Original Zippo Deluxe Hand Warmer
by flyingdutchwoman Wow! It's all I can say. I bought my hand warmer on a bit of a whim really, but it has genuinely revolutionized my life! (Bear with me.) I heard about a friend who had one of these beauties! I randomly decided to get one, one day and am so pleased I did. The hand warmer uses a small catalytic burner and some lighter ... fluid, to run for up to 12 hours. (Although I have had mine running for may more.) It just glows away all day long, in your pocket and radiates a warmth, throughout your body. It means that cold winter days are no longer a problem. The reason I feel my hand warmer has helped me so much, is due to the fact I have a permanently dislocated hip. It means that in cold/damp weather, it is absolute agony to move around, or just function normally. Buy having this little gadget in my pocket up against my hip, it radiates a pain relieving glowing heat, which helps with easing my hip into working well. The warmer is primarily a simple idea. The only part that needs replacing on occasion is the little catalytic burner, however these can be sourced online fairly inexpensively. It also uses the liquid lighter fluid and so it is probably a good idea to have a spare burner or 2 and some spare fuel, so you don't end up with just a paper weight when you might need the warmth of this wonderful thing the most! WARNING: As with any product that uses fire/embers, please use responsibly and don't use in bed/in tents or be silly with it etc... I accept no responsibility if you use it inappropriately and you end up hurting yourself. Please read and follow the instructions! Read the complete review |

Zippo Lighter Fluid
by newby2 ==Zippo Lighter Fluid== There are several good reasons why I always have a can of this Zippo lighter fluid in the cupboard at home and I must say that I do use the fluid on a fairly regular basis. Firstly being a smoker (when I'm not pregnant) means that we have a few fancy lighters that need filling up with this type of ... fuel. These lighters never leave the house because they are far too nice and too expensive to go and loose like we do so many others. The second reason would be because I collect stamps (believe it or not) and to actually identify some of the older stamps you need to use a fluid such as this to soak the stamp with in order for the water mark to be shown on the back of the stamp. I am not sure if there is a different fluid that is specialised for this task but I always use this lighter fluid so I can use it for multiple purposes and it always seems to do this job well (just a good idea not to smoke whilst trying to identify expensive older stamps!) The third and final use I find for a tin can of this lighter fluid is by far the most dangerous and totally not advised but hey I still do it when I need to. I find that often if the BBQ is not lighting well enough by using the little white blocks we often buy or indeed the new lighter gel which we gave a go recently then a good squirt of this lighter fluid does do the job to lighting the flames and making the coal heat quicker. For a mere £1.59p from my local newsagents this little can of 125ml does seem to last a fairly good while. I guess the lack of BBQs this year has helped and of course the lack of smoking due to being pregnant so therefore we still have more or less a half full bottle in the cupboard. It keeps well though so no rush and it is pretty safe in the cupboard far away from any flames or heat sources. The bottle itself is made of tin so there is no real chance of any leakages unless something especially sharp were to pierce it. I find when I need to use it the nozzle on the bottle is q little tricky to pull up as this is a plastic point which moves from a laying flat position to an upright one in order to let the fluid flow. I will often get a sharp knife and pull the nozzle into position which I find the quickest and easiest thing to do. All in all I can't fault this multipurpose can of Zippo Lighter fluid. I can't say that it would be any different from a cheaper brand but to be fair it is the only one that my local newsagent/tobacconist stock and I haven't seen any other brand available apart from the Swan branded one which I would think would be around the same sort of price. I think this product is worthy of a top score of 5 out of 5 stars and an exceptionally high recommendation. I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you Many thanks for taking the time to read. Read the complete review |

Zippo Genuine Wick
by superness11 The zippo lighter is a cult lighter. They are collected the world over by those that smoke and those that don't. Of course those that smoke tend to like them the most. They are part of the legacy of many families and handed down from generations. The simple design of the Zippo lighters ensures that there is always fire even in the ... windiest weather. A Zippo lighter is a sound investment and should last you many, many years as long as you look after it. The mechanics of the device will be sound for a long time, however the flints, wick and fuel will tend to need replacing. After a while the wick will burn away after use. I tend to keep cutting off the burnt bits and slowly pulling the wick further up. At some point through, there will not be enough of the wick left to cut and you will need to replace it. I would only ever use a Zippo replacement wick in my device. It is reliable, it is strong and it is proven to last the longest. It is always best using Zippo approved materials, just in case anything does go wrong with the lighter, it does not invalidate the Zippo lifetime guarantee. The Zippo wick replacement will cost around 99p, so it is really very cheap. The wick is standardised to fit any sized Zippo and is 4.5 inches long. *How to change the wick* Remove the insert from the body or shell of the Zippo (by gripping the bottom of the lighter and on either side of the chimney and pulling apart) as if you were going to re-fuel it Unscrew the flint spring found on the bottom of the insert, but be careful because since it is spring-loaded it might fall out of your hand when it is unscrewed. If the flint spring screw is too tight to unscrew by hand, use a small flat screwdriver to loosen it first. You can also use the top lid of your lighter to do this as well. Put the flint spring into the empty shell of the Zippo. Tip out the flint from the bottom of the insert into the empty shell of the Zippo for safekeeping. If it does not fall right out, give it a gentle tap and it should fall Remove the felt pad and any spare flints (if you keep spares between the felt and the cotton wadding) and set those too in the Zippo shell. Set the Zippo shell aside. Using the tweezers or needle-nose pliers, pull out the cotton wadding one piece at a time. You'll notice that it is not all one big wad of cotton but many small overlapping wads. As you set them aside, lay them in more or less the same order or configuration as they were inside the insert. (this will be helpful later). Insert the new Zippo Wick into the wick hole by way of the chimney. Pull it through so that there is only as much wick in the chimney as will reach the top of the chimney. Using your pliers, tweezers, or little finger, bend the wick within the insert so that it won't fall out through the hole as you work. Begin to replace the cotton wadding in reverse order than you pulled it out. The pieces each should have some shape that you can fit together like a puzzle. As you replace the cotton, make sure to bend and weave the wick through and between pieces of the cotton wadding. You should run out of length of wick before you run out of cotton. Replace the felt pad (along with any flints that belong beneath it). Replace the flint. Insert and screw the flint spring until it won't turn any more. There is no need to screw too tightly as long as it does screw in all the way so that the lighter will close properly. Trim the excess wick so that it is level with the chimney. If you are struggling to replace the wick then you can always watch the video on the website wikihow. This shows someone completing all the steps so you can watch. It is not as complicated as it sounds but it needs to be done right. .. Read the complete review |
