Asda Smart Price 5 Sponge Scourers
by Seven17
These scourers are perfect for washing up, I use them every day just on the pots, pans and mugs. There are many other uses for these i'm sure but I find they're just good for washing up.
The packaging shown in that picture up there is the old design. These scourers now come in the same plastic bag but instead have a green ... smart price logo and a solid white square. They are also now just under 20p per pack and only come in white. They used to come in yellow but they don't even do a multi colour pack.
The packaging has to be thrown and cannot be recycled. It's incredibly easy to open, just like a bag of crisps really. The sponges are also not recyclable but do last for a couple weeks so it's not like your bin is going to be filled with these things.
When washing up these do get the grease and dirt off really well, they don't shred when they are used for picking dried food off the plates and they don't even fall to pieces straight away. At this price though I wasn't expecting much. The ones I use last about 1-2 weeks just for the family's washing up. This is not exactly strenuous work for these scourers, even if it is for me!
The rough side is not like sandpaper but it's not comfortable to touch either. The little fibres stick out all over the place and occasionally these do come off onto the plates or into the washing up water. This side is excellent for getting the tough dirt off and really scrubs it off when you apply pressure.
The soft side is quite thick and springy, with only small holes in it. They aren't large craters and while bits do occasionally get tangled in this, it can easily be rung out and washed clean. This side is less well made and generally is the side that needs binning. It usually falls apart by getting holes or tears in it from knives but after a few weeks it's shredded itself anyway.
Overall these are excellent value for money scourers. They're simple, cheap and do their job well. They last a good couple of weeks so while they're cheap, they're not unacceptably poor quality. I recommend these for washing up. Read the complete review |

Asda Tea Lights
by Seven17
These tea lights are only a couple quid for a hundred and they really do add a relaxing feeling to the room. I use them in the bathroom when having a relaxing bath. Well, relaxing only if the boiler decides to work.
The tea lights come in a big plastic bag which cannot be recycled. The candles can be recycled when they burn ... down completely, or you can just scrape the remaining wax out with a knife. It isn't superglued in place and comes out quite easily. These metal holders for the wax aren't particularly useful and i haven't found another use for them, so i just put them in the recycle bin.
The candles are unscented and they're not kidding, there is a fain smell when you open up a new pack but there is no vanilla scent or even the slightest hint of flavour, taste or smell. The wax is very slightly dry and there are a few candles with odd small blobs on the top, maybe rushed off the production line?
The wax isn't that smooth and the surface of each tea light is a little rough. It's not the surface of the moon but isn't like those Ikea candles you get which have a smoother texture to them.
These take a good few hours to burn down, most about 3 hours but some last slightly less than this. My record is 3 and a half hours for some but these are not the majority sadly. Good value for money then as these do last and can be re used if you're just having dinner with them at your table.
These really do look good, most of them go on the mantelpiece or around the bathroom and they're quite relaxing. For the artistic value they're quite good too, they really set the mood in a room.
I'd recommend placing a few in clusters around the room rather than spread out because one bright clump of them together actually looks quite good. Spread out it looks a little bare. Another thing you can do is put them in candle holders, especially the coloured ones from Ikea, these brightly coloured glass holders really add some colour and make things more "funky"
These are highly recommended, they're cheap at just £2 and they add an excellent relaxing mood to the room. They go well with some coloured holders or in clusters dotted around a room. Highly recommended. Read the complete review |

Asda Pillar Candle
by bringingsexyback
WHAT IS IT?
A large pillar candle from Asda. You can buy it in an unfragranced cream colour or a choice of different colour wax and different fragrances.
THE CANDLE
This pillar candle is about 6 inch tall when it is new and it is thick. There is a long wick on the candle and that has been dipped in ... wax also to make it easy to light. Mine is unfragranced and it is plain cream coloured that I think looks very nice.
WHAT I THINK
I think these are very good candles and I buy them very often because the candles in Sainsburys where I shop are not as good. I like that when the candle has been burning the wax melts even and I don't get holes or tunnels in the candle, I like also that the wick is very straight through the candle so it does not burn more on one side than the other.
They stand up very straight even if you are not using a candle holder that has got a spike to hold the candle up straight. I have got one inside a painted wooden box now and I am never scared that it is going to fall over or be dangerous at all.
I like that the flame is strong on this candle because I do not like it when I am sitting down at night and candles keep flickering so I am glad that the flame on this candle is stable. There is no smell to it when it is burning only the usual sooty smell when I blow the candle out. I have been burning my pillar candle for 3 weeks nearly every day for at least 1 hour and I have still got half of the candle left so I think that is good.
ANYTHING ELSE
Pillar candles in Asda cost between £2 - £3 and the price will depend on whether you want one that is fragranced or just a plain one like I have got.
