Tesco Washing Up Liquid
Advantages: Cleans well, lathers well, smells okay
Disadvantages: Requires a bit more scrubbing on tough dirt, v runny, need to use lots, dries hands
My flat mate bought this Tesco washing up liquid and we have both been using it for the last two weeks. She bought it in the lemon scented version but I know it is also available in apple, and possibly other scents which I have not seen.
The bottle contains 500 ml and its main selling point is the fact it is cheaper than brands like Fairy. My flat mate paid around 80p for this. The Tesco washing up liquid states on the bottle that independent tests have found that it cleans as well as the "leading brand", presumably meaning Fairy Liquid. So, have we found this to be the case?
The first thing I noticed about this washing up liquid is that it is really runny and we seem to have got through it quite quickly. I think a larger quantity of this gets used for the same amount of washing up compared to when we use Fairy. However, it does clean perfectly well. It lathers up well in water or on a cloth or sponge, and it cuts through dirt quite easily. A little bit of scrubbing has been required on tougher items such as a baking tray where dirt has got slightly baked on, and it takes a bit more effort to remove this than with Fairy, but it did successfully remove it.
The scent is okay, but nothing special. It is very artificial and smells more of "lemon cleaning products" than actually of real lemons, but that is no different to what I was expecting. The smell is fairly clean and not too strong.
The washing up liquid is quite harsh on my hands and feels a bit drying. As I usually don't have much washing up to do in one go as I am usually just cooking for myself and washing up my own things (and occasionally my flat mates) after eating, I don't bother to use rubber gloves but I am wondering if I should do to stop my hands feeling dried out by this washing up liquid. I do feel the need to wash my hands with a creamy hand wash and use hand cream to make my hands feel better after washing up with this.
On the whole it does do the job and for the price I am quite happy with it, but it is nothing to write home about and I would rather look for Fairy or another brand reduced on special offer as I think that would be better value than buying this cheaper product, as it would last longer, and work a bit quicker on tough dirt. It is okay though for a budget purchase and I would recommend giving it a try if you want to save a few pennies on your shop.
Summary: Not bad, but not amazing
