Advantages: Easy to use., Reasonably priced
Disadvantages: Didn't get the Stain out!
This is a sad story about a nasty accident that befell a favourite top of mine. It concerned a freak incident with a portion of Chicken Tonight Sizzle and Stir Lemon Chicken. It is a long and very boring story, but I will skip all that and get to the reason for writing this opinion. One of my favourite items of clothing was splashed while serving some of the Lemon chicken. It is a chicken dish in a yellow sauce and the sauce seemed pretty strong because it also turned the pan and plates yellow and it took quite a good soak to get them clean.
The favourite top is a lilac and white number with a star of lilac sequins on the front...this is essential to the opinion, because it explains why I had to be careful washing it. I decided not to risk anything harsh and abrasive, like dipping in a bucket of bleach and hoping for the best, and decided to get a proper stain removal product.
I went to my local Wilkos and bought some Vanish Tabs for the bargain price of £1.49. I checked the details on the front of the pack before I purchased and they seemed to be exactly what I needed. They just went in the wash with my normal detergent and worked their magic from inside. It seemed simple, convenient and took the minimum amount of effort: A product right up my street! Anything that is reasonably priced and is simple to use has got to be for me.
I picked up a pack, paid and went home. It was here that I realised that it was a very good job I had checked the instructions while I was in the shop. My packet had instructions in three languages, none of which were English, as are the ingredients so I have no idea if my Vanish Tabs are dangerous or not. For this reason I can't tell you what the product contains, but I do now known that the Czech word for ingredients (or for what something comprises of) is Slozeni. Very useful, but doesn't help the stain removal!
To give you a taster here is the first two steps of what the instructions said to do
1; TABLETU VYJMETE Z OBALU. 2; VLOZTE JEDNU TABLETU DO BUBNU PRACKY.
I repeat ~ I was glad I had previously read some instructions because I gave up trying to understand after that. I don't know if I would have known otherwise, but I think the pictures give most of the stages away. I think this set of instructions were in Czech!
All I needed to do now was wash the garment and check out the results. I put the tablet in the little bag with my Persil Tablets (as per instructions....that's what it looked like on the picture!), set the washing machine up according to the washing instructions on the top and switched the machine on. I waited anxiously (well I went out shopping and came back in an hour, but I was a bit nervous) for the cycle to end.
The machine stopped spinning and I took out the top to see what had happened. Unfortunately the stain had faded but had by no means gone. I was very disappointed because I had been led to believe that the product would remove it completely, or at least go a long way to making the mark go away. It hadn't faded a great deal at all and the top was still too dirty to wear. I was expecting much better results and it didn't seem much better than when I have just washed marked items in my normal detergent. It certainly hadn't made it good enough for me to wear again without further washing!
I don't know if the stain was just too bad for the Tabs to cope with, but I wouldn't recommend Vanish Tabs from the experience that I have had with them. They cost roughly the same price as my normal washing tablets and I'm sure that I would have got the same results if I had stuck to them. It wasn't the fault of Vanish that I couldn?t understand what the package said, but it's their product that didn't do the job it was bought to do.
My stain and my Lemon chicken are not gone and not forgotten. For now though, I will be steering clear of Vanish Tab
s and will be telling others that they were of no help to me. They weren't up to the job!
