when we bought a refill pack, one of the tubes had set into a powdery, opaque paste which went everywhere.Unfortunately the manufacturer refused to believe their was a problem. They refused to look into it unless I posted it to them, and avoided reassuring me that this chemical was safe to post! The other tube was OK, but it's a completely ineffective cleaner. It also looks pretty awful after a day or two, my mum wondered what on earth we had in the toilet!Avoid. And avoid other Johnson's products if you value customer service.
I had seen these in my Mums bathroom numerous times now and I believe that she has been using them for around two years. She always buys these so when I was looking for a toilet freshener that stays in the toilet to freshen after every flush I deicided to give these a try as they were half price in Morrisons. I paid something like £2.34 for the starter kit which has the dispenser and enough liquid for 6 treatments. I had a choice of fragrance which included options like ocean and pine but I opted for thhe fresh lime as I am a lover of strong scents and thought this would be nice in the bathroom.
To use the discs you need the special dispenser tube. You then push the end of the tube so that some of the product is dispensed onto the toilet bowl. This is where I encountered a slight problem - it took me a while to figure out how to use the dispenser and when I had figured it out there were ridges etc for the dispenser to pass through to enable the right measure of gel to be dispensed so this was quite difficult. When I had got a disk onto the toilet I could see that it wasn't perfectly round like my mums always were! Of course, practice makes perfect and I knew how to do it the next time so I was left with a proper disk.
I like these discs, because there is no cage or attachment to the bowl there is less chance of germs loitering and once the disc has ran out it simply has all been flushed away.
When I first apply these to the bowl I can detect a zingy lime scent and this usually sticks around for a few days but the gel lasts much longer with me usually having to replace the disk approximately once every four weeks.
When used these do help to keep the toilet bowl clean and after each flush they fill the bowl with bubbles which have a slight subtle lime scent and give a clean impression off.
I do like these fresh discs and think that they are an excellent way of keeping your toilet fresh and clean. My only small gripe is that the dispenser can be quite difficult to get to grips with and sometimes you will end up with more product that you intended.
I have used this 3 or 4 times now and I still have about a third left. I think if applied properly this will definitely have 6 doses in it so with practice I'm sure the refill packs will last as long as promised however if its your first pack you might end up with 5 doses rather than 6.
You can buy refill packs for these which is just the gel as you can keep hold of your tube. I like this as it means there is less wastage as you end up using everything in the box.
I like this product. I don't think I would pay full price for it at almost £5 because in my eyes that is just too much but when I picked this up for half price I did feel I got a bargain, recommended.
I was shopping in Morrisons and these gel dots were on offer for £1.99 so I thought I'd give them a go.
I purchased them and rushed home in the hope that the adverts were as truthful as they say they were. The gel dots come in a injection shaped dispenser.
You put the tip of the dispenser on to the side of the toilet, on the inside of the bowl, and push down. A small gel fills the tip of the dispenser and forms a nice round shape as shown on the box and in the adverts.
The initial smell is quite pleasent, this does dissipate fairly quickly once you start using it. The instructions say to flush your toilet to get the gel active.
After the first month, the excitement dies down and you start thinking what all the fuss was about.
There are better and cheaper products that will do a better job. You just have to hunt to find the bargains.
I have been having trouble in the downstairs cloakroom - because of the shape of the toilet bowl the rim blocks that hang over the edge tend to make the water from the flush splash out onto the floor. A better idea was needed............
When we were in Tesco some time ago we took a look around and found the Duck Fresh Discs. The price was £3.64 for 6 discs and the applicator which should last for up to eight weeks in total. I decided that this might be the solution to our problem. I was a little dubious as to whether these would remain stuck to the toilet bowl for the duration of their use but I figured that, if there was a problem, they would not still be selling them so I went for it.
What Do You Get?
Well the kit comes in a cardboard box with a picture of someone using the dispenser on the front together with details of the contents. There are four pictures on the side of the box in explanation of how to use these discs. On the back there are the usual warnings - wash your hands after use, don't get any in your eyes - the usual stuff.
