Bold 2 in 1 Gel Crystal Rain & White Lily
by sara66
***
Bold is my clothes washing gel of choice, simply because I have used it for quite a few years. The crystal rain and white lily scent is by far my favourite scent out of the 2 in 1 gels provided by Bold.
The gel is a thick liquid that comes packaged in a plastic container, with a flip-top lid, and comes ... attached with a cup or boat in which to measure, put the gel, and place in the washing machine.
This particular flavour is blue in colour. You can smell the scent right off the bottle, it is strong, and I say this because I can smell the scent on my hands after holding the bottle, however the scent is not overpowering, so perhaps the best way of describing it is that it is a very clingy scent. It does smell, floral and sweet, but it is also a gentle scent, something that for some reason reminds me of babies! I can smell lilies very faintly, so I think the more powerful scent is probably the crystal rain. Definitely feminine, but not overpoweringly so, so I think men would be fine with this scent.
I put in a full cup or boat for a full load, and this plenty for the scent to reach each and every piece of clothing. The gel does clean well, and the scent is very much present after washing the clothes. If drying clothes in a tumble dryer, the floral scent pretty much disappears, the clothes do remain smelling fresh. If naturally drying, the floral scent remains on the clothes, but the clothes do not feel as soft as when they come out of the dryer. Nonetheless I like the fresh and softer feeling of the clothes/fabric after using this particular gel.
One of the things I have done with this particular flavour is soaking stained clothes in a bit of water and a lot of the gel applied on the stain, leave it to soak overnight. New stains mostly come off in the washing machine with this gel, but older stains do require some soaking for them to become fainter and fainter, but the gel does not always remove the stain completely...leaves the stain smelling nice though. In order for the gel to completely remove the stain, wash it in the washing machine within one or two days of staining.
Overall, this is a good clothes washing gel from Bold and I give it four stars.

Ariel Excel Gel
by springtide
Some of you might know from reading my reviews that I am in charge of the household side of a boat and a villa in Spain including the laundry. At times there can be 14 people to look after and that is a lot of washing particularly when they are in and out of the water all day. We get through an enormous amount of towels not to mention ... the sheets at the end of the week.
The guest are not at all precious, the majority being ex-rugby players and their families and they are out to have a good holiday having worked hard all year. On hand-over days there is a virtual mountain of sheets and towels, sometimes I have a few days to do it, sometimes not, panic! I have tried many different detergents over time but the one that has made a lasting impression is Ariel Excel. Sometimes I get to buy the detergent and other times it is bought by whoever is in the house. This one was bought by me because it was very concentrated and I was fed up with lifting humongous sized bottles of detergent around as I am on the skinny side at 45kilos.
This was the first bottle that I had bought where you did not put the detergent into the dosing drawer of the washing machine so I was a bit surprised when I saw the drawn instructions on the back of the bottle. The variety that I chose had a blue base where you access the gel and the white plastic bottle is an interesting shape being sort of tear drop shaped with a flat end which is the blue bit. The Ariel web site calls it "ovoid". Inside the detergent is a thick, clear turquoise gel which smells lovely and fresh as it also contains Febreze. You squeeze the thick gel into the white dispenser top which sits on top of the bottle. It is quite easy to control the amount that you need and put the dispenser into the machine on top of you washing. The dispenser must be found after each wash and you can bet your bottom dollar that if there is a duvet cover in the wash it will be inside the cover. I think they train them to do it!.
With few exceptions the washing machine programme that I use is 30 minutes at 40C This is a bit of a bone of contention in the house as I am all for saving energy and this detergent is designed to be efficient at cooler temperatures like 15C so, when no one is looking I drop the temperature down and do my bit to help save the planet. The wash comes out just as clean and the towels and sheets smell lovely, much nicer than other Ariel products that I have used. I think this is due to the Febreze. Results have also been good on guests clothes and also on my white T shirts which are often get very grubby especially when cleaning the boat. The aspect that made the biggest impression on me was how many washes I got out of the 888ml size bottle. I did not start out by counting them, sometimes I do 5 or 6 washes a day but the bottle just seemed to go on and on. It says that there is sufficient for 24 washes but it felt like a lot more.
My Opinion.
This has become one of my favourites. I love the scent of the washing when I open the linen cupboard, it smells fresh and clean. The bottle is easy for me to handle and the only crib I have is the price. The 888ml bottle is currently selling for 8.17pounds on the Tesco website and we always pay a bit more if we buy it in Gibraltar due to the transport costs. I am dithering between 4 and 5 stars so will be generous and give it 5.
5 stars from me.

Tesco 2 In 1 Lavender Liquid Capsules 20 Wash
by basketofbuttons
I buy a lot of Tesco's own brand products and when had a coupon for £1 off a tub of their 24 two in one cleaning pouches, I decided to try them. I usually use a liquid detergent, though I can see the benefits of using these little liquid pouches as there is no measuring required and also these ones don't even require a separate ... conditioner, as they are a two in one formulation.
These packs of twenty four tubs normally retail at £4.50 but with my £1 off I paid only £3.50 so considered this to be a bit of a bargain, especially as I wasn't even going to have to add any fabric conditioner tot the wash load. I usually have mixed feeling, however, about the smell of lavender and to be honest this was the only reason I was initially a little bit hesitant about using these liquid pouches.
Each little pouch is square in shape and filled with a deep purple coloured liquid. They are quite full and I just put one into the drum of the washing machine, at the back, and then set the machine as I normally would.
I sued these liquid pouches on a very hot boil wash, and I also used it on a 40 degree and a cooler 30 degree wash, so I had the full run of the temperature scale to see how they worked well on both my whites and my coloured clothing.
I have to say that they did wash fine at all temperatures and they even managed to lift stains out of some of my daughter's white PE tops on a cooler wash. So in this respect they were fairly impressive.
On the negative side, however, they just didn't smell as nice as they normally do when I add my own fabric conditioner, such as Lenor or Comfort. Added to this, was the fact that they also didn't feel nearly as soft as they normally do, either. My husband and daughter both said that things felt 'rougher' so even they noticed a difference. I could detect no smell of lavender at all.
I would personally say these are fine for towels but I don't think I'd really buy them again to do my normal weekly wash as all of the washing just didn't feel or smell as nice as it normally did. They are good if you are really against using a powder or liquid detergent and don't mind the feel of rough clothes against your skin, but not a product I'm going to buy again.
