      quack down on toilet germs

When it comes to cleaning the loo's in our house i normally prefer to use a bleach like domestos. It quick and easy to use, effective, and being a Nurse i like how bleach kills all the germs too. I like also how it doesn't leave coloured streaks down the side of the loo. I'm a squirt it down leave and flush it type when it comes to cleaning the loo so prefer not to have to wipe off coloured streaks with a loo brush. Anyway the other day i noticed toilet duck was on offer and was now cheaper than my usual domestos. I have used toilet duck before so i knew what i was getting was a good loo cleaner though so i plonked a bottle of for each of the two loo's in our house.

When i brought this it was on offer for £1 for a 750ml bottle which will last around 6 or 7 toilet cleans. Normally it is more expensive than usual bleach around £1.30ish so i guess it can be deemed to be expensive for something down the loo but its actually better value when compared to some cheap supermarket brands which seem overly watery and weak. The bottle is white with the notorious bottle neck for reaching under the rim of the loo and with a green label for the 'fresh' fragrance i selected. Toilet duck also do a blue labelled bottle for ocean fragrance and a orange label for citrus fragrance. I have used all three previously but tend to prefer the fresh green variety as it is actually a nice smell, as nice a smell as a loo cleaner can be i guess! Toilet duck claim the liquid will kill 99.9% of germs, remove limescale, freshen, and remove stains above and below the waterline. The back of the bottle has the usual lists of instructions and precautions.

The child proof safety lid can be difficult when opening the bottle for the first time. Sometimes it feels as if your twist the bottle neck before the lid loosens. Once opened it becomes easier to open there on, probably a little easily for those with little fingers around so i would recommend storing out of reach. Aiming and squirting the liquid around its surprising how quick the liquid can come out the bottle. Surprising in as you would it be overly watery but it tends to hang around well enough. The liquid is green and covers the whole toilet bowl with ease. The fragrance is really nice. Its what i like about it. Its slightly pine but with a floral mix to it and it nicely freshens up the whole bathroom. Some may not like it but some may prefer it to the chlorine bleach smell. I normally leave it to work and then come back and flush it away after half an hour or so. The liquid seems to cling on including under the rim before i flush which shows how well it cleans. The toilet is left clean and shiney with no stains left including under the rim and around the waterline. I don't have a microscope so i can't tell for sure all germs are killed but seeing as it contains disinfectant its safe to assume germs are getting a thrashing which is reassuring. We are also lucky that we don't have a bad limescale in the water where we are so i can't comment on that claim.

Overall i would recommend this product. It smells great, leaves the loo clean and kills germs. The only thing i don't like about it are that you are left with green streaks when the loo is flushed, which although aren't permanant, they are annoying. Seeing as its also normally more expensive than my usual domestos i will probably not buy it again unless its on offer but i will buy it again when its next on offer.

      A great loo cleaner

      Quackers for a quid

Although I am familiar with the Toilet Duck brand of toilet cleaning products, I have never previously bought them, always opting for the bog (pardon the pun) standard bleach. But doing an online shop at Asda recently I discovered this for just £1, so thought I'd give it a try for a change. Usually a 750ml bottle would set you back nearer the £1.50 mark.

The product promises to kill 99.99% of germs, remove limescale and clean above and below the waterline. Which is about all you can ask for in a toilet cleaner really!

      Under the rim

The reason Toilet Duck has its well-known name is that the "neck" of the bottle/duck is nicely angled, and slim enough, to go right under the loo rim. So you just unscrew the lid (which, as with most of these products, has to be squeezed at certain points to aid opening) and squirt under the rim. This product should be left for a good hour before flushing and is designed to be used three times a week to keep the toilet fresh and clean - and germ-free!

      Clinging on...

Using this for the first time, I definitely noticed that the green liquid is of a thinner consistency than the usual bleaches that I use, which I guess tend to be thicker. I kind of expected the cleaner to just drain down the sides of the loo straight away, but in actual fact, despite the thinner consistency, I found that the cleaner clung nicely to the sides of the loo. It also had a nice smell - definitely that pine fragrance you would associate with bathroom cleaning products which I would describe as clean and fresh. It is also nicer than the smell of bleach that I often end up with when I use my usual bleach down the loo!

As instructed I flushed this after an hour or so - perhaps a bit longer - and I was pleased to see that my toilet was sparkling white, with no traces or dirt or limescale to be seen. Another bonus was that pretty much all traces of the cleaner disappeared too, which is something that doesn't always happen with the thicker bleaches I've used previously.

And after use there was still a faint trace of the fresh scent in the air. What I liked, though, was that it wasn't too strong - it was just "there" without being really obvious or unpleasant. Just right!

      A super duck

Overall I can't fault the Toilet Duck! It is very easy to use, smells good (as toilet cleaners go) and really does clean the loo nicely. I will definitely buy this again - and I was lucky to pick it up for a low price!