I opened the box to find a clear tube with the six bright green discs within and a bright blue cap on the end. There was also a bright blue larger tube which would act as the plunger.
My initial problem was to find the instructions for use - OK it is obvious when you know but I wasn't quite sure at first. I finally spotted the instructions printed on the inside of the box which I found a bit unusual.
What Do You Do Then?
The blue outer tube has seven holes in a vertical line down the side and the gel dispenser has a sort of button the side.
Firstly I had to put the blue outer tube over the gel container and align the button with the lowest hole. Then I removed the cap off the end of the dispenser and put it safely to one side.
The next bit of the process was to place the open end of the dispenser against the toilet bowl in the position where I wanted the gel blob to be affixed. This obviously needs to be in a position where it will be covered with the water when the toilet is flushed.
To do this I had to push the plunger part down until the gel blob came out and the click of the button moving up into the next hole was heard. This wasn't as easy as I expected it to be and I had to push the button in so that it moved up a hole if you see what I mean. The arrangement of holes also means that only one gel blob will be dispensed at a time.
Once the blob has been dispensed the cap needs to be replaced on the end of the dispenser tube so that the remainder don't dry out or leak out. The contraption needs to be put away somewhere safe, out of the reach of children, until the next time it is needed.
I then had to flush the toilet to activate the gel.
The writing on the front of the pack promises that this is a four in one application. You will get a hygienic application, a product that cleans with every flush, an anti limescale action and a fragrance which will last for at least 700 flushes.
Well I have a bit of a problem with the application and it is a little messier than I thought it would be but it isn't too bad and that might well be my clumsiness anyway!
The toilet certainly remains nice and clean and I am pleasantly surprised that the gel blob stays in place flush after flush. Since we live in a soft water area limescale isn't really a problem for us so I can't really say whether this product makes a difference or not.
Each blob did indeed last just over a week, breaking up slowly as the days passed so this was what was promised too.
Now we come to the fragrance - allegedly lime zest - yuk! It smells nothing at all like lime, in fact it is actually a very strong chemical smell which isn't particularly pleasant at all. The only redeeming feature is that the smell does only activate when the toilet is flushed and it does get weaker as the life of the gel blob goes on. I am just glad that I put this in the downstairs cloakroom not in the main bathroom upstairs.
Well the product works well but the only positive thing that I can say about the smell is that it is marginally better than toilet smells!
I will use all of these little blobs now that I have bought them but I will not be buying this product again unless they can find a smell that doesn't assault my nostrils!
Lime? It doesn't smell like any lime that I have ever smelled!
I am a bit of a clean freak and I like to use lots of cleaning products as well as air freshners to keep my home smelling nice. I have use toilet duck fresh discs for a number of years. For those of you that haven't used them they are basically an alternative to the traditional cage type toilet cleaners. It therefore stops germs as there is no cage for them to cling onto and keeps your toilet fresher and cleaner for longer.
The fresh discs cost around £1.99 from most supermarkets and you get six discs in a packet. Each disc lasts about a week and a packet should give you an average of 600 flushes.
When you open the fresh disc it comes in two parts a blue cylinder and a tube containing the green gel. You simply click the gel containing tube into the blue cylinder. There are levels that click into place with each use so that you always dispense the right amount. There is also a cap to put back on the end of the dispenser to keep the gel fresh until the next use.
To use the fresh discs you simply apply to the side of your toilet bowl. It needs to be clean and dry for the gel to stick. One you click the applicator into place you simply remove it from the toilet bowl and left is a flower shaped blob of gel. Immediately you can smell the lime which has a plesant smell. I did however notice that the smell disappeared after about a day.
As you flush your toilet the water rund over the gel which is meant to then keep your toilet bowl clean and fresh as well as eliminating germs. Eventually as you flush more the gel starts to dissolve until eventually there is none left and you need to use a new disc.
