Tesco Washing Up Liquid
Advantages: Cheap, Long lasting, Cuts through grease.
Disadvantages: Dissolves hands, smells a bit chemically.
While at the mother-in-laws the other week she decided to give me 5 bottles of Tesco original washing up liquid from her rather excessive supply of 15 bottles, as previous readers of my reviews will know my mother-in-law has an end of the world stock pile that mostly compromises of cleaning products and toilet roll. Goodness knows why she feels the need to clean during the Apocalypse; I personally shall be raiding the wine rack and scoffing the Christmas choccies.
The washing up liquid comes in a fairly standard 500ml washing up liquid bottle; it is clear plastic and has instructions for use on the back and a few warnings to avoid the eyes, not to ingest and to rinse hands after use.
As usual I set about tackling the bizarrely large mountain of pots that my family produces, the washing up liquid is a very dark green and quite pleasing to the eye, it is exactly the colour I think of when I think of washing up liquid. The consistency of the liquid is very rich and smells of lemony, chemically soapiness. All in all I found it quite pleasant to sniff and look at.
A squirt of the liquid in the washing up bowl is more than enough to do the dinner pots for a family of four. Its pot washing abilities are pretty good, glasses and cutlery come out sparkling, it easily cuts through grease on plates and pans and when used for soaking stubborn pots it only needs ten minutes or so to loosen those baked on bits.
As usual I never wash my hands after washing the pots, it never really occurs to me to do it despite the warning on the bottle for people with damaged or sensitive skin to avoid prolonged contact with it. I had been using the washing up liquid for over a week when I noticed the return of the rather nasty eczema on my fingers.
Although this washing up liquid doesn't dry my skin out it causes the horrible little blisters to form on my fingers that then steadily get itchier and itchier till I can't help but scratch. If I only had one bottle of this it would go on my one to avoid list, but seeing as I have four more bottles to use I have been out and purchased some rubber gloves.
The washing up liquid currently sells for 89p a bottle or two bottles for £1.50; I think this is a really good price as apart from dissolving my fingers it is great for washing the pots with. It gives great results for a relatively cheap price and I have been using the same bottle for nearly three weeks, there is still a quarter left so I should get another week from it. At this rate my four bottles will last me through the Apocalypse, Christmas and New Year.
In conclusion this is a great value product, I personally will avoid it though due to its finger dissolving properties, but that is most likely just my sensitive skin and I should really have headed the warning on the bottle. It cuts through grease and one squirt is enough to do the dinner pots of a family of four.
I give it 3 stars, removing two as it is very harsh on my hands.
Thank you for reading.
Summary: If I had not been given four bottles I would not continue using it.
