Yankee Candle Sicilian Lemon
by millyshark
The Brand
The Yankee Candle: gorgeously scented areas of our garden centres. They are like the Jelly Belly Bean merged with the Ronseal of the candle world, smelling exactly like they say on the tin and the scent lasts as long as the candle does.
Yankee candles are the kind of thing you see in random places you don't ... expect and then take a sharp intake of breath at the price. But each of the candles I have bought after my first wonderful experience have been fantastic. Like an investment in yourself the same as Jelly Belly Beans they are indeed worth that extra few quid. Except this one!
Size
The little versions of these candles are a great intro if you don't want to splash out on the big vases that last several months until you are sure you want to be stuck with it. The only problem with them really is that they are really fiddly to get in to as they are shrink wrapped with quite a strong wrap - probably to keep the scent in so you can savour all of it.
Aroma
The scent itself, Sicilian Lemon, where perhaps less powerful than the others, is in itself up to the standard of the Yankee candle - in that it smells divine. There is a creamy essence which you can't put your finger on. The lemon is quite acidic; in essence it is less crass than sniffing a real lemon - because of the softened cheesecakey flavour - but it is no less realistic. Which is what drew me to it.
I would normally say that these candles are fantastic and worth every penny if you are looking for something to fill your room - or house - with a particular and quite strong smell for the evening. However the Sicilian Lemon turned out to be quite disappointing. The smell of the wax isn't quite as strong as other 'flavours' which is a bit of a give away and once lit it barely filled the air around it, never mind the room. Often with these candles the smell gradually fills the room, far more than other so-called scented candles, but unfortunately with this particular one the smell barely reached further than the table it was on.
I've rated it 3 because the scent is really lovely, but it's lost marks because:
* Other Yankee Candles perform so much better and
* As much as I understand having to individually wrap them up I don't like the fact that they are shrink-wrapped which leaves you having to use scissors and cutting a tiny corner, if you're lucky enough to find one, and then fiddle about tearing it off, risking breaking the candle or marking it and also getting that awful waxy feeling on your paws! Fairy Non Bio Gel
by thriftygiftyisme
I tend to stick to about 3 sets of detergents as my daughter suffers with dry skin, and Fairy Non Bio is one of those that I use, I use the gel of this product. So i buy the fairy for when I do her washing of the bedding.
=The Bottle=
I always find with the bottle that it is easy to store, easy to clean if I spill the ... liquid, and it is easy to use. The bottle is a white plastic bottle, and the measuring part is built into the lid of the gel. The label is blue based, it is clearly labelled as Fairy Bio, and on the back of the bottle it tells you how to use it, what the ingredients are and company contact details.
=Availability=
This can be purchased from most retailers, and is around £6.00 for a small bottle (592ml), but it is worth looking out as it does go on offer. There is also a larger bottle (888ml) size.
=Fairy Non Bio=
Fairy non-bio is designed to make clothes soft and gentle. It has been dermatological tested, and has been endorsed by the British Allergy Foundation.
=Ingredients=
15-30% Anionic Surfactants , 5-15% Non-Ionic Surfactants, Soap , Benzisothiazolinone , Metylisothiazolinone , Perfumes
=How to use=
I pour the gel into the measuring cup, place this in the drum of the washing machine, then pop in the washing
=My Verdict=
I think this is a really good product, my daughters skin doesn't suffer any reactions, and the bedding comes out so soft and smells so fresh. I can tell the difference when I have used the other products, as the fairy does make the washing soft.
=Would I buy again=
I would buy again, and I would highly recommend the Fairy, I would say shop around for the prices as it is on the more expensive side, otherwise I would be using it for every wash. Read the complete review |

Yankee Candle Lemon Lavender
by ms_123
Towards the end of last year I received a thankyou gift from O2 for being with them on contract for a year. I had a choice of £10 gift vouchers and one of these included Debenhams. Having recently discovered Yankee candles I decided to head down to my local branch and pick a selection. I tend to burn wax tarts rather than the candles ... themselves as they are cheaper and mean that I can experiment with the different scents and if I don't like one it's not an expensive loss. One of the ones that I added to my basket was the Lemon Lavender scent. I was intrigued by the combination - I like citrusy scents but lavender is also one of my favourite scents as it reminds me of the lovely few days I spent in Nice at the end of the summer a couple of years ago.
If you're not familiar with Yankee candles, wax tarts are basically small circular pieces of wax with a fluted edge, rather like a tart you'd bake in the oven. Unlike conventional candles they have no wick and so have to be placed in a tart burner to melt and release their fragrance. At around £1.20 Wax tarts are much cheaper than full sized candles and allow you to try fragrances without making a commitment. Each wax tart releases around 8 hours of fragrance.
The Lemon Lavender tart is a lilac in colour and has a picture of lemons in a basket surrounded by sprigs of lavender. Yankee describe this scent as clean and inviting... a powdery fresh blend of tangy lemon citrus and sweet lavender flowers. The tart comes in a clear cellophane wrap. I usually smell the tart through the wrap to get an idea of what the tart may smell like when burnt. However in this case this didn't give much away and to be honest I was a bit sceptical that this would in fact be quite a weak scent.
I often tend to burn tarts for a couple of hours in the evening whilst relaxing in front of the TV or straight after cleaning the flat I live in. I think this scent is more of a day time scent and suited to the spring and summer months as it is quite fresh and airy. It took about 15 minutes of burning the tart in the burner before I noticed the scent start to waft around the room. I would describe the scent as quite zesty, rather like fizzy lemon sherbets. Really lovely and mouth-watering! The scent was predominantly of lemon, although there were undertones of lavender, which cut through some of the sharpness of the lemons. However, it wasn't as strong as I would have hoped for and sitting at the other end of the room, I only got a slight whiff of it, even when it had been burning continuously for a couple of hours. It was only as I got close to the burner that the scent became strong. This was a little disappointing, although perhaps I just got one from a dodgy batch. After burning the scent became undetectable after around half an hour.
Overall I have mixed feelings about this particular Yankee candle. I really like the scent - it's citrusy and mouth-watering, but was disappointed with the strength of the scent. It's weak and I had trouble detecting this sitting just a few metres away from the tart burner. Perhaps I was just unlucky and got a tart from a dodgy batch and I will probably buy this again just to see, as I really did like the scent. However based on this particular experience I can't award this any more than 3 stars. Read the complete review |