After using this I can't say there was any noticable difference in the cleanliness of my toilet. I do however regularly clean it and put a load of bleach down there so it never really gets dirty. I just really like this for the peace of mind that it is keeping the loo germ free which can't be a bad thing, It also looks a lot nicer than unsightly rim blocks. I have noticed that the limescale doesn't build up as quickly so it is also effective at preventing this.
I always have one of these in my loo and I would recommend them I would give them 4 out of 5 mainly because I think the fragrance could last a little longer.
I'm not a fan of those caged rim blocks nor the cistern blocks and normally use a liquid toilet cleaner from the same company as this product is from and then give it a good scrub etc. However, these were on offer in my local wilko's so decided to give them a go. At the time they cost me £1.50 to say I was unimpressed with this product would be an understatement.
In the Box:
There are two tubes which you need to fit together to form the dispenser and the inner tube has enough gel to make six discs. Then simply take the cap off and dispense one disc onto the side of the toilet bowl where the water flow is at its best. The outer tube can be kept as refills are available.
In use and oppinion.
Well it is easy to use so there are no problems there and the gel disc has stayed in place so that hasn't been a problem for me either. The gel is, unfortunately, bright green and about the size of a 50p so not over sized. However, as far as I am concerned that is where the good points end.
The scent is quite strong and citrusy at first but after about two days this is gone. However, the citrus scent is massively artificial and there is a very strong chemical smell and this bares no resemblance to real citrus fruits at all. The chemical smell I should not really be surprised about but I would hardly call it a fresh scent.
There is little to no foaming action from the disc. This could be due to living in a hard water area but a normal rim block has given some foam so I would think this is supposed to as well. As for its cleaning power again this was not very impressive either. Marks which my regular liquid cleaner remove without need for the old loo brush were still there. Also this product did nothing to remove the limescale build up. This I have had to remove in between using the discs by the use of my regular liquid cleaner. Hence this is costing me more as I am using two cleaners in place of one. I have tried using two discs at a time once but apart from making the chemical citrus smell almost unbearable for two days there was little improvement in its cleaning power.
The bright green colour of the gel is hardly attractive and the blob of the disc is not the nicest thing to see. I knew the colour it would be when I bought it so I can only blame myself for this but perhaps a colourless gel would have been better as it would have done the job just as badly without the colouring
The gel tube is supposed to last about 6 weeks hence each disc will last a week in normal use. Well each disc has lasted about a week and a half as there is only two of us and we both work full time jobs. A family with children will probably find that these discs are used up far more quickly.
I have one disc left to use from this purchasing mistake after which I will be sticking to my regular liquid cleaner as at least this does the job it claims to do.
I have perhaps been generous in giving this product two stars which were mainly because it was easy to use and the gel has lasted as long as they claim it has but the utter lack of any real cleaning power and its inability to remove limescale has lost it marks.
I found this a reasonable product can be quite pricey, but I stock up when on special offer. available in 4 different scents now, but have only managed to find & use the green and blue. Makes my small bathroom smell fantastic with a simple flush of the loo. Only downfall I see it having is if stored lid doown product can leak also once gel disk is fitted to side of loo various toilet items can become stuck to the disk, having no option but to remove the disk all together.
Perhaps sounds a bit sad but I had been wanting to try this product for ages. I always saw this advertised on the television but in any Supermarket I looked for these I could never find them. I thought that was a bit odd, but it was only up until last week that I finally found these in my local Asda. They are up the Bleach aisle next to the Rimblocks for the Toilet.
These aren't cheap and 1 pack of these cost £3.49. Bit expensive surely? But Asda is selling 2 packs for £4 just now. I'm sure that 1 pack will last a good lenght of time, but no point in paying all that for just the 1 in my view.
This comes in a little box. This consists of 2 bits of plastic which you put together. With 1 of the plastic tube bits this comtains all the Gel for the discs and the other part goes over this tube and is kind of like the handle part.
