“ Brand: Vanish / Type: Upholstery Cleaner / Category: Cleaning & Disinfectant „
If you check back on my previous reviews, you will note that I did a review of 1001 carpet shampoo. I feel that both that and Vanish Carpet Shampoo need to be compared as they pretty much do the same thing. Their instructions on how to use it are similar aswell.
So who are Vanish? Well they are a pretty well known brand and sell themselves as the leading cleaning product for carpets aswell as laundry cleaning.
For Vanish Carpet and Shampoo cleaner, the instructions are layed out by diagrams on the bottom. Blot the stain first (IE if you spill wine) then apply the product. Allow to soak in for 5 minutes and then simply rub with a cloth. Only problem is that it does not say what type of cloth and whether it should be wet or dry. I go with a wet sponge.
What I like about this product is that a nice thick foam comes out from the nozzle. I then use my fingers to cover the area and gently rub the foam into the carpet. It builds up a nice froth which the excess stays on your fingers but its not a problem.
By the time you return after 5 minutes the foam has gone, with the area slightly damp. I then use my sponge and rubber both horizontal and vertical to make sure that the product gets into all spaces. The foam then builds up again with the mixture of slightly wet sponge and the rubbing. You can start to see the result straight away with the area becoming cleaning.
Just allow it to dry and then hoover over to get the carpet back upto the "fluffy" style that was there before the stain.
Results, well speak for themselves. The stain has gone. Now when I need to compare it to 1001, its easy to see. Why? Because the stain that 1001 was tried on and did a poor job, the Vanish product was able to get the stain out. I cannot really fault the product and despite the cost being abit more than 1001, its worth every penny.
I bought this once, when I couldn't find any 10001 Carpet Shampoo. There's no comparison between them - this didn't work very well at all - the stain, whatever it was, could not be removed even after using a great deal of liquid, and a great deal of hard scrubbing. I guess the difference may be that 1001 contains TETRAPOTASSIUM PYROPHOSPHATE and OLEFIN SULPHONATE - whereas Vanish doesn't.
I wouldn't usually by carpet cleaners and shampoo's as they don't really work in my opinion and from past experiences. The main problem with carpet cleaners and shampoo's is that they don't suit some carpets and they can damage colour and the fibres.
You may think that the only way to get rid of a dirty stained carpet infested with bacteria is too either get rid of it and purchase a brand new one or alternatively, you could purchase an expensive carpet shampooer.
But now there's a simple non - expensive solution, 'Vanish Hand Shampoo for Carpets.' This brilliant formula is great for reaching deep down into your carpets fibres, removing dirt and bacteria. It also de - odourises your carpet to get rid of any foul smells and odours. It leaves your carpet smelling and looking clean and fresh.
Vanish also produce and sell a range of other great high quality products that can be used in the home to remove stains, odours, grime, dust and dirt!
So get down to your nearest store and buy yourself a bottle of Vanish Hand Shampoo for your carpet today and see the briliant results for yourself!
In my point of view, this product is brilliant and all the good describing words you possibly imagine. It works for me and gets rid of the dirt and grime in my carpet too. This product also improves the overall look of your carpet!
Underneath my sink I always have a bottle of 1001 carpet cleaner but a month or so ago I completed a product test on a Vanish product for a survey company. Although I had seen and heard of Vanish I had never used it before, choosing to stick to 1001 the product I know best.
1001 carpet cleaner comes in a bright yellow plastic bottle, a colour that makes itself noticed! Vanish have the same theory and their product range comes packed in a shocking pink which is hard to mistake too.
Fashion dictates that plain carpets are the `in thing`, up until a few months ago I had a patterned carpet in my lounge but have recently replaced it with a plain wool Berber.
The patterned wool carpet accepted anything and always bounced back, muddy paws, dirty shoes, squashed biscuit after my little nephew had visited, you name it and I scrubbed it off!
After having tried the Vanish Laundry product instead of replacing my 1001 I decided to try some Vanish carpet cleaner.
One of the first things I checked was that it was suitable for wool carpets which it was, but they do advise you to check for colourfastness first.
I was surprised to learn that you cannot use Vanish cleaner on a suite with a velvet pile, I often rub my three piece suite over with 1001 to keep it as free from marks as possible so it was a disappointment that I couldn't use Vanish for the same job.
Vanish describes itself as being good for cleaning large areas of carpet by hand. It is very rare that I do anything but wipe away a mark or just clean a small patch. Before trying it on my lounge carpet I thought I would clean the bottom two or three treads of the stairs, so I vacuumed them and then ran some warm water into a bucket and added a small amount of Vanish.
It doesn't have that good build up of foam that 1001 gives, so when you apply it with a sponge or a brush it seems to be `wetter`, of course that means it takes longer to dry out.
The bottom three treads of the stairs came up well, the pile on the carpet was clean and had raised up well, giving the carpet a new and fresh look.
The Vanish had a reasonably pleasant smell and applied easily.
When the shampooed area has completely dried then you vacuum as normal.
You only need a spot of Vanish to make up a small amount for small stain removal so the bottle will go a very long way.
The end results were pleasing but I wished I had noticed before I bought it that it couldn't be used on upholstery with pile.
One thing that I missed was the foam that you get when you use 1001 carpet cleaner, it does dry quicker using that method.
Vanish cleaner is effective and copes admirably with the task but given the choice I will continue to use 1001 because that way I can clean both my carpets and upholstery with the same product.
Vanish also do a Powershot cleaner, an Oxi Action carpet and upholstery cleaner, a high traffic area powerfoam and acleaner that can be used in machines.
A 400ml plastic bottle of Vanish cost me £1.56 from Sainsburys.

Vanish now have a good range of stain removal products, from in wash treatment to carpet cleaners. My favourite of their products and one which I always keep handy in the house is their 3 in 1 carpet and upholstery cleaner.
This product, like all the Vanish products, comes in a bright pink colour plastic bottle. The label on the front has the Vanish Logo printed in big blue letters and the back label contains loads of useful info about the product. There is a screw on cap which is the only let down about the product for safety reasons. The bottle contains 450 mls and can be recycled.
The liquid inside the bottle is a thin watery white liquid. The bottle is full right to the top and there is a very mild fruity smell from the product, almost more like a shampoo for hair than for carpets!
Vanish has an active oxygen formula which gets deep into carpets and loosens dirt and lifts even the toughest of stains.

What Do I Think?
I always keep a bottle of Vanish in the cleaning cupboard. I do not use it so much for over all cleaning but when I do it gives a great result. I mainly use it when one of my children spill something like juice. I have had amazing results from vanish and highly recommend it.
Vanish is available in shops and supermarkets. I usually buy mine from a poundshop so its an idea to check there for it before you purchase from the supermarket.
