I spilled purple polish on my carpet at home in my bedroom and we move soon so nothing could be wrong with the house, I bought this and it saved my life from telling my parents!
This spray is amazing. I have a cream rug and any spills are marks clean up brilliantly! I would recommend for anyone to keep a can of this in their home in case of any accidents. I once spilt a whole glass of coca cola on my rug. But fear not! A quick mop up for the excess that had not already soaked in and then a quick squirt of this foam and done. I recommend some scrubbing if it is a heavy stain or mark and then like magic ? there is no staining! It is so simply with very little effort required. Just hoover over when you next do your cleaning and its great. This product works so much better than any own brand cleaning foams that I have tried in the past. I use this all the time for any little spills or marks and this has kept my cream rug in mint condition.
I cannot get enough of this stuff. In my opinion it is an absolute god-send! We have a sweet, beautiful, fantastic dog named Sebbe. He is a really wonderful dog. We also have ducks. Over the winter the garden has become exceptionally muddy due to their love of throwing water everywhere and then splashing around in it in their big flat feet. The dog then goes out in the garden and runs through all the mud and gets covered. Most times we catch him and wipe his feet down with a towel, but sometimes the little monkey manages to slip past us and charge into the front room muddy paws and all, and rampages around the room all over our lovely beige carpets (he gets excited when he gets wet feet and has to do this running around ritual). We did pick mottled carpets on purpose to hide the dirt because dogs = dirt, however it's not equipped to disguise huge streaks of mud!
This is where the fantastic Vanish Carpet and Upholstery Mousse comes in handy. It is so very easy to use. You just hold the spray about 6" or so away from the muddy patch on the carpet and spray away. The mousse foams up on contact with the carpet. Completely cover the area and then get a damp rag and scrub away. The amount you have to scrub of course depends on how bad the stain is. When I have scrubbed the mousse into the stain and the area looks clean I leave it to dry and then all you have to do is go over the area a little later with the hoover (although I admit I don't always do this straight away, I usually wait until I am going to hoover anyway).
The Vanish mousse, works really well. It is great on mud and gets rid of it really easily. It also works wonders on other tougher stains, like oily food residues, dark coloured drinks and many more things. The mousse works everytime and I have never had an occasion where I have used it on a stain and it hasn't worked. I would reccomend that you do a little test patch on your carpets and sofas etc when you first get the mousse before you have to use it. Do this in an inconspicuous area because the mousse can stain or lighten certain fabrics, so it's a good idea to check that it is ok to use on whatever you may want to spray it on.
Looks wise, you can't really miss anything from the Vanish range as it is all bright pink, so you will have no problem finding it in the supermarket. I think the price is reasonable for what I use it for, cleaning up little patches of mud or stains every now and again. If you use it like this it lasts for ages. It costs roughly £4.40 a time. The fact that the Vanish advert suggests that you could spray your whole carpet with their products to clean it all is frankly a little ridiculous because it would cost a fortune to do this! Better to use a carpet cleaner for large areas.
All in all I give the Vanish Carpet and Upholstery Mousse a 9/10. It works fantastically and gets rid of some really tough stains aswell as it being good for general cleaning. It is reasonably priced and easy to use. I mark it down slightly for the fact that if you don't do test patches, you may find that it will stain certain fabrics.
We've got laminate flooring nearly all the way through the house but have got rugs in nearly all the rooms to take the chill off the floor. Last week we had a Chinese and like a prat my dad gave my 2 year old sister a spare rib to hold..... of course in a minute she'd got bored of it and put it down in the closest place which was the brown and beige rug in the living room. My mum went mad and send my dad straight to the 24 hour Tesco to get some stain remover.
He come back with Vanish Mousse because we've used that loads of times before and know it works.
You just hold the can about 15cm from the stain and press the button down to release the foam. Once you've covered the stain with the form you use a damp cloth and work the mousse into the stain, then when it's completely dry you can vac it all up.
The mousse is white so it's easy to see where you've sprayed it, it splatters a bit when it's coming out of the tin but that can't be helped and it's not a problem to get it up with the vac after.
I think it works wicked. It got the spare rib sauce out of the rug with no problem, it did take 2 goes to get the very last pinky smudge out but look how strong spare rib sauce is and I reckon it did a brill job to get it out at all.
I used it to clean the rug in my room last night, it's a white rug and gets grubby quick. This time I covered the whole rug with the foam and used a wetter cloth to rub it in, it took a couple of hours to dry but when I put the vac over it it's come up spotless!
I think this Vanish is brill stuff and I'm glad we've got this tin in the cleaning cupboard because you never know when accidents are going to happen.
With three young boys aged 5 and under in our house some kind of carpet cleaner is a must. Up until having children it is something that might have come out of the cupboard once a year for the odd spilt cup of tea but nowadays it makes an appearance at least once a month.
