~Cistern Blocks~
These cistern blocks are part of Tescos basic range 'Everyday Value'. A plain white and blue packet holds 2 cistern blocks. These blocks can be used in septic tank toilets and can be used in conjunction with other toilet cleaners.
One block should be popped into the cistern of your toilet and left for 5 minutes to settle before flushing. The block is designed to freshen and clean your toilet. The water should change to a blue colour, foam up and leave a pine scent. It is important to keep these blocks away from children and they can cause irritation.
2 x 50g blocks can be bought from www.tesco.com and instore priced at just 30p.
~My Thoughts~
I have an OCD when it comes to keeping my toilet clean and my cleaning cupboard is full of wipes, bleaches, toilet cleaners and cistern blocks. I also replace my toilet brush twice a month. I usually buy Bloo cistern blocks but have noticed them going up in price recently so have tried these cheaper blocks a few times. Tesco have recently updated the packaging and range name to 'Everyday Value'.
These blocks are super cheap - you can't get much for 30p nowadays. Each block has a blue, pleated wrapper which should be kept on as it dissolves in the water. The blocks are easy to use and I just pop it in the cistern and leave it to get to work. I find I get 2-3 weeks 'noticeable' action from each block which isn't bad but not as good as branded cistern blocks. The performance of the blocks does decrease a little after each week and I simply replace the block when the blue colouring starts to become really faint.
Flushing the toilet results in blue water shooting down from the rim - it doesn't stain but it doesn't exactly 'cling' to the bowl. A clump of foamy bubbles forms but quickly disappears leaving blue tinted water. I find coloured water to be much nicer than no colouring at all but I am fussy! My toilet does appear clean and refreshed after each flush but of course it doesn't match the cleaning performance of a good bleach and scrub. A subtle pine fragrance is left behind which lasts a short while - I do prefer a stronger fragrance and am more fond of citrussy smells but the pine isn't overpowering.
~Conclusion~
These cistern blocks are ideal for when you are on a budget as they are so much cheaper than branded blocks. They aren't the best but they do refresh my toilet with each flush which means I don't feel the need to be using bleach all the time. Bargain!
