Lily Flame Christmas Spice Scented Candle Tin
by suziedre
Lily-Flame is a Somerset based company that has been going since 1997. All their candles are hand-made, and they sell scented candle tins, scented glassware, room mist sprays, and reed diffusers. I have only ever seen or owned the scented candle tins, and these come in various fragrances, such as Freshly Cut Grass, and Lavender and Lime. ... They also sell candles with less scent-specific names, such as Fairy Dust and Bathing Beauty.
My sister bought me this Christmas Spice scented candle tin for Christmas 2010, but I did not burn it until the following year ie. the Christmas just past. When I get a lovely candle such as this one, I kind of don't want to burn it as it's much too nice!
This candle comes in a small round gold tin, and is covered in a thick reddish paper. The name of the candle is embossed in gold onto the paper; both on the lid and the main tin. I think it looks very natural and handcrafted, however a VERY minor quibble of mine with all Lily-Flame candles is that I really dislike the font that is used on the candle labels. It's a bit too cutesy for my liking and I would prefer something either a little quirkier or else more stylish. I did say it was a minor quibble!
Inside, the wax is a pinkish red. There are also 3 small triangular shaped chunks of wax sitting at the top of the candle, in red, green and orange. I think the different colours take away from the look of the candle, personally. I'd have preferred them to be all red or else orange. However, I find that these chunks are the first part of the candle to melt away, so you get rid of them pretty quickly!
The label describes this candle's scent as 'a warm blend of cinnamon and cloves'. As soon as you take the lid off and take a sniff, you can smell how strong the scent is, and indeed it's warm and cinnamony with the cooler, fresher smell of cloves.
At the beginning of Christmas, I had this sitting on the table with the lid off just as decoration. I didn't burn it, but when I came downstairs in the morning I could smell the candle even though it had just been sitting, unlit, with the lid off. Impressive. In fact it smelt just like clove rock sweets - lovely!
Lit, the candle will last up to 35 hours. It melts slowly so despite the pricier nature of this brand, you do get a long lasting candle. I find that when lit, I can smell the cinnamon more than the clove. It filters around the room well and the smell lingers even once you blow the candle out.
These scented candle tins are £8.50 from the official Lily-Flame website, www.lily-flame.co.uk, but you can sometimes see them for cheaper elsewhere, for example eBay.
I would buy this for myself, and probably will do when it's Christmas again. However I am a Yankee Candle devotee and would always buy their Christmas candles first before purchasing from Lily-Flame. Read the complete review |

Lily Flame Parma Violets Scented Candle
by baby-cakes
Over the course of the past year my love of candles has really grown, mainly down to the fact that my friend bought me a tart burner for Christmas the previous year. One afternoon whilst out shopping I came across a little shop selling unusual candles and some of them were in tins which looked really eye catching.
The tinned ... candles were made my Lily-Flame. Lily-Flame candles was established in 1997 and is based in Somerset where all of their products are handmade in the countryside. The candles come encase in a round chunky tin and come in various colours. I smelled the various candles that were for sale and as soon as I opened the tin of the Parma Violet scent I knew that was the one I wanted but as they are quite expensive I decided to ask for one for Christmas, which I was thrilled to receive!
The Lily-Flame Parma Violets candle comes in a gold tin which is covered in a textured lilac label, with one on the top also. "Parma Violets (The Sweetest Feeling)" is written in metallic green lettering on the top and side of the tin. On the back of the label (is there a back on a circular tin??) you will find details about the candle and instructions on how long you should burn it for. You are advised not to burn the candle for more than three hours at a time so the wax doesn't stick to the side of the tin.
Opening the lid of the tin you are immediately hit with the strong parma violet scent which is absolutely lovely and is just like you are sat there with a packet of the sweets! Looking at the candle it is a pale lilac in colour to match the label on the tin and has four chunky cubes of wax sitting on top - two purple and two white which gives it a really funky looking effect. The wick is in the centre of the candle (as with all candles) and is quite short in comparison to others I have had.
When I came to use the candle for the first time I was actually amazed at how strong the scent was even before lighting it and it was immediately filling the room, so much so that I wasn't even sure I needed to light it! However, I did decide to light it and within just a few minutes the scent was all around the house. The scent of this candle is just exactly like the sweets, it immediately takes me back to being a little girl and being treated to a packet of parma violets on a friday!
I tend to burn the candle once every couple of days and for around half an hour at a time as this is enough time because the scent is so strong. When the candle is being burned the wax burns really evenly and not just down the centre leaving a big gaping hole. As it melts the wax runs down and collects again in the middle leaving a nice even candle.
It is stated on the tin that the Lily-Flame candle will burn for approximately 35 hours and at a guess I would say I have burned mine for around three hours so far and there is virtually no change to the candle from when I first opened the tin. It is important to place the tin on a heatproof surface to prevent damage as the tin gets hot, though there is no danger of any wax spillages as it all stays in the tin!
Scents available: Chocolate Truffle, Christmas Spice, Citrus Crush, Daffodils and Dandelions. Freshly Cut Grass, Summer Pudding, Watermelon Smile, Love, Blush and many many more.
I absolutely adore the Lily-Flame Parma Violets candle, the smell is just yummy and I can't get enough of it. The quality of the candle is fantastic, the way it burns so evenly, how long it lasts and the strength of the scent is really good. After an evening of burning the candle I can still smell it the next morning when I come home from dropping my daughter off at nursery. It is good how long it lasts so I always know my home is smelling nice without using air freshener (and with having a cat I am a bit paranoid sometimes about that!).
You can buy the Lily-Flame candle from the company direct at a cost of £8.50 but if you shop around you can find them slightly cheaper online. You can also find this range of candles in some gift shops and larger stores such as Debenhams. I will definitely be buying one of these candles in the future, and can't wait to try the Watermelon Smile scent!

Lily Flame Summer Pudding Scented Candle
by MissKatyxox
I bought this candle while on holiday in Bude and I had deliberated over it over several days, going into the shop, smelling the candle then thinking, should I buy it, should I not. On the last day of my trip I caved in and decided to buy it because the smell is just amazing !!
It is packaged in a nice tin with a paper label ... around the it and on top of the lid. The paper is a light pink and on it is written, in red, shiny letters, 'Summer Pudding, A Succulent Blend of Apples and Berries.' It is from the brand Lily Flame and all the other info in on the back too.
When you open the tin, inside the lid there are some burning instructions. The candle is originally a light pink colour but when it is burned the colour from the little pyramids of coloureed wax around the wick run and it turns a different colour which is ok.
It smells amazingly nice when it is burned, the perfect blend of berries and I don't think really describing it in words is enough. If you have anywhere near you that sell lily flame then just go and smell this, especially if you like fruity scents !
It burns nicely and evenly if you burn it correctly, ( burn it to the edge the firs time. ) If you don't do that then next time you burn it just put some silver foil around it and fold it over the flame a little, not too much or it will snuff it out and that will melt the wax underneath it and then you will have a correct burn.
I would really recommend this candle and I will be trying other lily flame candles very soon ! Read the complete review |