Vanish Carpet and Upholstery Mousse is the one we use on our house. Three children and lots of cream carpets are not a good combination. Spilt drinks, gruby hand marks, felt tip pens, even sick........you name it and it has probably needed to be cleaned up at one point in our house. Vanish works every time. Most recently my fourteen month old got his hands on my make up, blusher all over my cream bedroom carpet, nightmare! I really didn't expect Vanish to clean this up but it did, once the carpet had dried you could not tell the carpet had been red a few hours earlier.
Vanish Carpet and Upholstery Mousse is a new formula which delivers improved stain removal of problem stains, in a fast, effective way without excessive wetting. It is easy to use. For stains you just shake the can well, holding upside down spray the mousse about 15cm away and use a sponge or cloth clean the stain away. This penetrates the stains and loosens the dirt. When the stain is dry you need to vacuum the area.
The mousse comes in a bright pink can, the size I have is 400ml but I think you can buy different sizes. The one I buy costs around £2.50 from Wilkinsons.
Vanish is a reputable brand and with the products I have bought I can understand why, sometimes you just can't cut corners and you have to buy the best. I've used Vanish for years and every time it has cleaned the stains from my carpets, I will be sticking with this product because I know it works and it is the best.
Vanish Carpet and Upholstery Mousse......
Since moving into our flat a couple of years ago now we have had laminate flooring which is very handy especially as I am rather accident prone and Jack being a toddler is just a messy stain waiting to happen. However In the front room we do have a rather large beige and light brown rug along with the bedrooms which are carpeted with a cream coloured flooring thus this does need cleaning from time to time.
I have always used 1001 stain remover and found this to be adequate but the rug in the front room had become so encrusted with play doh and jam that I found this wasn't working as good as it was on the smaller lighter stains. So this said I decided to have a proper look at the different carpet cleaners that were around and came home from Tesco's with this Vanish Carpet Cleaner. It did cost slightly more than the 1001 spray which I usually pay around £3 odd for this one cost around the £5 region but the bottle was a lot bigger.
You get a large spray can containing 600ml and the design of the bottle is the same as most of the Vanish range being a bright pink colour. I think they have of late made improvements to the cleaner and it now boasts having "intelligence foam plus!" what ever that means!
The directions for use are very easy to follow and all you have to do is shake the can, hold it 80cm above area that you are treating, work in with a damp cloth and then leave two hours before hoovering out. This is very simple and is exactly what I did the first time I used it. I had a few small areas of carpet in the bedroom that I wanted to clean up and one wasn't in a very noticeable place so I decided to do that part first hoping that if any untoward reaction happened that it wouldn't be seen. However no reaction happened and it worked a treat and the carpet looked clean as new! In fact it seemed to work so well that it made the area around the part that I had cleaned look like that needed a clean too! So of course I ended up on hands and knees more or less cleaning the whole bedroom!
I left the rug in the front room till last as it was the biggest job and I thought that as I was feeling particularly NOT in a cleaning mood that I would skip the section of instructions where you should work the cleaner into the carpet/rug with a damp cloth. I merely sprayed the entire rug (thickly) with the Vanish Mousse and left it for the two hours. By the time I actually remembered that the carpet mousse was left on it was probably nearing 3 hours so I rushed to hoover the remnants of the mousse away. I wasn't holding out hopes that this would make the rug spotless but I at least hoped that it would take away most of the muck that seemed to be clinging on to it.
As luck would have it, it worked! After hoovering the rug was still slightly damp (and looked it) but after leaving it to dry over night with no one treading on it you could really see the difference and the beige sections of the rug were beige again and not the grubby brown they had been before I had sprayed the mousse on. I was completely pleased with the outcome. The play doh had lifted clean off and left no trace and the rug itself smelled much nice too!
Because I had sprayed so much of the mousse on to the rug (it is a large one) there isn't really that much left of the can but I would think it is enough to tackle any smaller marks and stains that I have to clean off in the near future. I think that £5 seemed steep at the time of buying this can but because of the results it was money well spent.
The Vanish Mousse works well as it says it does, it easy to use and smells nice. I think I will continue to buy Vanish Carpet Cleaner from now on rather than reverting back to the less powerful action of the 1001 cleaner.
I can only award a five star rating to this product as I found nothing wrong or disappointing with it. It most certainly deserves a high recommendation and I have told quite a few people already about how well it worked!
I do hope this has been of some help/interest to you.
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
VANISH CARPET AND UPHOLSTERY MOUSSE
I felt that I should write a review for this product, because I feel it may have saved mine and my daugher's life and I am indebited to it!!!
***What can it do?***
We moved into a new house before Christmas and it has beige carpets - everywhere. I felt quite daunted at first but realised that it could actually improve my cleaning routine. We have a golden labrador and in my old house with blue carpets, I could have followed her around with a hoover all day and it would still have looked a mess. Beige carpets, problem solved, now I could hoover like normal people. I felt smug until...
My daughter had been doing her homework and as they were getting ready for bed, I noticed she hadn't tidied her pencil case away. I picked it up and noticed blue spots on the carpet and sofa - oh, no, a blue ink cartridge had leaked out.