How this works is that you put the end of this against the bit down the toilet. I suppose you can place this anywhere, but I put it on the left hand side. When this is against the Toilet then you push the button on the plastic bit and this pushes some of the Gel out. This sticks to the Toilet and just stays there. It goes into a little embossed pattern which looks alright. It is a really thick Gel.
This does a few functions. This scents your bathroom and everytime you flush then since the water runs over the gel then it releases some of the gel into the water which will flush around the toilet bowl and you get a little bit of foam down the toilet. Again there is a gentle scent from this. The smell from this one is lovely. It is a zingy, zesty scent and although it seemed pretty strong for the 1st day that I had used this, it gets fainter and just becomes a nice scent.
On the pack it claims that this should last an average of 600 flushes. Since it has only been on a short while then i'm not sure if this is right or not. I guess the way this works is that each time you flush it wipes a bit of this Gel away until there is none left.
Perhaps a bit expensive but since I paid £2 for this and this could possibily last a good few weeks then it's maybe worth it.
You can get this in 2 other scents apart from this one - a Marine one and another 1 I can't think of.
I have to say that I have not been impressed with this product and it is not something that I would recommend. Keeping your toilet nice and fresh is one of those regular jobs that I do not really enjoy, I have never been a fan of those fresheners that sit in a little plastic cage as I'm pretty sure my other half just uses them as target practice.
This is different as it comes with a dispenser and from this you squirt a disc of gel which sticks to the side of the toilet bowl, you will probably only want to buy this product if you have somewhere discreet to store it as it does rather resemble a sex toy so you might get some funny comments if you leave it in plain view. It is simple to operate, just a simple pull and push technique and a disc of gel is delivered, I did wonder whether it would stick or just slowly slide to the water below but it held itself in place with no worries.
I did wonder also whether the first flush would consign it to the water as well but in fact it hung around for between 8-10 days each time I used it. However in that time it did loose its colour and seemed to be no longer working however you ae still left with this thing stubbornly clinging on for dear like, in the end I found myself scrapping it off into a paper towel, I was rather worried that given how slow it was to dissolve that it could end up blocking a pipe.
For the first few days it did do a good job of cleaning the toilet and leaving it with a fresh smell all be it not the nicest of smells, rather sweet smelling with no distinctive smell that I could identify. Personally it is the worry that it might block a pipe when it is joined by other discs that has made me decide not to use it again. Plus of course it still gets used for target practice.
I bought the blue version of these fresh disks after seeing the adverts on the tv. I noticed they were quite pricey in some shops but managed to find one for £3 which I thought was a bargain. You get six gel disks in a pack so it's quite good value for money.
** First impressions **
At first I had no clue on how these disks would stick to the toilet or where to put them but there is an instruction manual on the back of the box , very handy!
As I stated earlier the product is often retailed quite pricey but if you shop around you'll get a good deal. Inside the box you get the holder and the gel which is already set up for you , you just need to slot them into place which is super easy!
** How to use the product **
The product is very easy to use , you simply slot the holder into place remove the cap for the gel to be able to stick to the bowl and simply push to click into place. You should aim to put the gel where the flow of the water is.
** Is it long lasting ? **
The product is quite long lasting although for me it did not last the " 600" flushes for the whole tube that it claimed.
It also smells so nice and fills the room up with the smell, I think I might try the green lime one next time!
** Would you buy it again? **
I definately would buy it again , it is much more hygenic compared to the cages in the other toilet cleaners. It simply flushes away when it's finished with and it saves a lot of time. It also saves a lot of money as it does last quite a while .
Well worth investing in one of these !
Thanks for taking the time to read
A friend told us of these as he knows I am very toilet proud so I thought I'd give it ago from his appraisal. My toilet is probably the most well looked after thing in my house! It has to be gleeming. It makes me feel sick if I use a toilet that smells or looks slightly unclean.
Duck fresh discs (SCJohnsons) are for odour elimination and to clean with each flush. The smell was not the most pleasant smell as it smelt of toilet cleaner. Your probably laughing at me but can't they come up with a fresh clean smell other than that toilet smell?
