Advantages: easy to use

Disadvantages: does not remove 100% of stains 100%!!?

1001 mousse for carpets and upholstery comes in a large blue and yellow can with a plastic brush directly above the spray outlet thingy.

The mousse claims to "attack wet spills and stains", and I have found it reasonable effective after using it on occassion for the last year or so.

On carpets that are patterned it seems to lighten the lighter part of the design, so that patch might show up amidst the rest of the floor, which is a normal, worn and torn shade! :) But it usually gets about 90% of the marks out. Sometimes a second application is needed, and it doesn't fair so well on old stains, or soil-based marks. Someone left a load of muddy footprints on my green carpet, and unfortunately the stains dried in. The mousse will not shift it at all, even though I've tried 3 times, and dampened the stain first. No joy at all with that.

Extra stubborn stains have to be wetted and treated 2 to 3 times.

The full method of application is as follows:

1. mop up what you can of the (fresh) stain, or dampen an old dried one.

2. apply mousse at a distance of about 12 inches, then work it into the carpet with the brush, working toward the centre of the marks so as not to spread all the mess around to new places! The can recommends a side-to-side motion of spraying.

3. when it is completely dried, vacuum the area, and reapply if needed.

The can does last me quite a while, as it is just for emergency spills and stains. I have found it works very well on upholstery, and it leaves a fresh fragrance behind.

For a 300ml can it is £1.99, but bare in mind that you only need to use it occasionally.

Effective most of the time, so I recommend that you try it for yourself. Although, bare in mind that if you have a cheap carpet with very worn pile, then it may be more of a challenge to clean, as the mousse is harder to work into the fibres. AT least that's what I've found
.
