Vileda Wood Mop
Advantages: large mop head, washes well, adjustable
Disadvantages: none for me
My friend's husband works for Vileda and so when I was in need of a new mop I asked her if he would know of anything suitable for my needs at home. As it happened she had a brand new Vileda wood mop sitting in her house as she didn't have many wooden floors and so she told me I could have it as the kitchen, dining room, hall and bathroom in my house all have wooden floors.
The Vileda wood mop comes with a long red handle which I associate with Vileda as they all seem to have the red handles which are great for brand identity I guess! What is great about this particular mop handle is that it is telescopic and so it can be adjusted to make it longer or shorter depending on the person who is doing the mopping. I am five feet one and I have it on the smallest setting which is pretty perfect for me to be honest but it can be adjusted to a much taller handle if someone taller was to be doing the mopping. It is really simple to adjust the handle too as you simply twist it one way to release it and then twist it again the other way to lock it in to position again. I find it stays locked in position and doesn't suddenly come undone as I am cleaning my floors!
This mop features a long, thin and flat mop head which is designed specifically for use on wooden floors really as it can cover a good surface area quite quickly. They can be used both wet to clean the floors or dry as a way of sweeping up and generally dusting the area so it is a really handy feature to have on the mop if you have a lot of wooden floors.
I tend to use my mop wet simply because I hoover every day downstairs and so there isn't much chance for dog hair and dust to settle on my floors but they do get dirty with the general traffic of the days and so I like to give them a good clean with this mop. The mop head is removable and so by pressing a black button on the underside of the mop you can make the bottom of it collapse and so remove the pad which you will be mopping with. I tend to soak the mop pad in a solution of either bleach and water or disinfectant and water but sometimes I will just wet my floor using a floor cleaner and then just mop it up without removing the pad at all.
I like the fact that I can mop quite quickly with this product because the pad is quite large and the fact that it is a flat pad also makes me feel confident that the full surface of the floor is being washed well as opposed to if I was using a normal looking mop head. After I use this one my floors look nice and clean and the mop pad does a good job of soaking up excess water on the floor so to not damage my floors.
As the pad is removable it is really easy to keep it clean and after I have mopped my floors I just throw it in on a normal wash with my other things and it washes up well. Over the couple of years I have had this one I am yet to have to source a replacement pad for the mop because it still looks good and is showing no signs of damage or wear and tear despite regular use over quite a long time. For me this is excellent value and whilst I didn't pay for this mop I would quite happily look to replace it with a similar model when this one does decide to pack in.
I have struggled to find a price online for this particular mop but it would appear it was first introduced around 2006 and so is perhaps hard to get hold of now. There is a very similar looking model on the Vileda website selling for £13.00 which I think is a very reasonable price to pay for a mop which is likely to last for many years.
Thank you for reading my review!
