Tesco Value Straws
by bluebell190
decided to whiten my teeth a couple of weeks ago and it takes 14 days in total to bleach them. My dentist recommended that I don't drink black tea/coffee for a couple of hours after removing the mouth guards as this could stain my teeth straight after bleaching. I love a cup of tea first thing in the morning, which is when I take the ... mouth guards out. I was quite paranoid at drinking my tea and coffee at all whilst bleaching my teeth, so I picked up these straws and decided to drink everything through a straw for a couple of weeks whilst I was bleaching my teeth, even my tea and coffee!
I picked up a couple of packs of these value straws in Tescos, and they cost me 20p for a pack of 50. They come in a clear plastic packet, very simple packaging. At the bottom of the pack is a flap which you open to get the straws out and you can reseal it again to keep them all in the packet without them falling out. They are all white straws which are around 25cm's long, with different colour stripes down them, you get red, yellow, green and blue straws.
These straws are not the best quality, they are very thin tubes, which can be bent really easily, they are not very strong or sturdy. They don't have a bendy end either which I find much easier to use with other straws. They are just really simple and basic straws, although they have never split, and I have never had any problem with them, they just don't feel nice to drink from, in my opinion.
I did use the packs up that I bought, but I then purchased a slightly more expensive pack of straws which were much better to drink from. I wouldn't buy these straws again, even if they are only 20p for 50, they really are so cheap, but it is not expensive to buy better straws either! These straws look cheap, feel poor quality and I wouldn't recommend them if you use straws often! Read the complete review |

Tesco Everyday Value Dishcloths
by Drewster_Rooster
When it comes to washing the pots I fail to see the logic in spending pounds and pounds on a cloth when there are suitable items available at a fraction of the price. Tesco offer a range of 'value' products designed for use around the house and whilst some are barely fit for purpose (bin bags for example - useless) others, like their ... own dishcloths are perfectly adequate for the job they're designed to do.
For 75p you get a pack of 5 dishcloths, they don't come in fancy packaging and they're certainly nothing to get excited about but at 15p each they offer something that can easily cope with the removal of everyday food debris that might be stuck to a plate. They're not the biggest dishcloths available but they scrunch up well and offer enough surface area to be useful, used in conjunction with a good washing up liquid and hot water they clean crockery and cutlery without any problems and are thick enough to withstand a fair few uses before they develop any holes or fraying edges. It's simply not worth keeping them in tip-top condition and I never bother to bleach mine or lovingly take care of them because for 15p I don't feel as if I have to try to extend their life beyond a week or so's worth of washing up and a replacement is always available to hand.
Each dishcloth is white in colour, made from a yarn material and is relatively soft to the touch. They're basic yet efficient and I've yet to encounter any problems whilst using one. They clean any pot or pan that I put them against and are fine to use for wiping my kitchen down when I've had a spray around with an acti-bacterial cleaner. They are perhaps a little smaller than other more-expensive dishcloths but the savings that Tesco offer in buying these allow me to disregard their size as that doesn't bother me at all, they are fit for purpose and offer a no-frills way of cleaning without having a major expense. I use mine in both my kitchen and bathroom, the material used is certainly soft enough to clean without scuffing any surface it may come in contact with and once one has reached the end of its usefulness it's easy enough to throw away and get another one out of the no-nonsense pack.
There aren't many things that you can buy for your home that costs very little and still has a useful purpose but these Value dishcloths are the exception to the rule and I've been buying them for a good few years without noticing a decline in their quality. Admittedly they don't last for weeks each but even so I wouldn't say they were a false economy as other dishcloth brands deteriorate over time and a product such as this needs to be renewed regularly otherwise it just becomes a haven for germs and bacteria.
Other than their smaller size there's nothing to criticise with this value product from Tesco so from me they get a 4 star rating here along with my recommendation. For 75p per pack they're definitely worth taking a chance on if you're looking at making savings during a weekly food or grocery shop and are available both online and instore at Tesco on the homeware aisle.

Tesco Value Fabric Conditioner
by basketofbuttons
I buy a lot of everyday household products from my Tesco store and one of these things has been their own brand of fabric conditioner for my laundry. I paid only 90p for a huge plastic two litre sized bottle a few weeks back, just to see if it was any good. I normally buy Lenor Summer Breeze fabric conditioner or Comfort, but as I buy ... a lot of Tesco's own brand products anyway, it suddenly struck me that I hadn't tried their Everyday Value Fabric Conditioner. I must admit, at only 90p for two litres, it was the price that really attracted me, initially.
I do a lot of washing our house, despite their only being the three of use. I have no 'set' laundry days, but just do the washing as and when the basket fills up. I've used this fabric conditioner now about seven times and to be honest, it's okay but it's certainly not as good as I'd hoped.
Firstly, I find that I have to use a lot of this in order to reap any benefits in terms of freshness or softness. I normally use one of the concentrated fabric conditioners so I was quite taken aback I suppose, to discover just how very runny and thin this fabric conditioner was, the first time I used it.
This fabric conditioner comes in a fully recyclable plastic bottle and the colour of the conditioner itself is sort of like an off white. It's nowhere near as strong in fragrance as my usual Lenor or Comfort and as the top of this bottle is also the way in which you are meant to measure the amount of liquid you put into the machine, I started off by using two capfuls only. I soon found that this just wasn't anywhere near enough and now I've doubled that up to four capfuls. When you look at it like this, it suddenly becomes far less cost effective as I have to use more to achieve decent results.
This fabric conditioner doesn't really soften my clothes anywhere near as much as I'm used to. The smell doesn't last as long either and I notice it especially on my towels as they feel quite rough in texture now and not as 'bouncy' and soft as they usually are. I have noticed no adverse effects on anyone's skin in our house, so I'm guessing it must be fairly gentle but the quality is poor and just not worth it really, on the whole.
I much prefer to pay the extra ad have a decent bottle of fabric conditioner which I know is going to work well. I'm not overly impressed with this, sorry Tesco, and I only give it two out of five stars. Read the complete review |