I may have started hyperventilating - it is all a bit hazy now! I ran to the kitchen, grabbed a clean cloth and the vanish and set to work. I shook the can and spayed it directly onto the stain. It comes out like white shaving foam and carefully rubbed the foam into the stain. Meanwhile my daughter got a bowl of water, so that I could dampen the cloth and attempt to rinse the area.
The foam works into the carpet and at first it appeared to just be a white and blue mess, but gradually the foam appeared to dissipate and magically the ink began to weaken and disappear. I repeated the process once more and the area now just looked a bit damp and roughed up.
I have to say that studying the instructions afterwards, I realise that I did not follow the instructions to the letter. You are supposed to hold the can 80 away, but as it was a tiny area, if I had done this it would have gone all over. You are supposed to leave it for 2 hours and then vacuum once dry. I waited until the morning to do this.
In the morning I came down and there was no sign of the ink. I hoovered and magically it looked like nothing had happened. I didn't have as much success on the sofa - there were still slight marks, but as it is a blue sofa and is quite old, I could live with this. My main concern was the expensive carpet - I just couldn't have hidden it.
It lasts ages, I have had it in the cupboard for the best part of a year and use if for all kinds of spills.
Just to say that at first when you spray it, it looks horrendous, like you have made it worse. As you work it in and then leave it, the appearance quickly improves.
You have to be careful not to work the area too much, as you can mess up the pile of the carpet. You have to trust it will work and let it get on with the job by itself.
Needless to say, my daughter will now no longer bring her pencil case into the living room and will be more careful in future. Nobody but us two, ever knew that we nearly had a beige blue spotted carpet!!
I will give it 5 out of 5, because even though my sofa wasn't perfect, the carpet more than made up for it!!!
Even though I was rushing I still wore gloves.
By the way I think I may have been a tad dramatic at the start!
I bought mine ages ago, so I don't know what I paid, but I think it is around £4.50 from most major supermarkets - but it does last a very long time!! It did afterall save me from having to sort out a new carpet.
I tried this product after I had heard members of family go on about it. It cost £1.69 and I was told you don't need a lot, so it was worth a try. I had a bad stain on my bedroom carpet. It is a deep red colour and my boyfriend has managed to spill a whole pint of fresh orange on it. These 2 colours don't really mix well and I was on the look out for a good cleaner. My mum told me I should moisten the carpet first as the mousse would be absorbed easier into the carpet that way. I done this and massaged the mousse in, left for 5 minutes and the stain was inproved. I done this for a few days in a row and I can't see the stain at all anymore. I suppose that is the point though. Nowadays I tend to use this product perhaps every 2 weeks. The carpet hasn't has any spills on it, but I find that the mousse keeps the house looking that bit cleaner.
Vanish Carpet and Upholstery Stain Remover Mousse is a godsend in my house; my carpets don’t have a hope, in staying clean, with three kids. Between them they have quite a few accidents with dropping food and spilling drinks, but I have to say that adults can rack up a few accidents too. If you are using on a fresh stain, mop up as much of the spillage as possible, then just apply mousse about 15cm above the stain and rub in and allow it to dry then Hoover up. If applying to an older stain, moisten first. Heavy stains may require a second application to remove stain. We have a get together on bonfire night, where we have grated cheese, jackets sausage and baked beans, and the mess in the morning is terrible, grated cheese trodden right into the carpet, but this carpet cleaner is not afraid of any thing. Vanish mousse is Ozone friendly, CFC Free and it is suitable for use on wool carpets.
Before I discovered Vanish mousse I was forever having to take the cushions off our suite to wash, what a pain!!! they seemed to fit on just right and was so tight to get on and off!!! then I discovered vanish mousse, what a godsend!! This stuff is brilliant, you just spray on stain, leave for a few seconds and wipe off with a damp cloth, easy!!! It really does remove anything, pen marks, coffee, chocolate, so far we havn't been unable to remove anything. It can also be used on carpets, just spray on, wipe with a damp cloth and vacuum when dry, carpets will look like new again!!! For about £2.70 for a 400ml can it's really good value and lasts ages.
This iis a vital part of the upkeep of our house. With 2 children and a dog trampling all sorts of dirt and food into the carpets and sofa, we use this at least once a week. For any spills or stains or ground in dirt, you remove as much as possible, spray on foam, and work around the stain with a damp cloth. From our experience, I would also say not to wet the stain too much, as then the foam can be hard to get rid of, ie foam spreads more than the stain! Also leave it a while, and some stains take a second application. Vanish has only let us down twice, once for baby vomit, (couldn'yt get rid of the smell) and once for the red sauce from a chinese. Thats it, for pen marks, coffee particularly, horrible stuff brought in on shoes, split milk etc, its brilliant and i do think our suite wouldn't have lasted as long, looking as clean as it does, without this Vanish mousee.
