Advantages: Keeps the loo fresh
Disadvantages: None really but I would like a differnt colour
Lime scale is a bit of a problem where we live and if there's one thing I hate its a water mark around the toilet bowl. I normally keep limescale marks at bay with white vinegar but after having my baby by caesarean I wasn't able to do as much around the house as normal. Worried about how clean the loo would look while I had the midwife visiting I sent my husband Mark to our local Tesco to buy a coloured block to pop in the toilet. He came home with Tesco Everyday Value Cistern Blocks.
The blocks are sold in a twin pack and are attached to a card. This is blue and white in colour and has the Tesco logo across the top where is also informs the customer that these are Everyday Value Cistern Blocks. A twin pack of these will set you back a measly 30p, considerably cheaper than branded ones.
The blocks are blue in colour, I don't know if Tesco do these in any colours or not. The blocks have a pine fragrance which I have to admit I was very dubious about, I'm not a fan of pine, it can be overpowering and in my opinion has a bit of a "public loo" smell, but the fragrance of these was quite mild.
When you remove the blocks they are covered with a pleated wrapper which needs to stay on the block and it will dissolve once in the water. The instructions state you need to pop the block in the cistern at the opposite end to the water inlet and leave it for 5 minuets to settle before flushing. When flushed the water in the loo should be a nice shade of blue.
After following the instructions I flushed the loo and was pleased to see the water a deep blue colour disguising any limescale marks or any other marks for that matter! I was also pleased that the dark blue water didn't stain the bowl. When the toilet is flushed it leaves the water with a slight foam on top but this doesn't last long, there is a smell of pine but its very faint and like the foam soon fades completely away.
I was pleased with the Everyday Value Cistern Blocks, they are no substitute for cleaning the toilet with bleach but they do seem to keep it looking and smelling fresh and they certainly disguised any marks in there. The blue colour started to fade after a week and was gone after a fortnight but 30p for 4 weeks of freshness isn't bad value at all.
I would certainly recommend Tesco Everyday Value Cistern Blocks, they are not something I use all the time but would definitely consider using them again, they are a very good product for the money. I just wish they were a different colour but for 30p I cant complain.
Summary: A good value product
