Yankee Candle Macintosh and Peach
by pink_glitter A while ago I purchased a Yankee Candle wax tart in the Macintosh fragrance. I love apple scents and had been looking forward to using it, especially as it had smelled so yummy in the wrapper. When I actually tried it however, I found that the fragrance was very weak and I could barely smell it at all. When I saw the Macintosh & ... Peach fragrance online, I was interested to try it out, but at the same time slightly apprehensive given my previous experiences with the Macintosh tart. Still, the wax tarts are relatively cheap at around £1.10 each so I decided that I would give it a chance. When the tart arrived it was red in colour and the label depicted a basket of apples and peaches. The scent through the wrapper smelled very sweet and apple-like...in fact I felt it smelled very similar to the original Macintosh fragrance and couldn't detect any peach at all. Still, I was keen to use it, so got it unwrapped straight away and into my tart burner. I will quickly explain, before I go any further, that a wax tart, is simply a wickless disc of wax which rather than burning, is melted under the flame of a tea light. You will need a tart burner for this and these can be purchased from Yankee in a range of designs, the cheapest ones having an RRP of around £5. It didn't take long for the scent of this candle to filter around the room once it was in the burner. It had a very light apple fragrance, but with a slightly tangier edge which presumably must have been the peach. My fiancé walked into the room when this was burning and said 'hmm, peachy' (which presumably related to the candle!) but for me the apple scent was the main fragrance and the peach was simply a gentle undertone. I have to say, one thing this scent reminded me of a lot was the Nina perfume by Nina Ricci. If you, or anyone you know, is a fan of that fragrance I would strongly recommend this candle. The intensity of the scent was, for me, perfect. I could smell it in the room, but it wasn't too strong or overpowering. I also found that the scent travelled to neighbouring rooms, making them smell fresh and welcoming. Each tart is designed to give a maximum of eight hours fragrance and I found that this was about accurate, as it was around this point the scent seemed to fade. As mentioned earlier in the review, the wax tarts have an RRP of £1.10, but you can buy them in many formats. Below is a list of approximate burn times and prices, but of course these will vary depending on where you shop. I normally get mine from Collectables or Clintons Cards, or if buying online www.yankeedoodle.co.uk Wax Tarts - Burn time 8 hours - £1.10 Votives - Burn time up to 15 hours - £1.60 Small Jar - Burn time 25-40 hours - £7.45 Medium Jar - Burn time 65-60 hours - £15.45 Large Jar - Burn time 110-150 hours - £18.45 Overall I was very pleased with this fragrance and there is no doubt that I would purchase it again. It smells fresh and fruity, whilst staying light and not too overpowering. It scores highly for me on scent, intensity and longevity and I would thoroughly recommend this fragrance as I can't think of anything bad to say about it! *Also posted on Ciao under username pink_champagne Read the complete review |

Regina Chamomile Soft Toilet Tissue
by greenpomme I first bought this toilet roll when it was on offer at half price in Sainsburys for £1.46, but thought it was one of Sainsbury's own products, not realising it was a half price offer. It was the price and pretty flowers on it that initially attracted me to the product. Most toilet rool that looks pretty is thin and pretty useless but I ... was pleasantly surprised by this one. Since then I have continued to use it, but I try to get it on offer becasue the price is quite high. As with other toilet rolls I usually find this is on offer in one of the supermarkets so I make sure I grab some when I see it. This is a three ply toilet roll as opposed to a lot of them which are two play. This makes it softer and stronger and therefore more substancial. It I had to liken it to a leading brand I would say Cushelle is the closest. Overall, I rate it highly. Read the complete review |

Regina Chamomile Soft Toilet Tissue
by brittle1906 Review of Regina Chamomile toilet tissue ==**The Product**== Toilet paper is one of those items that I resent buying! It always seems ludicrous to me to spend out on something that is just being thrown away, but, of course you have to have it. I have always made a point of buying the cheapest toilet paper ... available, usually an economy, basic type, but recently I saw this Regina Chamomile on a special offer, so thought I'd give it a try. Regina Chamomile Toilet tissue comes in a 4 roll pack. It is presented in a non-recyclable plastic outer wrapper. The toilet paper stands out on the supermarket shelf, the wrapper is clear, but brightly coloured with gold and blue writing and decorated with flowers. The information on the wrapper tells me that the toilet paper is 3ply and is enriched with a gentle chamomile balm to give a hint of freshness. The wrapper carries a warning to keep the wrapper away from babies and children in case of suffocation. The rolls are quite large in comparison to my usual toilet paper, each roll has an average of 160 perforated sheets. The actual paper feels good quality, it is soft and seems very strong. The paper is white in colour, has a diamond quilted effect and is decorated with rather twee white and yellow flowers. It is very pretty and complements our peach and white bathroom....not that I am terribly bothered by such things as a rule! As mentioned I bought this toilet paper on a special offer, I paid in the region of £1.75 for the 4 pack, I believe the usual price in Sainsbury's is £2.17, so it was quite extravagant compared to my usual 51p for 4 basic buy! ==**My Thoughts and Conclusion**== This is a good quality toilet tissue. The price is comparable to other top end of the market toilet rolls and it was quite amusing to have a decorated toilet roll in the bathroom, even if Mr Brittle did say, much to my grand-children's delight, that the flowers looked like fried eggs! The paper does its job and I won't go into details about how we use it, as I am sure our bathroom habits are no different to most peoples' and I doubt they hold any great interest to others! The paper is very absorbent and it is easy to tear off the roll. The roll fits very well on our toilet roll holder and I have found that the paper lasts quite a long time. I cannot say that I actually noticed any hint of Chamomile balm or freshness when using this toilet tissue, it just did the job for which it is intended! My main bug bear with this product is the thickness of the paper. It is fine in normal use and indeed being 3ply, it is much thicker than my economy brands. The problem I found was that as we have an energy saving flush system to our loo, this paper does not always flush away first time when using the water saving flush. I wouldn't say that we are extravagant or excessive in the quantity of toilet paper we use, but the sheer density of this toilet tissue does make it harder than our usual brands to flush away. I feel it rather defeats the objective of having the water saving flush system if you are having to always use the 'full flush' simply to get rid of the paper. We are on a water meter and I do try to be sensible with our water consumption, so this really irritated me. That said, this is a decent product, if money were no object, I would consider buying this more often, but given my current budget, it is back to economy loo rolls for us; and I am still of the opinion that it is wasteful to spend more than you have to on a basic household staple like loo rolls! I am rating Regina Chamomile toilet tissue with 3*. Thank you for reading. ©brittle1906 January 2011 N.B. My reviews may be found on other sites under the same user name. Read the complete review |
