“ Brand: Tesco / Type: All Purpose Cleaner / Subcategory: Cleaning Spray / Category: Cleaning & Disinfectant „
My Mother-In-Law is in the habit of sending me her surplus items from her 'End of the World' stock pile. In the last box of items I discovered a bottle Tesco Anti-Bacterial Multi-Purpose Cleaner in Apple. I was quite pleased with this as I use Multi Purpose cleaner all around the house in my day to day cleaning so the addition of an Anti-Bacterial element pleased me as my Husband and Daughter currently have quite a nasty cough.
The product comes in a clear plastic spray bottle, the bottle is comfortable to hold (I have little hands) and the trigger mechanism is easy to grasp and press down. The lovely Apple scented cleaner is released when the nozzle is turned to the on position and the trigger is pressed down. It is advised to spray from a distance of 20-25cm directly on to the surface to be cleaned, then wiped with a damp cloth and allowed to dry.
I have used this cleaner all over the house and have been very impressed so far; I am half way down the 500ml bottle. It is great for cleaning the top of the hob and the tiles behind, it removes sticky marks and greasy splashes relatively easily and buffs up to a great shine. I have also used the cleaner for cleaning up my puppies occasional accidents on the ceramic tiles in my hallway (Jess is 7 months now). I feel reassured that the Anti-Bacterial properties are protecting my family from any puppy nastiness.
The spray cleaner has also been used for cleaning the toilet seats and cisterns, door handles and light pulls/switches, as well as the whole bathroom.
In the bathroom it works very well on the various surfaces, glass, plastic, tiles and metal. It easily removes toothpaste splashes and soap residue. I was very impressed when it easily cleaned away the rusty patch that was dribbling down from my shower attachment. After using the cleaner on the whole room my bathroom is left sparkling with a slight apple scent.
The bottle boasts that it kills 99.9% of bacteria and viruses and gives 24 hour germ protection. The back of the label tells me that the cleaner kills E-Coli, Staphylococcus Aureus, Enterococcus Hirae, Listeria, Campylobactera, Psuedomonas Auruginosa, Salmonella, MRSA, Influenza Type A (H1N1) and Rotovirus. The label is also full of the usual safety precautions that should be followed at all times, one that caught my eye is that pets should not be allowed to walk on treated surfaces until they are dry, or to lick surfaces that have been sprayed or wiped with this product. This is something I keep in mind when using around Jess (my puppy).
All things considered I think that Tesco Anti-Bacterial and Multi-Purpose cleaner is a great all round home cleaning product, it removes sticky, soapy and greasy marks with ease and leaves behind a streak free shine. The bottle is sturdy and the trigger mechanism works smoothly. It currently retails in Tesco at £1.40 a bottle or 2 for £2.00.
I happily give the product 4 out of 5 stars, only removing one for the pet safety aspect.
Thank you for reading.
Living in a student house and keeping it relatively habitable is never easy for some reason (this coming from a girl whose friend is OCD!) but don't worry, I always endeavour to do my part in keeping places clean. So during one weekly shop, I picked up this Antibacterial Multi-Purpose Cleaner when Tesco did a 2 for £2 on their store branded cleaning sprays (the other I picked up was the Tesco Shower Cleaner). Individually they cost £1.40 and there are two versions of the product that are scented: Pink Grapefruit and Apple, the latter of which this review is based on.
The packaging for the spray is basic but informative enough. It comes in a typical bottle spray that's made of see-through plastic so you can tell how much cleaner is left in there. The label on the front just has the title and a shield logo. Below that, the product states that it cuts grease and grime, kills 99.9% of bacteria and leaves a fresh apple fragrance behind. Seeing these are claims many branded anti-bacterial sprays make nowadays at almost twice the cost of this one, these is good enough for me!
As per usual with this spray, simply twist the nozzle and then spray about 20cm away from the surface area, leave for 5 minutes, then wipe and rinse clean. The instructions say this can't be used on carpets, soft or polished furniture.
I've used this spray combined with either a basic cleaning cloth or sponge to clean our hob, kitchen surfaces and the wooden floors in my student house's hallways and it hasn't disappointed at all. It gets rid of basic stains anywhere without having to wait the five minutes stated, meaning minimal scrubbing for me while having perfect-looking surfaces looking like I'd just moved in again. Tougher stains on my hob do take a bit more work but this spray does get them clean eventually, especially if you use your sponge to help lift any food or grime stuck on the hob rings.
The apple scent is a nice touch as well. It's not at all overpowering and leaves places smelling faintly of something pleasant and not like you need to open the windows straight away. Even my friend commented that the smell was nice when she saw me using it in the hallway!
Overall this is a great cleaning spray that's suitable all around the house and excellent value. I shall definitely be saving my pennies by purchasing this again!
I like this cleaner mainly because of its lovely smell. It really does smell like grapefruits - fresh and citrusy.
I don't usually buy branded cleaners unless they are on special offer as I believe that the supermarket own brands do an equally good job, quite often for less money. I found this Tesco all purpose anti bacterial cleaner a year or so ago and decided to try it instead of the usual lemon one. It was on special offer at the time but is usually priced about £1.79. I soon found that I was finding any excuse to use it just to make my house smell fresh, clean and grapefruity!
The cleaner comes in the usual plastic bottle with the shaped top making it easy to hold and press the spray trigger at the top. It has a screw top fixing the trigger section to the bottle which is much better than the push on tops that some cheaper makes have. It also has an on/off switch on the spray to stop accidental spillages. The bottle is clear allowing the pink liquid to show through and parts of the trigger top are pink to match, it hold s 500ml.
The label states that the cleaner cuts kitchen grease, cleans bathroom grime and kills 99.9% bacteria. I can certainly agree with the first two. I have cleaned my hob with it after frying and all the grease comes off very easily. The bath also looks great when the usual weekly grime marks are easily removed by this cleaner and best of all, everything smells so nice. I obviously can't tell if it is killing 99.9% of the bacteria but I am happy to take their word that it is doing a good job in that direction.
On particularly grubby or greasy areas it is best if the cleaner is sprayed on and left for 5 minutes before wiping off and then rinsing with clean water.
This is a hard surface cleaner and so shouldn't be used on carpets or soft furnishings and only very sparingly on washable wallpaper.
I won't bore you with all the ingredients as like me you are probably not that interested but I will just say that the usual rules apply when using products like this; that is wash hands thoroughly after use and preferably protect hands with rubber gloves; seek medical help if ingested accidentally and do not allow pets, especially cats, to walk on treated surfaces until they are dry. Cats are particularly susceptable to poisoning from household cleaning products.
I find this cleaner very easy to use, very effective on grease and grime and leaving a very pleasant smell behind which lasts for some hours. Well done Tesco.
