Vanish Powerfoam fresh and clean is a high traffic carpet cleaner. I went down to Asda in search of a carpet cleaner that will make my carpet look nicer as we have a dog and two children so the carpet does get a bit of a state at times. I spotted this on the shelf priced at £3.50 and as it looked easy to use and makes some great claims about how great it makes your carpet look I thought I'd give it a go.
The foam comes in a 600ml spray can with the Vanish logo and a pink lid. The packaging tells me that the foam removes five times more dirt than vacuuming alone and gives long lasting carpet freshness. To use the foam, shake well and spray 80cm away from the carpet. The foam then needs to be worked into the carpet using a sponge or soft brush. This then needs to be left for 2 hours or until the foam is dry.
The first thing I noticed about the foam was it's smell, really clean smelling with a floral hint. Definitely a smell that I'd love to stick to my carpet. The foam sprays on evenly in a thin line of spray so there is no overspill or risk of spraying too much, it is also really difficult to get this on any furniture etc so that is a definite plus point. I then used a sponge (make sure it's colourfast) to work the foam into the carpet which was very easy, this left the carpet slightly damp. I waited the 2 hours and vacuumed over the top. I'm really pleased with the results, my carpet looks clean and a lot newer than it previously did. We are in need of new carpet to be honest but the results from using this foam have meant I can put it off a little longer. The smell of the foam hasn't been as strong as I'd have liked it to be but there's definitely a difference and most importantly to me all dog smells have completely gone.
I'll give this 5 stars. Easy to use, and does what it claims to.
I had a group of friends round a few months back and someone accidentally tipped a glass over with red wine in it, it was a nightmare as I have a cream carpet and I panicked. I know of a few brands of carpet cleaner out there but one I didn't know of was Vanish, I thought they only did stain removal on clothes but it does make sense that they do it for carpets also, this is called Powerfoam. I was a bit unsure about buying it as I have always been quite loyal to another brand of carpet cleaner but after using a liquid spray that hadn't really worked, I knew I needed a foam of some kind to get this stain gone.
This Vanish Powerfoam comes in a tall bright pink can with a pink lid to fit in with the Vanish brand. It has the Vanish logo on the front and has the word Powerfoam as well as it saying 'High Traffic Carpet Cleaner'. It has instructions on how to use it and it is clean and fresh as well as there being a few warnings on here too. It aims to have 5 x more dirt removal and odour neutralisation, it is very distinct and stood out on the shelf as all I wanted to see was the words carpet cleaner and these stood out right away to me. You get 600ml of product in a tall can which is good value and it should last a while.
VANISH POWER FOAM
So, to start with, this has warnings before using it, always test a hidden area for colourfastness especially on wool carpets and use it often to get the best results. Do not use this on 'velvet' materials, brocade or surfaces unsuitable for wet cleaning. This should be used as said on the can keep it out of reach of children and do not breathe spray. Avoid contact with skin and eyes, if contact is made with eyes then rinse right away with water and seek medical advice, if swallowed also seek medical advice. Use this in a well ventilated area and keep out of sunlight and hot temperatures, apart from all of this it is really straightforward.
To begin with, find your stain and shake it well then spray, this foam needs to be worked in using either a mop a sponge or a cloth, I usually use a cloth to really rub into the stain. This now needs to be left for two hours and once dry you need to vacuum over the area to ensure it is back to normal. The foam is white and smells quite soapy but fresh and a nice clean smell, it is pleasant and that is what I wanted. The foam was so easy to work into the stain and the carpet to really get cleaning. I rubbed vigorously to make sure it would come out and once the carpet dried I did exactly what it said.
At first, the carpet didn't look amazing so I did do it a second time the whole process again, it really depends on what stain you are dealing with though. After the second time I vacuumed again and then it looked better, still not ok, the strange things was I did nothing for a few days and then I came in and noticed the stain wasn't obvious anymore, whether it hadn't dried properly and that was why it didn't look amazing. It has now gone and looks just like it did before which is superb, I hadn't honestly respected results as good as this and I am very impressed with this product, it really has worked for me.
If you have a situation like I did where there is a spillage on a carpet and you think it won't come out then this is for you. It just takes perseverance and patience to get a stain like wine or any dark liquid out of a carpet. This does work and it will get the carpet back to normal but I always find it is best to get a stain right away rather than leaving it to dry in. I started working on my stain the next day though and it still came out fine it just takes a lot of rubbing but the good thing is my carpet hasn't gotten a worn look and has come out of it looking fine and the carpet now smells clean to so it is win, win.
INGREDIENTS: <5%: Aliphatic Hydrocarbons, Anionic Surfactants, Non-Ionic Surfactants, Polycarboxylates, Phosphates, Perfume.
To buy this Powerfoam you can buy it in all supermarkets, I got mine at Tesco where a 600ml can costs £4.60, it certainly isn't cheap but once you have it in, it will last you a while.

This is a review of Vanish Power Foam For Carpets, one of the staple products in our cleaning cupboards. We have been using this for years on our carpets and it is a real life saver when you have one of those 'oh no!' moments.
What is it?
The foam comes in a tall spray can, which is bright pink as is most of the Vanish range. You spray the foam directly on to the carpet then scrub and vacuum it to get it clean.
The can is easy to activate with a shake and it sprays out quickly (and it can splatter a bit when you do this). I just generously cover the area of concern, leave for a couple of minutes - but no longer or it starts to evaporate - and then either scrub with a stiff brush if it's a bad stain or dab with kitchen roll if it's not too bad. Once the foam has dispersed, you are advised to vacuum the area which can help to finalise the process.
Once dry, the stain has usually totally gone or has vastly reduced. Sometimes I will wait 24 hours and then have another go at it and I can usually get it to an acceptable level. We have a cream carpet in our bedroom and the occasional tea stain has been tackled in there but even worse is when the cats cough up a hair ball or are sick, it really needs something high strength to tackle it and we have found the Vanish Power Foam for Carpets works the majority of the time.
Having a young baby and cats presents numerous challenges for our bottle of Vanish Power Foam for Carpets and I am pleased with its performance. It works well on food stains and muddy marks but it just takes a bit of patience to apply, scrub, vacuum and dry. Our bottle lasts months with at least weekly use (usually more!) so is worth the price tag.
This product is not cheap but it is sold in a large bottles sized 600ml. In Tesco it is £4.60 and I have not really seen it sold much cheaper elsewhere.
This is a product we regularly use and will continue to use when tackling life's little (constant) emergencies!
