cleaner to appear. However, the consistency of the product is quite gel-like and is a pale purple colour, almost lilac. When using the cleaner on bathroom fixtures and fittings, there is no need to use vast amounts. The most surprising thing about the cleaner is that it foams up, creating a thick lather, when applied to any surface. The smell of the product does smell more flowery when it is being used, and the antiseptic smell dissipates when the cleaner comes into contact with the air. I literally use a thumb-sized amount of the cleaner for the sink and this is enough to leave everything sparkling. Of course, the product does need to be rinsed from the surfaces, due to the lather, but so do most other cleaning products of this type. The cleaner can be used on enamel products, as well as the plastic variety, and can be used either neat or diluted. I have found the cleaner to be as good as the more expensive brands for our bathroom floor, and again, only a small amount is needed. Tesco All Purpose Cleaner claims to clean as well as any leading brand, and has certainly delivered that promise. There is no need to scrub at dirty marks, I find that a quick rub with a cloth will remove any lingering spots from the bath tub and dried on toothpaste from the sink. I have now used the cleaner for the best part of a month and still have nearly half of a bottle remaining, which I believe represents fantastic value for money, and also proves that despite cleaning the bathroom every day, a little of the cleaner goes a long way. Not only is the cleaner low in price, but it cleans my bathroom and furniture as well as Cif or Mr. Muscle, and leaves them looking clean, until the next person uses them! I will not be wasting my money on any of the more expensive brands again, but will instead be saving my pennies to buy more chocolate