It does not clean at all! You only need one disc where the water flows and this lasts a week (600 flushes) I would say it lasts well up to 3 weeks. The last three I got fed up and stuck them all on just to see if it cleans better and still no different!
They were on offer at the time so this was even better! Usually they are £3 and I believe we purchased them for £2. After I have used these I would say they are worth paying anything less than a pound 'their rubbish'!
It comes in a small tube about 6cm long. This product you place onto the toilet then you click the green button and push it till it clicks into the hole and it places the gel like a stamp. I couldn't personally get on with doing it this way as it was a little hard holding it in the toilet whilst pushing, clicking and pulling!
I simply just clicked the button then placed it in the toilet which seemed to work as well as the way your suppose to do it.
The product it self is green and like a gel formulation. It did seem to be a little sticky and sometimes didn't want to stick to the toilet as it didn't break up that well from the tube of gel.
Overall I shall not be buying this again! And my score is 1 out of 5!
I was in B&M Bargains the other week and I came across these Toilet Duck Fresh Lime Zest Discs for £1.69, I hadn't used them before as any time I had seen them, they were about £4, I know, not too much but they are only toilet discs after all!!
Upon getting home and unpacking all the junk I bought! I took this up to the bathroom, with every intention of putting it into the cabinet.... Well like the big kid that I am, I had to try it out there and then!! I took the old rim block cage off and disposed of that in the bin. I opened up the little cardboard box packaging and slotted the two pieces together, one is the plunger and the other holds the green gel.
I then placed the holder onto the toilet bowl and pressed down on the plunger.
I was surprised to see just how easy and quickly it was to do, I took the plunger tube thingy away and was left with a little lime green coloured blob, slightly flower shaped, on the rim, I flushed the toilet as directed - this activates the disc, and that was it..... Job done!!
The smell it gave off was very zesty and fruity, the whole bathroom smelled off this, as it gives off a rather strong scent, not in the least bit unpleasant though I must add, it's very clean smelling in fact.
I thought that it would just slip down into the bottom of the toilet but I was proved wrong! It stays firmly in place and just dissolves over the days until it eventually needs replacing.
This isn't a problem though as the plunger thingy is loaded with 6 shots of discs, with each one lasting approximatly a week so you get 6 weeks of fragrance.... Bargain!
I have 3 little boys and 1 big boy!! This makes for not the most pleasant toilet in the world, but I found that with using the fresh discs, the lack of the rim block cage, kept the toilet looking much cleaner...... Seeing as I am the only one to notice how gross they leave the toilet and I am the only one who cleans it, this made my job much easier.
No germ ridden cage to dispose of!!
I haven't looked back since and get these in when I notice the plunger thing running low, this is simple to see as the part of the tube that holds the gel is clear plastic, allowing you to see the gel and there's little raised dots on the side, you put a bit of pressure on these to get the plunger moving, but it also allows you to keep track.
It's very easy to store away too, as it has it's own lid and this acts as a stand so you can stand it up in the cabinet or on a shelf.
I'm a total clean freak and hate nothing more than a dirty smelly bathroom. I've tried loads of toilet cleaners, air fresheners, pot pouri but none of them compare to the fresh clean fragrance of these lime zest discs.
Not only do they keep your toilet clean they have a wonderful strong fragrance which fills the whole room. As they are a gel disc with no plastic cage they do not harbour nasty germs like other toilet cleaners.
The gell comes in a fancy applicator tube which is designed to dispense just the right amount of gel to create one disc at a time (tube contains enough gel for 6 discs).
The first time I used the applicator the gel didn't come out in a perfect disc as seen in the advert - more like a pointy blob which I have to admit didn't look attractive. However, I soon got the hang of it and a perfect disc was easily achievable. The disc can be applied discreetly under the toilet rim and will gradually dissolve with each flush. The applicator is also good as you dont have to touch the toilet at all so it's much more hygienic.
