I got a small bottle free with the cleaner. The warranty is invalid if you do not use their own product, so bought some more. Whilst I am delighted with the performance of my cleaner, I found this product a little wanting. Did not always clean mud off of carpet and fragrance weak, allowing drying carpet odour to linger at times. As I have dogs, I bought the Especially for Dogs version next time and this is much better. It is obviously a stronger solution and the fragrance is designed to reduce and remove, but not mask doggy smells. A must for a dog lover like me with a house proud husband! So much better, so worth digging a little deeper when you buy and finding the dog version. I suspect even if you don't have dogs that the formula is stronger as the cleaning power is significantly better, so try and find it. Price was only about 10p more for a very big bottle.
That said, it is the non dog version on review here and I found it wanting and was so please I bought the dog owners version last time. I wash the carpet a lot, we live in the countryside, have 2 dogs of our own and occasionally others to stay, despite this we like a clean fresh smelling home. So a few times a week I wash the high traffic areas of the sitting room carpet. I found the AAA needed several sweeps over with the cleaner, still sometimes leaving a bit of a mark. However, to be fair it is superior to some others tried in the past. We also noticed that the fragrance soon left and the room was left with a damp carpet smell, necessitating the use of air freshening products. However, the carpet pile always came up well, both on the main wool carpet and on synthetic rugs, no sticky residue or water marks.
At only £9.99 or less for 1.5L good value for money
A little goes a long way
Left carpets looking good
Several applications needed for dirty areas
Fragrance did not hold, so left with a damp carpet smell
I hope to review the for Dogs version as it is much better!
Having a dog in the house, I have to clean my carpets regularly. I have a very good Vax model carpet cleaner to help with this - and I always use the Vax recommended cleaning fluid when using it.
Vax does make a specially formulated carpet wash product which is supposed to be specifically designed to get rid of pet odours on your carpet but I have tried it in the past and I can't tell that there's that much difference between it and the standard product besides a slightly more citrusy smell. The standard product seems to work fine for me.
Any difficult stains or spills on your carpet might need a little extra help prior to cleaning with the carpet cleaner, however - so its always better to pre-treat these or you end up over-wetting your carpet with the carpet cleaner trying to get them off. I have a bottle of Vax spot and stain for pets which comes in a squirty bottle for this - but its not something I have to use every time I shampoo the carpet.
The Vax AAA cleaning solution must be shaken before use and the required dose poured into your machine. Each carpet cleaner will have instructions in its user guide about how much of this stuff you must add to the water tank - and it is important that this advice is followed for optimum results. (My particular machine requires one capful of product per litre of warm water.)
The product warns to check for colour fastness before use - and to keep the product away from children. As with all detergents people with sensitive skin should avoid prolonged contact with the product. The cleaning solution is low foaming and 'woolsafe' approved. The bottle is recyclable.
In combination with my Vax carpet cleaner, this product always produces good results. A look inside the dirty water tank of your carpet cleaner is always sobering. The water always seems murky even though my carpets get a wash on average every eight weeks or so. This product really does help lift the dirt out of your carpet pile. My carpets look cleaner and rejuvenated. There is no feeling of residue on the carpets and they are left smelling fresh.
For a 1.5l bottle, standard Vax AAA cleaning fluid is available on Amazon from £6.91 (sellers), at Sainsburys for £9.99 (click and collect available), or from the Vax website direct £9.99 or buy 2 bottles for £14.99. (28/07/13) This might seem a little pricey but a large bottle lasts for quite a while. In my opinion, this is a reliable product and it certainly does the job in my house.
Vax AAA Standard Carpet Cleaner is a carpet cleaner which will leave your home feeling lovely and clean as it gently lifts off deep down dirt and stains from carpets and upholstery leaving behind a fresh fragrance without any sticky residue.
