Advantages: gorgeous clean piney fragrance, looks nice in your bowl and the price
Disadvantages: the child lock is not robust, and this may not be as powerful as some other cleaners available
I am fastidious about cleaning the toilet bowl in fact its probably one of the cleanest places in my flat! I cant bear using a dirty toilet it must look clean and shiny. I came across toilet duck fresh (which is the green bottle) purely by accident. I moved into a rented flat and there was some of this lying around so I gave it a try and have been buying it ever since.
-- What is it? --
Toilet duck is a 3 in one toilet cleaner which claims to kill germs, remove limescale and clean and freshen your loo. These are the claims and I would say it does exactly what it claims to do although, I cant see the germs so I will have to take their word for that. It does contain disinfectant so that should do the trick.
Where can I buy it and how much is it?
You can buy toilet duck in most household stores and supermarkets. It costs around £1.29 for a 750ml which I would say is a reasonable price for a good product. Some own brand makes in supermarkets are even more expensive than this. For a stronger more powerful cleaner you will pay a good bit more.
-- The packaging --
I use the green " fresh" bottle. The bottle is oblong in shape with a bended nozzle that you can easily fit under the rim of the toilet bowel. It has a picture of a duck on the front.
A Google search confused me though as they appear to have changed the appearance of this product. If you are looking in Tesco the bottle is now white with a green label for the fresh fragrance so If you are picking it up from the supermarket look out for this. You can still pick up the green bottle though as I managed to purchase this in my local B&M a few days ago.
The bottle has a child proof cap that you need to squeeze on both sides to open however, I would not say this is particularly robust. Its very easy to open so I would keep out of reach of children. If I can open it so easily so can they!
The instructions for use and the ingredients are on the back of the bottle.
-- The liquid --
The liquid itself is thick. Much thicker than your average household bleach. It has a very pleasing bright green colour which looks fresh in your toilet bowl. I am a visual creature and do like my cleaning products to look good so this fits the bill for me. The fragrance is piney fresh and drifts through your home when you leave it in the toilet bowl - this for me is its biggest selling point of toilet duck fresh.
- How do you use it? -
The instructions say to squeeze it around your toilet bowl. Which is very easy done using the perfectly shaped nozzle. Brush, flush, reapply. You are then advised to leave it for 60 mins and use the product 3 times a week.
-- My experience of toilet duck fresh --
I buy toilet duck fresh primarily for the piney fresh fragrance. It makes my bathroom smell very clean. The smell is strong so it does drift into my hallway but as it is a very pleasant aroma I am happy with that.
I wouldn't say I use this product to clean my toilet bowl fully three times a week as directed on the instructions. I give my bowl a full clean once a week and occasionally on an ad hoc basis if it needs it but not religiously three times a week. This to me seems a little excessive! However, I do sometimes just spritz toilet duck into the bowl without the cleaning and scrubbing element in order to get the lovely fresh smell.
It's great for cleaning your toilet bowl using a different product on the outside of the bowl and cistern this product is too thick, green and gloopy for these areas. Toilet duck brings my toilet bowl up clean and sparkly with no traces of limescale or unattractive residue.
Although, it says to leave the product in the bowl for 60 mins I certainly don't sit around with a stop watch chomping at the bit to flush that loo. I tend to just leave it in there until someone goes and uses the bathroom and flushes it away.
The instructions recommend to use a brush for cleaning. I personally don't keep a toilet brush in the house as I worry they might gather germs over time. I simply sprizs toilet duck under the rim and get under there with a pair of rubber gloves, a cloth and a strategically placed finger to run round the rim of the bowl a few times. I find this method removes any dirt - I hope! It certainly appears to work.
This product keeps my toilet bowl fresh, clean and sparkly. It is cheaper than other products that may be more heavy duty but the smell of this product keeps me coming back.
If you enjoy the smell of pine freshness and want a a toilet cleaner at a reasonable price give Toilet duck fresh a go.
Summary: a product that is user friendly and does the job
