Advantages: GREAT FOR STAINS

Disadvantages: Very toxic

I thought I knew best when getting a new carpet. I didn't have children and I loved the cream look so I bought one for my new house ignoring everyone's warnings about it getting terribly dirty etc.. Now 4 years on I have 2 small children and hate to blimmin' thing. It isn't really an option to buy a new one either as I have an open plan house so it would cost way too much to re- carpet the hole of the ground floor.

My carpet isn't too bad as I'm forever scrubbing away at marks the kids leave. I know I wouldn't have to do this if I had a darker carpet grrrrrrrr.

The other week while I was upstairs my 4 yr old decided to draw on the carpet with biro pen.A lovely picture of a girl holding a balloon. I was horrified. I tried everything and the marks still remained. I was shopping in Wilkinsons and I can across "1001 spot stain" to tell the truth. I have used 1001 products before and never really thought much of them but as it was on offer at £1.33 (half price) for 200ml. I decided to give it a go.

The can is the usual 1001 look. Which are always blue and yellow. It states that it dissolves stains without scrubbing.

On the back of the can its asks you to do a test on a small patch of carpet first but I decided to just take the plunge and use it straight away as it was only a cream carpet and I didn't have anything to loose.

How to use
------------

For best results, treat stains immediately, before they dry
1. On fresh stains- thoroughly blot with an absorbent cloth and remove any loose stain leftovers.
2. Shake the can well before use. Point spray head in the direction of the ink dot on the top of the can. Spray 1001 SPOT SHOT onto the stain. Avoid saturating the carpet.
3.immediately blot the treated area gently with a cloth.
4. If necessary, repeat steps 2 and 3 until stain is gone.
5.after full stain removal, gently blot the area with clear, cool water in all directions. Repeat and blot area dry. Do not walk over the area until it is fully dry.
6. On old stains- let 1001 SPOT SHOT soak in for about 60 seconds to loosen the stain.

As the satin was old I followed step 6 first. I found the product to be very strong smelling. Not very pleasant to be honest, even though it states on the can that it is fresh smelling. The liquid was very toxic and the fumes made me cough. I was glad that the kids were in bed as the fumes gases out the whole room so I would definitely recommend completing this task just before you are about to go out and then leaving it. I was really pleased with the result though as I could see the stain removing before my eyes. I noticed the liquid bubbling on the stain and then the pen uplifting straight away. I was extremely impressed. I did not need to repeat the process as the stain disappeared straight away.

I have stocked up on 1001 SPOT SHOT as I think it is a great product. It does warn you on the can that the product is extremely flammable. Without adequate ventilation formation of explosive mixtures may be possible.

I had almost given up hope on my beautiful cream carpet, now currently covered with pink ink... I never had much luck with other 1001 products but I shall definitely give this one a go after your success!
