Tesco Value White Kitchen Towel
Disadvantages: You will need two or three sheets where one sheet will do with other brands
Kitchen roll has become my friend since having a baby.
Now there's a sentence you didn't expect to see starting off a kitchen roll review. In fact, there's something I bet you didn't think would ever be said about kitchen roll.
Perhaps I should be more specific. Kitchen roll has become invaluable since my daughter started weaning. I can have a roll on hand to clean off the table of her high chair during courses, wipe down her splash mat and even gently wipe away excess food from her face, hands and clothes. I set out using baby wipes for all these tasks and found I was getting through far too many. Starting off with the kitchen roll and then moving onto baby wipes for the final cleaning is the perfect combination.
Still I was finding I was getting through the two kitchen rolls in a pack easily each week. I therefore thought it best to try and look for the cheapest brand possible. Tesco Value seemed the answer at around 99p for two rolls.
Tesco Value as a brand is a money saver in many areas and for certain products you do not seem to be sacrificing too much in the way of quality or taste.
In the case of kitchen roll however, it seems you do get what you pay for. Each sheet of Tesco Value kitchen roll is smaller in length and width than any more expensive rival and significantly thinner. It is not possible to use one sheet on its own without it ripping. You need two sheets at least to have enough thickness to absorb a spill. Three sheets is actually the most effective. Because of this you end up using far more sheets at a time so buying a cheaper brand is a false economy.
I also use the kitchen roll to dry up my daughter's cups, bowls and spoons as I don't like using a germ-ridden tea towel and again I need a good wodge of two or three sheets to do the job properly. When using a more expensive brand of kitchen roll I can dry all her cups and bowls effectively with just one sheet.
During the weekly shop if I am conscious of keeping the price down I'll still purchase Tesco Value kitchen roll but if I am feeling a bit more relaxed about the bill I'll buy a more expensive brand instead. Any of the other Tesco varieties are that much better than Tesco Value but the well-known brands which boast super absorbency are better all round as long as you have the deep pockets week in week out to buy them and don't have a messy baby to keep clean.
Summary: Helps save the pennies but you will need to use more than one sheet at a time