The life span of each disc can vary depending on the usage of the toilet. For example in a regularly used toilet one disc will last approximately seven days leaving no residue. However, I have found that one disc can last up to four weeks in a less used toilet without reducing it's effects ot freshness.
Overall this is a quality toilet cleaner.
My Mum was actually the one who introduced me to these Fresh Discs, I was in her bathroom and noticed firstly that there was a lovely fresh citrus smell and secondly there was an odd green blob in the toilet bowl! She explained what it was and I was intrigued so I popped out and bought some for my place.
These are a great idea, I don't like normal toilet cleaner blocks as they just seem a bit... grim so the idea of not having to change any cages or what-have-you really appealed to me. The Fresh Disc is a gel 'blob' that sticks to the bowl.
The box is very bright and eye-catching in green and blue. The box tells us that it is 'Easy to Use; Fresh Lasting Scent; 1 Full Dispenser Lasts Up To 600 Flushes, 1 Disc Lasts Up To 100 Flushes'. There are directions for use on the back and a warning that it contains Limonene and may cause an allergic reaction.
The applicator is quite unique, a clear plastic tube with the green gel in with a blue cap on the bottom to stop the gel touching anything and a blue plastic holder with holes up one side. You click the gel tube into the holder until it stops at the first hole.
To apply the gel to the toilet, hold it against the bowl and push in the white 'button' that is sticking out of the hole on the holder. This will cause the button to pop down the holder into the next hole and a gel disc will be left on the bowl. The disc is about 4cm in diameter and quite flat with a kind of star shape left from the applicator.
The smell, like I mentioned at the start, is lovely and fresh; very lemony and clean. Every time you flush a little more of the lemony smell is released and the water is left with nice clean looking bubbles in it- that sounds odd but I find it comforting that it seems to be doing something!
I'm not sure about the claim that it lasts 100 flushes per disc, there are only 2 of us in our flat and I don't think that my fiancé has crazy toilet flushing parties when I leave him alone and a disc will last about 4 or 5 days. I'm not really sad enough to really analyse it but they don't seem to last as long as I'd like considering that they're not that cheap.
These cost about £3.00 for '6 Weeks' worth of product. I always buy this when it is on special offer so will only pay £1.50-£2.00.
I do like this product but I wish it lasted a little longer!
This product is a freshener for your toilet that sticks to the inside of your toilet bowl and help keep it smelling nice and fresh.
I believe the RRP of these are around £3 which is quite expensive for what they do, however if you shop around you can regularly get them for the £2 mark or sometimes even lower. I usually get mine from home bargains at around £1.50.
They come in a cardboard box but the actual product comes in a blue plastic tube which you have to put together (its not difficult don't worry)
On the tube there aren6 bigger holes on the side and each time you use the product it will move down to a different hole.
Coming out of the blue tube is a clear plastic tube with the product inside, and then at the bottom of this is a blue cap; if you remove the cap you will see a green coloured gel.
To use the product you take off the cap and place the base flush to your toilet, you then push in the button and move the button down a hole, you then remove the tube away from the toilet and it will leave a circular green blob stuck to your toilet.
The gel it quite sticky to try not to get it on your hands, if you do you must wash them straight away, as you remove the cap, you can immediately smell the strong fragrance of lime, it smells very fresh and clean and this transfers into your toilet.
The best place I have found to put in is at the front of your toilet where the water falls, as soon as the water hit's the gel you can immediately smell the fresh scent.
I also noticed that even without flushing the toilet if the door is shut in the bathroom when I open it you can really smell the toilet duck.
I can't say there are any negatives about this product, it sticks realty well to your toilet and you needed touch anything to its very clean and germ free.
The only really negative is the RRP price, as I think £3 is very expensive but like I said if your shop around you can get it for half the price
The other thing I like about this product is how long it lasts, each flush you get the same freshness and after roughly 50 flushes you can then change it, and there are 6 holes so it lasts ages!
I really good new invention and I have never gone back to caged toilet fresheners.
Cleans and freshens the toilet bowl / 6 Disks.
